Help! Hairy lady chin out of control

Taytoface · 06/01/2025 13:19

I have peri mein chin hair growth. Was managing with regular plucking, but now it's out of fricking control. Waxing does nothing to my mofo whiskers.
Was thinking of getting a home later thing, but my hair is fairly light, apart from the odd jet black 2mm thick chin hairs.

What do you ladies use? Any reviews of the home laser kits for people with light red hair?

I am not very high maintenance, so would prefer something done infrequently but lasting.

i cannot stand the feel of my chin and am constantly worrying at it, which makes my skin come up in blotches. Really feeling very beautiful right now.

Is the thing on Amazon a facial epilator or a shaver

Thanks

AquaFurball · 06/01/2025 20:47

Electrolysis. PCOS and fair hair, only thing that helps and it's taken years.

Oblomov25 · 06/01/2025 20:49

Reminds me I must book some electrolysis. Best thing I ever did, years ago was start having it, now I only need it occasionally.

Went to professional salon and had 10 sessions of laser. Am also fair but it worked!

DressDilemma · 06/01/2025 21:01

Phillips Lumea has worked wonders on my thick coarse chin hair.

Stressybetty · 06/01/2025 21:01

DH got me a lumea last year but have never got round to sorting it out. I use one of those £20 shaver electric shaver things mentioned and the occasional tweeze. Drives me mad

@Bankholidayhelp thats my fear also. Bearded lady in the NH. NO!

I'm 60+ now and gave up all the jazzy implements etc. long ago. Couldn't be arsed as I have too many other enjoyable things to do!. Now I just whizz around my chin every morning with a mens safety razor. Such a close shave ha ha, 3 seconds and done. Guess what my must have item is when away from home? Wink

Same. I spent years plucking and waxing until there were just too many hairs to pluck and wax. Now I just have a quick shave every morning when I wash my face. Sod all that expense and messing about!

Also - it’s really good for exfoliating and my skin looks glowy every morning!

Titsywoo · 06/01/2025 21:03

I'm going to try professional laser treatment. Tweezing is giving me ingrown hairs now and there are so many that it is hard to keep on top of. I have a Lumea but refuse to shave my face as it freaks me out.

SensibleSigma · 06/01/2025 21:09

I use DH’s old electric razor. Any plucking type things doesn’t work as the re growth makes spots. Quick shave every couple of days is fine.

henlake7 · 06/01/2025 21:17

Shaving for me. TBH I've had a goatee since my mid twenties....it's easier to just whip round with a razor every morning.
(Although it is a shock if you don't do it and realise you could be in ZZ Top!😂)

OrchardDoor · 06/01/2025 21:19

I used to have an epilator but now I have a light up magnifying mirror and use tweezers every day.

Pharos · 06/01/2025 21:22

@suburburban it’s a shaver - like a single Phillips rotating head. You recharge via USB

GoldenSunflowers · 06/01/2025 21:26

Laser was a game changer for me. I go every 4-6 weeks. It’s a quick 3 minute blast. Smells like pork scratchings. Works out at £15-20 per session. I started in September and I don’t mind doing it forever, if I have to.

stealthninjamum · 06/01/2025 21:26

I have had electrolysis about four times. I should probably have it again as I have a tiny hairy patch at the moment.

claudiaswinklemen · 06/01/2025 21:40

People who have tried the £16 - 20 shaving pen things - what happens if you stop shaving? I have peach fuzz (am naturally very fair) and wondering if it's best to just live with the increasing hairiness.

Bignanna · 06/01/2025 21:44

Bankholidayhelp · 06/01/2025 18:19

I have a similar one but it's something that you'd likely have to use on a daily basis. so not like waxing, threading etc. I use it for 'emergencies'
I've got an epilator that I use regularly to keep chin hair under control.

My worst fear is being in a nursing home at a bout 90 with a full beard because no one cares enough to get rid of the hair for me!

I’ve told my daughter to pluck out any facial hair if I’m not conscious, or unable to do it myself- even when I’m laid out!

Yes that's what freaks me out

AnybodyAnywhere · 06/01/2025 21:46

Highly recommend Electrolysis. I haven’t had a single chin or upper lip hair for 3 years now.

lovemycbf · 06/01/2025 21:48

notprincehamlet · 06/01/2025 18:26

Find somewhere that does electrolysis - slower than laser-y things but permanent

I stopped going for electrolysis as you've got to actually let the hair grow and I simply couldn't cope seeing all the bastards growing long 😳

Verbena17 · 06/01/2025 21:50

I switch between the Braun facial hair shaver thingy and dermaplaning my face using the little blade thingies.

For all the car pluckers, illuminated tweezers are helpful.

MrsFionaCharming · 06/01/2025 22:02

I had 12 sessions of electrolysis which barely did a thing. A single session of laser and I saw a huge improvement. I’ve now had 3 sessions of laser, and a m8nth after my last session, I’ve got about 4 hairs, down from a full beard.

InfoSecInTheCity · 06/01/2025 22:07

I have tweezers in the cup holder in my car, something about the rear view mirror means that that's when I'm likely to spot the little fuckers, and for some reason they only pop out when I'm on the way to an important work meeting or some kind of event I want to look good for.

Gazelda · 06/01/2025 22:09

I've been having electrolysis for about 2 years. Every 4 weeks or so. 10mins costs about £22. I'm down to 5 mins now which is £13 each time.

My chin and upper lip are under control. My therapist sometimes tells me she can't find any hairs so doesn't charge me. I'm now reducing my sessions to every 5 weeks and I hope to gradually reduce it further.

Relatively pain free on the chin, but the upper lip is far more sensitive. I take an ibuprofen an hour before my appointment to make it easier.

Phillips Lumea has worked wonders on my thick coarse chin hair.

That's good to hear, we have one and DD (21) is struggling with under chin hairs that she would like to try it on .

Did you shave first?
