Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

I shall bore everyone by again waxing evangelically about the merits of the slip in making even cheap dresses hang nicely.

However I realised I’m getting on recently when I accidentally watched Monty Don on tv touring British gardens - with great interest and enjoyment, to my great astonishment.

I use badedas and fenjal every day in the bath and have it on repeat monthly delivery from Amazon

I get up between 4-5 am every day

I'm a napper

I don't watch any reality tv, ever. Or game shows. Or daytime tv at all.

Snap to all. Everyone laughs at my longtime Fenjal and Badedas habit but there seems to be a theme here!!

wriggleigglepiggle · 16/01/2025 19:49

Eyeliner and mascara on lower lashes. Think it’s just habit now. I tried without and have to admit I did look younger and fresher, but just can’t seem to give it up!

Oh god are we not supposed to do that? I do top and bottom, eyeliner and mascara. Fuck. Ill get my coat.

curiouscat1987 · 16/01/2025 19:51

I LOVE a glass of mead. I keep saying its about to become the next big thing, perhaps 2025 is the year I'll finally be vindicated 🙏

PGmicstand · 16/01/2025 19:51

I'm a strange mix of old lady and wannabe teen:

Downton Abbey
Sitting on the sofa with a blanket over my knees in the evening
Many cups of tea
Gin & tonic
Pottering in the garden
Love a wander around a garden centre or a bookshop
Gardener's world
Bake off

but also
Longstanding crush on rockstar
Love loud thrashy metal
Enjoy learning how to do things on the computer and develop my IT skills
Mad coloured hair
Hello kitty T-shirts

Nearing 60 with as little grace as I can muster.

HoraceCope · 16/01/2025 19:51

i like hearing the birds, and seeing them too

NordicwithTeen · 16/01/2025 19:52

cardibach · 16/01/2025 19:41

How? I haven’t owned a cheque book for at least 5 years, probably more (I’m 60 for reference).

Oh god, I fear I pissed off the window cleaner by doing this. He won't reply to my messages asking to do mine alongside my neighbours any more 😬I never had cash and he doesn't come on set days!

Starsandall · 16/01/2025 19:52

It’s got to be slippers and a heated blanket. I do hide the slippers from my younger man, pretending I’m cool. I’m 40’s.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/01/2025 19:53

My 26 year old son lovesM&Sfood , music from 60s and 70s, nice wine and good farm shops and young women who are pretty in a relatively unmade up way and drives a Volvo - he's got quite old/mature tastes for his age.

Fenellapitstop · 16/01/2025 19:54

I wear big pants and giant bras
NT member
Run a WI group
Bake
My doulton dinner service is for every day

I'm 49

VesperLind · 16/01/2025 19:54

Tutting.
Unnecessarily long and quite convoluted conversations with DH about whether or not to renew our membership of local stately home / garden type place. Weighing up the pros and cons and eventually deciding not to renew while giving ourselves another couple of weeks to think about it, while recognising that if we do decide to renew after this period of consideration we will have missed out on the early renewal discount.
Shoot.Me.Now. We’re 61.

whiteorchids44 · 16/01/2025 19:54

Early morning riser
Comfy chairs

Collection of vintage designer bags
Scarves, pearls, cardigans
Peace and quiet
Cosy towelling robe and slippers
Hot drink and a sit down
Heated blanket and cashmere socks
Cosy night in

LongDarkTeatime · 16/01/2025 19:55

Anyone else developed a cold head in bed?
I’m only 50 but … I wear a bed hat 😂
Tres sexy. Just call me Wee Willie Winkie 😂

Berlinlover · 16/01/2025 19:55

My favourite holiday destination is Madeira.

SushiWarrior · 16/01/2025 19:56

I’m 30, things that I love that could be considered ‘old’:

midsummer murders,
cadfael,
agatha Christie books and tv adaptations,
period dramas (loving north and south atm)
worthers originals,
history documentaries (Mary beard etc)
time team,
boiled hard sweets for a car journey,
Warm moccasin style slippers,
cardigans,
having a cake and stroll around a garden centre,
Visiting national trust properties,
sometimes partial to a national garden open day thing,
my heated blanket is always on my lap if I’m sat down,
Crocs/bikenstocks (I know they’re fashionable now but they don’t look good on me at all and I manage to make them look terrible)
a farm shop.

Omg, is he up for a date with my 24-year old daughter?

Neveranynamesleft · 16/01/2025 19:57

Bed socks are bliss.

I have found my people.

NotMeNoNo · 16/01/2025 19:57

Ohhhh I was born "old" and I am only mid 50s.
Knitting,
Sewing,
Embroidery
Love folk music
Camping and UK holidays
Any historical dramas
The GBBO
Radio 4
A nice cup of tea
Strictly
Secretary of the Women's Institute
Cats
Jumpers and blankets
Powder compacts
Real handkerchiefs

People are welcome to take or leave them. But I think I'll be relieved to get to the age where you don't get a funny look.

I also like motorbikes, doc martens, mountaineering, cycling, hipster coffee and loads of other things and those are not the preserve of the young.

LasagneLasagne · 16/01/2025 19:57

I recently purchased some heated gloves because my poor fingers were freezing, even with thermal gloves. They look ugly and bulky, but I don't care because they are AMAZING.

CuddleswithTiddles · 16/01/2025 19:58

Silk scarves.
Stuck in a rut with make up and hair style.
Buy adventurous cook books then make food my mother produced.
Can swiftly change between reading and long-distance specs…when I haven’t lost them.
Walk back into rooms to remember why I went in there originally.
“Ten items or less” at tills has me ranting “fewer”.
Have drawers full of wool I’ll never knit. There’s nothing wrong with my hearing😂…the problem is people mumbling.
I can’t resist Skechers, Indian food, Jam Shed Shiraz, fur lined pedicabs in London.
Age?
70.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 16/01/2025 19:58

I always wear slippers and a dressing gown around the house...love a camomile tea...a night out ends at 10pm...and nothing beats a goss with my aunts, grandma or MIL 😂just turned 30 but spiritually ahead of my time

E: forgot to add my new old lady obsession, cozy cashmere socks

I am loving the young 'auld ladies' on this thread. All the 20, 30, and 40 somethings who are loving the cosy and traditional!

I love this thread. 😆😍
