For the better, obviously.

Can be a thing, person, activity, place...anything really.

Mine is trig bagging. It's so much fun and gets you out there, to unexpected and unknown places.

What's yours?

Vitamin D..

This time last year I was barely functional.. constantly exhausted, comfort eating, putting on weight.

I now feel like I'm back in my 20s, full of energy, I'm achieving 4x what I used to in a day and losing weight too.

Absolutely life changing and can't recommend it enough :-)

have you had your levels tested? you might be able to get prescription full RDI dose pills. made a huge difference for my fatigue and joint pain.

Air fryers (with paper liners ‘cos my teens are slobs)!

silicone liners are great. they wash brilliantly in the dishwasher, and because they're smooshy, they're easy to store.

My full length (fake copies but OK) oodies, which I am wearing over my clothes in the house.
Great for economising on heating.

Better than the onesies, which involve a lot of undressing every time you want a pee;
better than the fleece dressing gowns, which come open and have wider sleeves, up which the icy draught blows;
better than the backwards gown/blanket with sleeves, where you get a cold back when you stand up;
and better than the heated throw, which you can't actually wear round the house.

I am completely sold on this all enveloping, unglamorous garment, and I am WARM.

I've got a right selection of non branded ones. lighter, shorter ones for summer, heavier ones, and my favourite are the three ankle length ones. I live in them. they're so comfortable. I change into one as soon as I get home, and only change out of them for bed or leaving the house.

Which table top dishwashers do people recommend and how does the plumbing work is it complicated?

OhMaria2 · 12/01/2025 00:49

ArielManto43 · 11/01/2025 19:28

A heated airer. Amazing! How did I manage without one?

Also, kind of linked to the pan drawer thing, I use the carousel in my kitchen not for cleaning products (they go under the sink), but for tinned food, jars of pasta sauce etc. It's much easier trying to find a tin of tomatoes or a new bottle of brown sauce if you can just whizz everything around until you find it.

How hor do heated airers get? Would they be safe around my 3 year old?

Watch some videos on you tube.
Some have no plumbing, you fill with a jug and waste pipe into the sink

considering he's nearly 5, it's not really recent, but MY CAT.
Our landlady is very anti dog, and we're both dog people.
I have had cats growing up, among a huge menagerie of other pets.
as an adult (from pre teen) I've always had rats. wonderful little animals, but their lifespan was getting too much for me. so I decided, if we can't have a dog, we should get a cat, as they ARE allowed, and I just needed a pet that would last more than a few years to heal my heart.
and he's everything I hoped he would be, and more. he sleeps on my chest most nights, purring into my face. he adores his people. he's affectionate, and loves cuddles. and I just can't believe what a huge change having him has been in my life.

awww, that's lovely

he's just the most precious little soul.
my husband only told me after we got him (he wanted to make me happy) that he doesn't like cats. but that was after the two of them became absolute best friends, and you should hear the way he babytalks him. they adore each other.
apparently his only real experience was with his aunties cats, who were all bitey and scratchy

I've had that recently, someone being condescending in a meeting. How would you suggest wording a question to them in a private meeting?

Depending on a culture at your workplace but in general.

Hi/Dear CondenscendingPerson (swap for first name)

We had productive projects going on, so I would like to schedule a meeting about your observation and see how we can improve things.
Let me know if XY date works for you as I will be seeing (name of your line manager) later in a day.

Tnx
Yourname

Just think of all the fools in Asia with their rice cookers.

Picoloangel · 12/01/2025 07:56

Asking myself - “Will this be important a year from now?” has helped a lot with my anxiety
Buying a new floor cleaner-buffer for our highly polished kitchen floor
Cold water immersion
Sea Salt Janelle - like wearing a hug

This! I've just moved house and now have a pan drawer for the first time in my life!

I also bought slow cooker liners from Tesco during my recent trip to the UK - will be trying them out on Sunday!

Aren't they just unnecessary plastic?

Ooh things that def make my life easier or better which I've adopted in the last couple of years-

Tweezers with a built in light
Epilator instead of razor or waxing
Tinted body lotion/moisturiser
Doc marten boots (soft leather ones)
Trainers that fit my flat feet
Heated throw
Airfryer
Kindle unlimited and listening to books for free via Text-to-speach
Ear buds
Proper steam iron with water tank

But best by far is my indoor walking pad! I try to walk for an hour a day but it's too icy/cold in Scotland at the moment and very dark so I've been walking indoors instead. Not as great as outdoors but fab not to miss it 😄

I watch hiking videos on my treadmill. Harmen Hoek is my favourite.

I wonder if they make rice cookers

Simple Human also do a great dish drainer with draining spout and a corner shower unit that never rusts.

Confusednoodle1 · 12/01/2025 08:51

We have floor to ceiling tiles in both bathrooms and also huge mirrors right to the ceiling. I use a microfibre cloth on my flash mop (and cleaning product of choice) to clean the tiles, easy to reach and takes literally seconds, then similar for the mirror.

Hiya, yes, they get hot but not enough to burn. You can easily grip the bars without hurting yourself. The main danger for a three year old, I think, would be that mine strongly resembles a climbing frame with wheels, so from that perspective I think a three year old might find it a bit tempting to resist wrestling with.

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 12/01/2025 09:59

@CrowleyKitten wee ratties are the best. I've not had a pet rat for years for the same reason as you so I make do with feeding the outdoor ones. My neighbours will never find out 😂

I'm so pleased you've experienced the love of a cat, there's nothing like it ❤️

OMG! I would go mental if I discovered any of my neighbours were encouraging rats. I absolutely hate them and certainly the wild ones carry so much disease and cause so much damage to property. We once had a bill of thousands of £s because a rat crawled under the bonnet of the car via the wheel arch and ate through the power steering cables of the car.

I would totally report you to Environmental Health for doing this if you lived near me.

@Resisterance

I have had a flow headset for over a year now , the principle is that the pre-frontal cortex can be less active in people who are depressed and the headset uses a micro current to stimulate that area of the brain. You use it 5 times a week for 3 weeks then twice a week after this. There have been clinical trials and it is being used by the NHS in some areas. It runs via an app you install on your phone or tablet

Having done some checking i really think this could help my husband - he has advanced Parkinson's
thanks very much for posting this!

Lifting weights.
I went to a gym with a friend to try to feel stronger and more confident after recovering from cancer and now it’s part of my life that I would never want to change.
I'm still not super confident but feel so much stronger and happier just from someone telling me ‘you can do this’.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 12/01/2025 10:29

It's a bit lighter weight than a treadmill and can be moved around. Not geared for running but let's you get steps in. I prefer walking outside but struggling to manage at the moment so can jump ion the walking pad while I listen to a book or even watch a programme

I love by robot hoover. I am
intrigued by the robot hoover and mop. Has anyone got one that has actually lasted? Any recommendations?
