Help! Hairy lady chin out of control

Taytoface · 06/01/2025 13:19

I have peri mein chin hair growth. Was managing with regular plucking, but now it's out of fricking control. Waxing does nothing to my mofo whiskers.
Was thinking of getting a home later thing, but my hair is fairly light, apart from the odd jet black 2mm thick chin hairs.

What do you ladies use? Any reviews of the home laser kits for people with light red hair?

I am not very high maintenance, so would prefer something done infrequently but lasting.

i cannot stand the feel of my chin and am constantly worrying at it, which makes my skin come up in blotches. Really feeling very beautiful right now.

Thinking about a Lumea too.
At the moment it's an occasional wax then get the little
Buggers with the tweezers- usually in the car as it's the best light!

Christinglechristmas · 06/01/2025 17:19

Op I'm the same, managed by plucking and it's getting much worse and on my neck

justasking111 · 06/01/2025 17:30

Was recommended one of these by mumsnetters. Haven't looked back.

IPL machine. Game changer.

I am delighted to read you do this in the car too, it really is the best place. I am always gripped with fear that someone will see me tho!

I got a Phillips Lumea for the bastard chin and neck hair. I tried to count the hairs once and I had over 70 then gave up counting. It was really getting me down.

I used the Lumea for the first time and was supposed to stick to a treatment schedule but fell poorly with quite bad pneumonia and was not able to function for a few weeks so didn’t stick to the routine and the hairs came back after a few weeks but that was still an improvement on having to try and pluck/blade it off almost daily.

I’ve just restarted on the Lumea so hoping to use it properly this time.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 06/01/2025 18:04

I had IPL at a professional place and then bought a home machine to keep on top of it. But my hair was dark.

are you on HRT at all?

AgnesX · 06/01/2025 18:05

I thought that Lumea didn't work on light hair?

Does waxing work (without feeling bristles after)?

nonbinaryfinery · 06/01/2025 18:10

I just yank them out with tweezers daily. I used to use those mini facial wax strips but they hurt my skin so I stopped.

Perimenopause is a right cunt.

I also have really long hairs growing from my areola. I pulled out five yesterday and they were all long, like three inches long. I'm on HRT.

Bankholidayhelp · 06/01/2025 18:19

I have a similar one but it's something that you'd likely have to use on a daily basis. so not like waxing, threading etc. I use it for 'emergencies'
I've got an epilator that I use regularly to keep chin hair under control.

My worst fear is being in a nursing home at a bout 90 with a full beard because no one cares enough to get rid of the hair for me!

notprincehamlet · 06/01/2025 18:26

Find somewhere that does electrolysis - slower than laser-y things but permanent

unsync · 06/01/2025 18:34

If you can bear it, threading is good.

Taytoface · 06/01/2025 19:01

Thanks wims. I have my doubts that IPL will work. I have a lovely array of the feckers. Some are dark and thick, particularly satisfying to pluck. Some are light, thick and vv stubborn. An increasing number are light and thin but grow long and at a pronounced angle. They drive me mental as they come up under the skin, and then seemingly pop up about 1 cm long and difficult to pluck. I think with shaving I would be left with these fuckers. Then I also have the freakish ones. Ones that seem to appear out of nowhere and are more than 1cm long.

I think electrolysis might be the way to go, but no clue how to find a place that does it. What should I be looking for.

I am not in HRT, hairiness seems to be my only symptom

This made me chuckle. This is exactly how I feel - gripped with fear in case a neighbour sees me gurning into the overhead mirror 🤣 The grind is real. My chin hairs are like bloody tightened guitar strings!!

nopenotplaying · 06/01/2025 19:16

I always find one during a teams call and then can't concentrate on anything else but the wirey mf. As soon as the call ends I'm off to find tweezers 🤣

EveryDayisFriday · 06/01/2025 19:27

I shelled out for the Lumea a few years ago. All scary black face hairs are gone and most armpit hair, bar a few stragglers. I'm rubbish at layering often but I will do it every now and again. It has totally changed my life though, I had some awful black thick chin and cheek hair.

Edited

Yes I have the odd dark hair but read the laser can stimulate the light hair like peach fuzz so this puts me off using it on sides of face

I'm scared of shaving the hair on my face to use the laser. I have a babybliss one

I tend to use the wax strips but hate having to let it grow a bit

Who,e thing is a nightmare

Havalona · 06/01/2025 19:45

@Bankholidayhelp thats my fear also. Bearded lady in the NH. NO!

I'm 60+ now and gave up all the jazzy implements etc. long ago. Couldn't be arsed as I have too many other enjoyable things to do!. Now I just whizz around my chin every morning with a mens safety razor. Such a close shave ha ha, 3 seconds and done. Guess what my must have item is when away from home? Wink

curious79 · 06/01/2025 19:47

salon for a blast of laser. I have to have it done about once a year as my out of control hormones mean they grow back. Some are now grey so my only hope now is electrolysis - and try finding a good one of those!

JetskiSkyJumper · 06/01/2025 19:49

Mines mostly light so laser isn't working. Going to have to try electrolysis I think.

FoxRedPuppy · 06/01/2025 19:49

I shave mine on the shower every morning. I also have light hair so no lasering or IPL for me.

Bought myself one of these before Christmas after a particularly scary look in the mirror at the work Christmas do
Absolutely loving it

My hair's light so Lumea didn't work and hair removal/lightening creams irritated my skin too much. Saw this recommended in a beauty page and it's been a game changer. Hair doesn't grow back stubbly and it only takes a few seconds every couple of days.

I use mine every few days. Takes a minute at most, doesn't hurt. I've tried every else over the years. I like the recharge aspect of it.

There was some comedian who had a skit about wanting to set up a chin hair removal service for old ladies and call it Dignitache 😁
