Trump's Theory about the Plane Crash

Just watched his press conference in absolute disbelief. He's just blamed the air traffic controllers as apparently under the Biden administration they recruited people into the role who weren't intellectually capable. He actually blames diversity criteria and basically box ticking.... 'hiring people with severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities' - that's a direct quote.

As someone with ASD, anxiety and depression who works in a high level, highly skilled role, I am angry on behalf of anyone like me.

The man is a dangerous liar.

I think he’s right. We should not be hiring people in the name of diversity criteria. We should be hiring the best and most capable person for the job, regardless of sex, race etc.

The problem is that inherent race and gender bias means that the people who get hired are male and white. The whole point of diversity equality initiatives to get the best people by trying to overcome these biases.
(See trump.as an example of a white man who isn't the best for the job)

The way you're talking is as if you think white males are always the best people and women and minorities are only hired to be woke

She has difficulty getting her point across because her point is pure bullshite

Sure, I really hope it is.

My point is that this is where he got it from.

Kingsleadhat · 30/01/2025 20:39

It takes five years to train an air traffic controller. Wasn't he in charge five years ago?

Diversity hiring should've never happened. It's correct to question to what extent the issue of not hiring because of merit or skill had, if any.

Not this shit again

Trump is an absolute disgrace. Trying to score points by capitalising on the deaths of these people. He just doesn't know when to pipe down.

Neither do some folk on here.

I already posted a link, to a news story, that reported on the thing he is talking about, a year ago. Other people have posted other links stating the same issue.

Unless you think I went back in time and created a fake website predicting that this would be needed some time in the future, I am failing to see what you are trying to do here.

OMG!!!

Fact check!!!!

YES. On their website they were saying that they were specifically wanting to recruit people from more diverse backgrounds/with disabilities to create a more diverse workforce.

BUT.

NOT specifically to pilot/air control jobs. There are many roles within FAA.
AND candidates still needed to meet the necessary requirements.
AND it was on their website right through the orange toddlers first term. NOT just the Obama and Biden administration.

He is talking bollocks as usual. He is also showing zero respect for the victims. He’s jumping the gun before an investigation or enquiry. He’s using this tragedy to his own ends. He’s showing zero intelligence, compassion or integrity. The man is an utter disgrace.

Hire based on skill and then there would be nothing to question around that aspect.

DEI hiring isn’t not hiring due to merit or skill. It’s sometimes giving someone from a minority who meets all the requirements for the job a break. Or do you think the white male is always the best person for the job?

vandel · 30/01/2025 20:41

@DancingFerret
Terrorism? Who knows? We discussed that theory today; someone said for that to be the case, they have to have found three volunteers for a suicide mission, so it was unlikely...and someone else pointed out the pilots involved in 9/11 were effectively volunteers.

It would only take one crew member though, with a mission to down an aircraft and the heli with it. Overpower your co pilots somehow? They were in training so not experienced aviators yet so it may just have been inexperience in the end. Awful tragedy anyway, not helped in any way by the Trump Trumpet. Idiot narcissist that he is.

As I have said, people were asking where he got it from, and my point is to say 'this is where he got it from'.

timeforachange999 · 30/01/2025 20:42

I think it would be better if all these visually impaired people with mental illnesses didn’t work and claimed disability benefits instead. Oh wait

They do. But you understand sometimes several people have the skills, especially for competitive jobs? And that it would be fair to not always give it to the white guy in that situation?

If a woman gets hired for a job, is it because she's a woman or because she's the best for the job?

I bet there are many people who assume that because the person who got the job is not a white male, then they got hired because of DEI and not because they were the best qualified candidate.

What do you mean a break? What a patronising way to think.

No I don't think that because as I've said, it's about skill.

To clarify because for some reason it's needed - it is not me who's obsessed with pigeonholing people, and that's my whole point.

FumingTRex · 30/01/2025 20:46

All the evidence is pointing towards the helicopter being the issue, and military helicopters are not controlled by ATC according to reports in the news, so there is no indication ATC was at fault let alone that it was due to diversity policies FFS

Hire based on skill and then there would be nothing to question around that aspect.

Diversity hiring means you have multiple people who all meet the criteria and have the skill and the qualifications and not always hiring the white male. Why do people not get this?

I mean, if 6 people are more than capable for the job and 5 are white males that the one woman might be given the chance to- she’s probably already got through several layers of discrimination by proving she’s better anyway.

Do you think the white male is always the best for the job? That’s a bit more than patronising.

Tell me about it!! It’s a total (possibly deliberate) misrepresentation or misunderstanding. I don’t understand what people don’t understand. It’s not hiring someone with a disability who can’t actually do the job. That would be stupid! The whole point is that they get to the ‘appointable’ stage because they can.

Mrsdyna · 30/01/2025 20:48

No and I never said that, so stop pathetically baiting.

Because white men get all the advantages. I think you may have a lot of internalised misogyny if you think the man is always better

Bouledeneige · 30/01/2025 20:49

Next he'll be saying the helicopter pilot was a blind one legged person who was intellectually challenged. It's disgraceful.

notimagain · 30/01/2025 20:49

@vandel

They were in training so not experienced aviators yet so it may just have been inexperience in the end

“training flights” (which is how this flight has been described) can take place at any point in a pilot’s career, a lot depends what the training is for. Given the helicopter involved in the accident was an advanced type and also it’s role I certainly wouldn’t be thinking the pilots were wet behind the ears newbies.

For info the last training flight I did, during a type conversion, I’d been flying for well over thirty years and had around twenty thousand hours in the log book….

Well, it certainly doesn’t make me think they should be hired for any important jobs. It really isn’t rocket science!

You did though. You said that it’s not ‘fair’ to give non-white, non-males a chance if they are equally as qualified as the white male (despite having faced prejudice to get where they are).
It’s not me that’s pathetic, incidentally
