My primary school children have not been at school because they were ill then I was to ill to take them. The school do know this and were understanding.

I haven't left my house since new year . And I feel sort of scared of going out and starting life again. I feel like I just want to stay in. I don't want the hassle of public transport. The business of everything.

I felt a bit like that after Covid. Daft really because I used to have an international job and travelling was my norm.

After covid I had to travel to Wales for work, and once I'd taken a deep breath and got back on the M4 I felt better, not so hemmed in. Confidence came back quite quickly.

Take a deep breath and do it. Your dcs need to go to school. And you'll benefit from a change of scene.

Your right it wasn't as bad as bad as i thought. I done everything slow no rushing about etc. I was meant to go to the dentist tomorrow but I don't feel up for that just now. Now I have actually got through the day I do feel better about it.

Kids were pleased to be back to.

your kids were off because you couldn't take them and school were ok with it? For a whole month?

I'm surprised school were ok with it. My son was off for a week with a virus. They came round to check in (probably to make sure I was being truthful). When they saw him covered in a viral rash they were fine and left some picture books with us. 3 weeks is a long time.

Why did you try and shit stir on my other thread about my son. When it didn't work you came here instead . Very sad

Do you live very far from the school? We are coming up to the end of term and that is a huge amount of time off.

You must also be going slightly mental at having kids home for this long.

I'm afraid I'm one of those people who drag themselves up and take my DD to school. A few years back I was awfully unwell and ended up in hospital for a week - immediately before that I'd been catching the bus to nursery. Easier to be ill without a child around!

Hope you're all feeling better now. Don't be afraid to go out, I suspect you'll feel better for it.

Completelyjo · 30/01/2025 08:09

If my kids had been off school for 3 weeks I would be more concerned about getting them back than moaning about the hassle of public transport.

I had flu and pneumonia on top . I was really ill. Its ok saying i would drag myself out get the kids to school but I could barely breath. I was waking in the night fighting for breath. I couldn't walk because of the breathing legs were shaking and giving way. I couldn't talk in a fall sentence because I couldn't catch my breath .

I was completely honest with the school

It was attendance and safe guarding I spoke to.

Why could your almost 18 year old not help get the younger ones to school if you were so ill? Seems like there were many solutions that didn’t involve not sending them.

febmayjune87 · 30/01/2025 08:19

Honestly it's not good enough. Surely a taxi or another school parent would have helped in an emergency.

My son missed a month of school last year due to him being seriously ill. It took forever for him to catch up. It caused a lot of extra work for the teachers and support staff but it could. It be helped. You need to get something on place to stop this happening again

It doesn't sound like you're doing the best you can for your children honestly. Get them into school any way you can from now on. Taxi, friends, your nearly adult son. There's always options.
