Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

I like a comfy chair when dining out (mid 40s)

Oh yes. I can't go to cafes with totally uncomfortable wooden chairs.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/01/2025 19:30

Love crochet and knitting.
Love doing a crossword on holiday.

whaddayawannado · 16/01/2025 19:32

@TaylorGuitar I'm with you on the proper G&T - it's got to be Gordon's. All these new ones just aren't proper gin.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/01/2025 19:26

@fetchacloth @StopTalkingSoMuch Me too - apart from the ice skating -I still work in rock music

I'm 63 and would add

I love Skechers
Rieker boots ( multiple pairs)
M&S and Waitrose food shopping but do love a good farm shop and we have lots within 10 miles of where I live
Love a comfy dining chair in restaurants
I Like velvet-chairs, tops, chokers - you name it

I live in Skechers and shop at M&S too 😎

Pi*s pads for bladder weakness, dont feel safe without them.
Early nights, 10 is a late one for me, 9 is the norm.
A little nap in the afternoon.
Peace and quiet
Audio Books in bed.

ShinyPebble32 · 16/01/2025 19:33

The exquisite pleasure of putting on a cardigan over a jumper when you feel a bit chilly!
Also really getting into fancy soaps at the moment.

Mandatoryamanda · 16/01/2025 19:33

I'm early 40s. DP has long mocked my old lady tendencies. He said my top 3 are:-

  1. 'Granny sandals' (his words, not mine)
  2. My taste in nightdresses (i.e. nowt sexy)
  3. NT and RHS membership

I loooooove parmaviolet sweets.

Me too! And Violet Creams.

TheOnlyMrsW · 16/01/2025 19:34

48 and for my last birthday I asked for an "old lady pillow" which I use every day (the V-shaped ones for being propped up in bed), love, sherry and a trip to a garden centre - only to look at the pretty things not to actually buy anything I can kill any plant off within 2 weeks!!! Also very fond of my electric blanket and heated throw as we live in the frozen East Lancs/Pennine border and anything that smells of lavender since we had a huge one in the garden when I was small.
Conversely like @StopTalkingSoMuch I also love rock music, my faves are Those Damn Crows and Thunder, saw Linkin Park at their last ever gig, spend summers at festivals and am so happy now that I can afford Docs so I straddle more than one camp 😊🤘. It does take rather longer to recover nowadays, the time when I could do back to back gigs at night and work the next day are long gone!!!!!

Mandatoryamanda · 16/01/2025 19:34

Oh and my fondness for classic fm (otherwise I'm listening to amyl and the sniffers.......)

I like a comfy chair when dining out (mid 40s)

Oh yes definitely,I can’t be sitting on hard chairs even though I don’t even have a problem with my back

Also, can’t really be bothered with stiletto heels (or any other type of heels) anymore except for a special occasion, I never thought I would get to that stage but it did happen over the pandemic, only want flats now, 49F

Yellowpingu · 16/01/2025 19:35

I have steel grey hair, bifocal glasses, hearing aids and walk with sticks. I’m 50! 🫣

Kendodd · 16/01/2025 19:35

I'll see your footspa and raise you a winceyette nightdress.

godmum56 · 16/01/2025 19:35

I collect and use vintage jugs, vases and bowls. I have had wide feet and very high arches all my life so have skipped straight past Skechers to Cosyfeet and Crocs. Crocs healed my plantar fasciitis. I love to garden and enjoy a real gardening program, never miss the Chelsea coverage and sit there with pen and paper to make notes although more and more its "got that" "can't grow that here" and also Love Your Weekend especially the alcohol bit. Also a fan of Jame's Martins Saturday show. I collect walking sticks and use some of them when my dodgy knee or dodgy back play up...and yes always got a stash of ibuprofen gel and tablet ibuprofen and paracetamol in the house. Love a bit of crafting too. Oh the glasses.....I have got two prescription pairs for driving, Transitions and a really dark tint pair for when the sun is strong and low on winter days, a pair for watching telly in, a collection of pairs of closework glasses for sewing and reading labels. My telly watching ones are even on a chain so I don't lose them.

Echobelly · 16/01/2025 19:21

I'd better get into Sketchers. I have a bad hip and can currently get shoes on though my bad side is a pain but I'm going to need those ones you can step into before too long.

I would definitely recommend the Skechers slip ins, you can literally step into them and nudge them off without bending down.
I slipped a disc a few months ago and these Skechers were a lifesaver.

Gwenhwyfar · 16/01/2025 19:36

"(the V-shaped ones for being propped up in bed"

What are they for exactly?

ScarletWitchM · 16/01/2025 19:36

Badedas, heated throw blanket, crocheting, staying in on the weekend, naps in the daytime!

TheChosenTwo · 16/01/2025 19:36

Snowmanscarf · 16/01/2025 19:26

Use ‘best’ dinner set at Christmas (we started collecting set when married - Royal Doulton)

Have a tablecloth, not a runner, on my table

Brought sherry at Christmas (but was too ill to drink it)

Love a good garden centre

The mention of royal doulton has given me the idea that you’re hyacinth bouquet 😂 I didn’t know it was something that people had!!

I’m 40, my favourite old lady things are that I practically live under my heated blanket, it’s the best thing I ever bought. I love nothing more on a rainy weekend than doing a new jigsaw. I have a persistently niggling ankle and dodgy discs in my back. My favourite shoes are trainers (just anything flat!) because the ankle prevents anything more interesting 😂.

Ineedanewsofa · 16/01/2025 19:36

Early nights
Slippers
Good manners
nowhere too loud
Midsummer Murders

Thingamebobwotsit · 16/01/2025 19:37

Don't know if it really classes as an old lady thing but I have religiously watched Antiques Roadshow most Sundays since I was a tiddler. Mum used to iron to it, and now I do the same. Pavlov's dog reaction and habit more than enjoyment but it is a family ritual.

HopefulBeliever · 16/01/2025 19:38

Listening to Buddy Holly etc
A nice trip to a farm shop
Love a great afternoon nap
Recently changed to big knickers - so comfy
OXO cubes

Oh and my fondness for classic fm (otherwise I'm listening to amyl and the sniffers.......)

Love love love Classic fm. I have it on every day as I'm a mature student and its the only thing I can listen to while studying that doesn't overly distract me.

Someone else mentioned an RHS membership. Yep, got that ticked off (if you're a student it's only £10 a year! Bargain!), and a gardeners world subscription and I'm a member of the British Museum. I'm not even 41 yet 😂

Discombobble · 16/01/2025 19:38

Shinyandnew1 · 16/01/2025 18:48

I like a sherry! And a scarf as my neck gets cold.

Also,

Heated blanket
Wooly hat
Astral face cream

Not the Astral, but all the others!
