Trump's Theory about the Plane Crash

NameChangedForThis1985 · 30/01/2025 17:05

Just watched his press conference in absolute disbelief. He's just blamed the air traffic controllers as apparently under the Biden administration they recruited people into the role who weren't intellectually capable. He actually blames diversity criteria and basically box ticking.... 'hiring people with severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities' - that's a direct quote.

As someone with ASD, anxiety and depression who works in a high level, highly skilled role, I am angry on behalf of anyone like me.

The man is a dangerous liar.

Remember the case of the Swiss air traffic controller who was killed by the father who lost his entire family in the Überlingen mid-air collision?

I despise Trump, but air traffic controller is not a job for anyone with mental health issues. Sorry. The consequences of any mistake are just too catastrophic.

He made up a load of self serving bollocks, as usual. And the gullible believe it

Ok sure. If you say so.

I do. Care to prove me wrong?
or are you unable to?

Trump's Theory about the Plane Crash
DancingFerret · 30/01/2025 20:25

I'm an ATC. I've not listened to Trump's views on where blame lies for this awful crash, but I have just read a report which says he stated the military aircraft did "the opposite of what it was told". My understanding is the controller gave a warning to the pilot of the military craft asking if they'd seen the CRJ (Bombardier jet), and not an instruction - so on that point alone Trump is wrong.

Terrorism? Who knows? We discussed that theory today; someone said for that to be the case, they have to have found three volunteers for a suicide mission, so it was unlikely...and someone else pointed out the pilots involved in 9/11 were effectively volunteers.

ChristmasFluff · 30/01/2025 20:26

When I worked with people with severe learning disabilities, one of them worked in a hospital. He was not a surgeon, he cleaned floors. I suspect the FAA is giving some people with severe intellectual disabillities a chance to be cleaners or similar, rather than ATCs or pilots.

AwardGiselePelicotTheNobelPeacePrize · 30/01/2025 20:26

DEI policies means not binning a cv because it is from LaShawn rather than Madison. Some people seem to think it means letting guide dogs fly planes.

viques · 30/01/2025 20:27

He did exactly the same over the California fires. Leapt in heavy blaming Californias government , but not a word about sympathy or support for the people who had lost all their possessions, their homes, their livelihoods . Evil bastard, the real problem is it will be hard to spot when his senility kicks in because he has always rambled and gone off at random tangents.

I read somewhere that during his first presidency it was widely rumoured that the secret briefcase holding all the nuclear codes was kept at some distance away from him because he was , sorry is, so unpredictable and irrational. It must be impossible to work constructively with such an idiot.

YourHappyJadeEagle · 30/01/2025 20:27

When he’s slinging these insults around he really needs to look closer to home, much closer. The man has no filter, how on earth did anyone vote for him.

I already posted a link, to a news story, that reported on the thing he is talking about, a year ago. Other people have posted other links stating the same issue.

Unless you think I went back in time and created a fake website predicting that this would be needed some time in the future, I am failing to see what you are trying to do here.

MellersSmellers · 30/01/2025 20:30

What a complete twat.
The accident investigation hasn't probably formally begun yet, yet he knows the answer already.
Of course the FAA only employ people as air traffic control once they have passed very, very vigorous tests incl psychiatric tests. He is a complete a*hole to suggest otherwise.
His behaviour today has been supremely un- presidential.

@alisondonut I am going to try and do this in words of one syllable. The FAA has lots of jobs. Not all FAA jobs are pilots. Some FAA jobs are OK for people with bad eyes. Those jobs are not pilot jobs. Pilots still need good eyes.

Crikeyalmighty · 30/01/2025 20:31

It may be that a bit more diversity was encouraged in terms of sex, race, age, certain physical facilities, etc - I doubt very much though that everyone and his mother was now getting the job- it's always been a job with stiff competition and very very specific tests - This is incredibly low of him given that he has no idea what caused this

Thatissimplyuntrue · 30/01/2025 20:34

AlisonDonut · 30/01/2025 19:22

They were recruiting specifically to hit targets for those with visual impairments. That's why people were up in arms.

It was a year ago, the info is still out there if you care to look.

If you think it didn't happen then there will be no issue then. So all sorted.

NOT specifically to air control roles. Misinformation.

The American people chose trump, so yes...

Remember 75 million of us didn't vote for him.

AzurePanda · 30/01/2025 20:25

It has been fairly widely reported on

  1. Fox news and the New York Post? Really?
  2. It doesn't say what roles this covers - the FAA doesn't just recruit ATCs. They will also have HR, Admin, Cleaners, Data Analysts - all roles that can be done by people with disabilities.

Nope, not good enough.

SpidersAreShitheads · 30/01/2025 20:35

Honestly, every time I think we've reached the bottom, I discover there's a whole new depth of shit-talking that Trump and his fanbase can descend to.

The idea that the FAA has been recruiting blind or visually impaired pilots is genuinely hilarious. I can't quite wrap my head around the fact that people actually believe this nonsense.

So to be clear:

An FAA DEI drive doesn't mean just pilots - their website makes it clear that it also involves admin, non-critical jobs.

Visually impaired also covers those with glasses - and only approves them for hire if their corrected vision is as good as someone who doesn't need glasses.

The FAA have admitted they have a DEI focus - but this is in ADDITION to the rigorous requirements for the job. So let's say they have five candidates that all meet the high standards, one of those might have DEI characteristics so may be hired. That's a DEI hire. But they're only hired because they already meet the requirements of the job. They're not hiring John from the mailroom to fly planes, just because he's only got one leg.

Also, don't you think that perhaps there would be planes crashing all over the place in the US if unqualified, unsuitable DEI hires were running air traffic control?!

And aside from all of this nonsense, Trump had absolutely no place trying to score political points out of people's grief, especially when the deaths have literally just happened. As it stands, there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that DEI had anything to do with the crash. Trump suggesting that it was the cause is an irresponsible, morally repugnant thing to say.

The man is a fucking vulture.

Amaranthasweetandfair · 30/01/2025 20:35

@AlisonDonut you said you saw an advert for visually impaired pilots and air traffic controllers. But the advert referred to in the link you posted is not actually an advert for visually impaired pilots and air traffic controllers. I think this is where the difficulty in getting your point across stems from.

Lonelycrab · 30/01/2025 20:37

Trump really is an utter piece of shit.

This is the man who thought a valid response to covid was to drink bleach, and now he’s wading in on this with his stupid opinion while the poor relatives of those killed are still in shock.

Attempting to make political capital at a time like this. Honestly, anyone who voted for this deranged idiot I hope you’re hanging your head in shame. To think we’ve got four more years of having to listen to this chump is depressing beyond belief.

I have opened all links. None refer to pilots or ATC’s being recruited with partial sight or intellectual disabilities.

Yes hence saying that I didn't screenshot it, otherwise I'd have just posted that.

AwardGiselePelicotTheNobelPeacePrize · 30/01/2025 20:38

She has difficulty getting her point across because her point is pure bullshite

Mrsdyna · 30/01/2025 20:38

Diversity hiring should've never happened. It's correct to question to what extent the issue of not hiring because of merit or skill had, if any.

JimHalpertsWife · 30/01/2025 20:38

Lilifer · 30/01/2025 17:07

Do you think people with "severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities" should be air traffic controllers?

You were the first to reply to the OP, why quote the whole thing again?
