Help! Hairy lady chin out of control

Taytoface · 06/01/2025 13:19

I have peri mein chin hair growth. Was managing with regular plucking, but now it's out of fricking control. Waxing does nothing to my mofo whiskers.
Was thinking of getting a home later thing, but my hair is fairly light, apart from the odd jet black 2mm thick chin hairs.

What do you ladies use? Any reviews of the home laser kits for people with light red hair?

I am not very high maintenance, so would prefer something done infrequently but lasting.

i cannot stand the feel of my chin and am constantly worrying at it, which makes my skin come up in blotches. Really feeling very beautiful right now.

I have a similar one but it's something that you'd likely have to use on a daily basis. so not like waxing, threading etc. I use it for 'emergencies'
I've got an epilator that I use regularly to keep chin hair under control.

My worst fear is being in a nursing home at a bout 90 with a full beard because no one cares enough to get rid of the hair for me!

I literally think about this every day.

The Philips Lumea is a wish list item for me!

Hi OP,
I feel your pain, it's so miserable! If you can afford it, I recommend electrolysis with a skilled therapist. The lower part of my face was covered in thick black hairs as well as lots of ingrown ones and my skin was destroyed from plucking. My self-esteem was on the floor.
I googled electrolysis in my area and read reviews and somehow found my therapist who is surely an angel in human form. I started weekly electrolysis 16 months ago, and now just need 10mins every 8/10 wks to catch the stragglers!
It's not at all painfree, cheap or fast (not doing the best job of selling it here, am I, lol), but it is genuinely the best thing I've ever done. The hair is just...gone! It's honestly a miracle. Well, science, but it feels like a miracle to me.

Can I ask how many sessions it took before you noticed a difference? I'm on session 5, I know it's a long game.

Full beard in the nursing home is also one of my big fears. I wonder if some sort of mutual aid society could be formed amongst women for just this issue? The 50 somethings with 'the fear' could come and help out the 90 year olds? When my 90 year old Mum was very ill she was fixated on whether she had any of her facial hair wax left.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned the 'Tweezers With A Little Light On Them'. Thought they were a bit of a stupid gimmick for years but came across some for a £1 and thought why not. Wonderful! Although they did reveal some nasty little beggars that were lurking on my neck. Together with a lighted make up mirror they are really useful. Whilst I too use a shaver, there is something very satisfying about plucking the hard wiry hairs out.

I find threading way less painful than waxing and then deal with any little randoms with the tweezers inbetween

Echobelly · 07/01/2025 11:58

I go over mine with a microplane blade every now and then - not very longlasting but quick and doesn't bother my skin.

Ophy83 · 07/01/2025 12:12

Fine tip tweezers, but the game changer is the mirror - a magnifying light mirror so you can see every hair the instant it appears. Mine is a simplehuman travel mirror

I’d like to think that staff would not neglect this very necessary aspect of personal care, but it is something I think about and have warned my daughter about.

I've wanted to try an IPL but the radiation freaks me out.

Finishing Touch Flawless™ Face 3.0 - Boots

After years of agony of lip waxing etc I bought one of these and have never looked back! Painless, you can do every day if you want.

I think I'll get one of these. I am not convinced a Lumea would work on my face. I'm really pale but only some of the hair is dark, lots of it is light or bloody grey. I have daughters who I may get a Lumea for so they can do legs and pits, but a quick swipe along the jawline and under th chin with this might be better for me. Sigh.

StrawberryHoney · 07/01/2025 12:38

I use a bikini epilator. Don't get one with batteries, they are crap

OldieButBaddie · 07/01/2025 12:38

Lentilweaver · 07/01/2025 10:44

Great thank you @OldieButBaddie. will give it a shot then.

I was in two minds about it but I thought fuck it, why should I be in pain all the time when men just shave! At first I did feel the new hairs coming through if I ran my finger over but that soon went and now I just do it once a week, no pain, no hair and no stubble!

SeeSawSeen · 07/01/2025 12:43

@Taytoface @WasteOfPaint @Imperrysmum To answer some questions all at once:
I'm in the West of Ireland - PM if you want details of my human-in-angel-form therapist!!

It took about 6- 8 sessions to get things somewhat under control. I was doing weekly sessions for 4 months. My chin hair was really bad though, I can't stress that enough😆 My electrolysist said that from so many years of plucking, my chin hairs were Olympic athletes, lol.

Yes, you have to let them grown out before a session, which, not gonna lie, was awful at first. But weirdly and unexpectedly, after a few weeks I just kind of forgot about it. I think cos i knew it was being dealt with, i just learnt to live with it for the first time ever. I went hard-core and just let them grow, though as a PP says, you can shave (never pluck) then just grow them out for a few days before the session, depending on how quickly they grow.

Any other questions, just shout. Good luck!

Gettingbysomehow · 07/01/2025 12:52

I want to know why I have two thick jet black hairs sprouting out of my chin when the hair on every other part of my body is blond 😯

876543A · 07/01/2025 13:16

I would honestly recommend paying for a few sessions of laser treatment - its not that expensive for a small area. I pay £40 per session and I've had just two sessions, and the difference it has made to my chin / neck hair has been absolutely incredible. Mine had got out of control and I was plucking out about 10 thick black hairs morning and night, but the laser has really made a huge difference. It grows back much much more slowly and is less thick and coarse. Even if you could just pay for a couple of sessions it would really improve your life and mean much less regular plucking.

PrincessofWells · 07/01/2025 13:26

Epilator once a week works for me.

I have a bit of hair on my upper lip, I just use a little dermaplaner, takes 1 minute.
link below to one but you can get them for a lot cheaper and buy them in bulk on amazon, I also use the same dermaplaner to get fluff/ bobbles off coats😁

epilator works for me, do it in a bright light. youll be tweezing a large area all at once!

ChristmasRoses · 07/01/2025 17:01

I have the Philips Lumea, it's pretty good after the first two or three applications (2 weeks apart so takes 4 - 6 weeks). After that use it once a month. Painless and quick. Worth every penny

ChristmasRoses · 07/01/2025 17:05

By the way, Lumea is more effective the darker the hair

FrodisCapering · 07/01/2025 18:35

I have fair hair. Electrolysis has worked well for.me BUT it's been a weekly 15 mins appt for 16 months, targeting upper lip and chin intermittently. It isn't the nicest thing in the world but it's effective. If you decide on it, just make sure you go to a reputable place!

venus7 · 07/01/2025 19:00

Ihavenoclueaboutwhattodo · 06/01/2025 23:08

Any recommendations for good tweezers?

I have a very basic tweezer from Superdrug that works every time but they have changed the design so I dread what will happen if it ever gets lost!

Rubis tweezers are really good.....expensive, but a once in a lifetime purchase.

Not read whole thread but iin case it's not been mentioned you could try https://onlinedoctor.lloydspharmacy.com/uk/facial-hair-removal/vaniqa

I was prescribed this by GP a few years ago and it makes a big difference. Doesn't get rid of it completely but I would say 80% reduction. Easy to use.

I always find one during a teams call and then can't concentrate on anything else but the wirey mf. As soon as the call ends I'm off to find tweezers 🤣

This is very relatable 😂
