For the better, obviously.

Can be a thing, person, activity, place...anything really.

Mine is trig bagging. It's so much fun and gets you out there, to unexpected and unknown places.

What's yours?

Ours is eufy X10 Pro Omni Robot Vacuum Cleaner with mop. We got during the black Friday offers. It is the best thing we have bought in a long time.

We have the same one and feel the same way!

Tepid water in a sandwich bag for forested windows. Gently glide the bag of tepid water over the window, done in seconds no water

Just come here to say that Lidl has rice cookers and on offer £14.99, and as soon as I saw it I thought of you all

Just a regular large saucepan is great. Rinse and drain rice, same amount boiling water to rice. Once bubbling, turn down to medium, stick lid on. When water is all but gone, leave to steam in pan with lid. Fluff with fork.

Works every time, and eliminates need for a one use bulky appliance.

@Differentstarts could you please tell me about the roller again? I've gone back through the whole thread twice looking for your post, and all the backward scrolling has given me a headache 😂

My husband. He changed my whole life. He is loyal and kindhearted and his love language seems to be acts of service. I haven’t cooked since I had the kids and he loved a good tidy. Hands on dad. Funny and self deprecating. Very, very smart and hot.

So lovely!

Two things, my newly acquired NHS hearing aids and due to my hearing having, in the last 18 months worsened considerably; -75dB in both ears, (the qualifying hearing loss is -70dB or higher, in the better ear), I am now entitled to a concessionary disabled bus pass, feel like I've won the lottery.

minerva7 · 02/02/2025 21:01

Thanks @TheOccupier but I think she posted about a skin roller?
I just can't find her post. I'm sure I didn't imagine it 😂

I’ve just had new replacement hearing aids. I’m thrilled that they are Bluetooth and I can control them from my phone. My old ones were more basic. I can hear more with these.
I am intrigued about the bus pass! I had hoped for one aged 60 but the goalposts were moved.

@caramac04 can I ask are your bluetooth hearing aids prescribed by the NHS?

My dd is not getting with her NHS hearing aids - they hurt her ears. I was reading about Apple AirPods Pro 2 with hearing aid feature. Is that yours?

Same as on the older person's bus pass, 67 for me, over 5 1/2 years time. With regard to your hearing loss what is the decibel loss in your best ear? If it's -70dB or higher you should qualify, but different councils may have different rules.

Surrey council look like they require you to be in receipt of PIP as well, which is hideous, anyone with hearing loss of -70dB has very severe HL

"(b) is profoundly or severely deaf"

  • Audiologist's written report (we may require an audiogram showing 70+ dB hearing loss (HL) in both ears)
  • Receipt of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) with a minimum score of 8 points for the "communicating verbally" activity

My council East Sussex County Council:

Qualifying as profoundly or severely deaf
Guidance from the Department for Transport states that hearing loss is measured in decibels across the normal hearing spectrum, as dB HL (Hearing Level). Hearing loss is usually graded as follows:

  • 25-39 dB HL: mild, cannot hear whispers.
  • 40-69 dB HL: moderate, cannot hear conversational speech.
  • 70-94 dB HL: severe, cannot hear shouting.
  • More than 95 dB HL: profound, cannot hear sounds that would be painful for a hearing person to listen to.
You will be eligible if
  • your hearing loss is severe or profound, i.e. greater than 70 dB HL, in both ears
You will not be eligible
  • your hearing loss is mild or moderate, i.e. 69 dB HL or less, in your better ear

I applied for my bus pass by email on the Tuesday and I received my bus pass on the Saturday of the same week. I just sent them my audiogram

Mine are, Phonak Bolero M70-M, I additionally downloaded the My Phonak app. Depending on your DD's hearing loss maybe Apple AirPods Pro 2 would work but usually prescription aids will always be better, the audiologist fine tunes them to the audiogram, mine did anyway. How long has your DD been using her hearing aids? There is a settling in period, I go back for a check up and any adjustments after 6 weeks. The first 2 weeks have been rather tricky tbh, itching, sensory overload and too much stimulus, my brain needs to adjust.

@tiger2691 can I ask the price roughly?

caramac04 · 03/02/2025 09:13

@Trixiefirecracker mine are Oticon hearing aids and I’d say this pair are more comfortable than my old Oticon hearing aids. Prior to hearing aids I struggled with ear pods and had bone conduction instead.
Mine are nhs prescribed

caramac04 · 03/02/2025 09:17

@Trixiefirecracker audiologist said the works within are the same as private hearing aids but the aesthetics are not quite as good as- the aids are a bit bigger. However it has saved me thousands of pounds.
I hope your daughter can become comfortable wearing aids as they can help to slow down further loss (mine is age related though) but to be able to hear properly is a joy.

My fourteen-year-old wrist injury has just flared up again.

Carrying pans across the kitchen to the sink to drain them isn't an option right now. Holding a pan in one hand whilst stirring it with the other isn't an option right now. Buttering toast isn't an option right now. Screwing a Huel mixer shut isn't an option right now. But I was able to make porridge with pumpkin seeds in it in my rice cooker, so I got to eat breakfast this morning.

I'd say that the difference between eating and going hungry is pretty life-changing.

@selffellatingouroborosofhate Have you seen the cooking baskets that will save you trying to drain boiling heavy pans? Can be used for anything you would normally boil such at potatoes, veg and pasta.

If you Google cooking basket lots come up 😄

Will those work with foodstuffs as small as rice?

HRTQueen · 04/02/2025 00:21

Good tip. I use it sometimes.

That looks like more chew-on than a rice cooker TBH.

Thank you for trying.
