Help! Hairy lady chin out of control

Taytoface · 06/01/2025 13:19

I have peri mein chin hair growth. Was managing with regular plucking, but now it's out of fricking control. Waxing does nothing to my mofo whiskers.
Was thinking of getting a home later thing, but my hair is fairly light, apart from the odd jet black 2mm thick chin hairs.

What do you ladies use? Any reviews of the home laser kits for people with light red hair?

I am not very high maintenance, so would prefer something done infrequently but lasting.

i cannot stand the feel of my chin and am constantly worrying at it, which makes my skin come up in blotches. Really feeling very beautiful right now.

Thanks for the solidarity. I think electrolysis might be the way forward. So you have to grow the fuckers out before going? That might actually drive me insane.

How painful is Lumea or electrolysis?

Mounjarry · 07/01/2025 08:55

I'd book a consultation at a salon, they'll be able to advise on the best option for your particular hair type. Realistically with light hair your only option is going to be something via a salon if you want something lasting. My sister has the same issue, she just uses one of the scented shaving gels and shaves with a decent razor though, only takes a min or so and you'd never know looking at her ie no stubble, rash etc.

Have tried pretty well everything and a lot of the things I tried made it much worse.

And in the end many brands of salon and lip waxes made me come out in full face hives. Hair removal cream did terrible things for my lip and chin skin. Shaving (which I was told to do between sessions of a certain type of laser 10 years ago) didn’t work and I think made the pale hairs more visible.

I have a Phillips Lumea but it has worked better on my legs than face.

So I decided to play the long game and to that end forked out nearly £500 for 6 sessions of a new kind (to me) of salon laser. 5 treatments in - each 3 weeks apart - and very few of the dark hairs are coming back. In between I trim and if vital to be completely hair free I get my womanly facial hairs threaded, but only if it’s 10 days - a fortnight before my laser appt. There are still a few strong white hairs - which is what plucking will do for you - so I will get those electrolysed ultimately.

It’s my belief that permanent facial hair removal should be available on the NHS, even if it comes with a ££ charge to the person who needs it. There are so many unscrupulous commercial providers out there and no come-back if their claims fail. And the mental / psychological distress is real.

Has anyone here got recommendations of (London based) electrolysis providers?

I have black/dark brown hair under my chin but white/blonde hair on my chin/neck and upper lip like guitar strings. I’m naturally blonde. It’s a pita.

Ive tried creams which irritate my skin and waxing but you have to let it grow ffs. So now I just shave it off with the hair removing gizmo or those demaplaining things.

I want to go for laser hair removal but it won’t remove the blonde/white bits which are the worst. So I live in hope for a miracle

Old fashioned electrolysis at a salon works very well for isolated facial hairs.

Good consultant dermatologists sometimes have electrolysis technicians in their practice.

@Bankholidayhelp thats my fear also. Bearded lady in the NH. NO!

I'm 60+ now and gave up all the jazzy implements etc. long ago. Couldn't be arsed as I have too many other enjoyable things to do!. Now I just whizz around my chin every morning with a mens safety razor. Such a close shave ha ha, 3 seconds and done. Guess what my must have item is when away from home? Wink

60s here too and I do the same. I keep a razor in my handbag because if I had to go to hospital suddenly, it's likely I'd at least have my bag. I also keep one in my toiletries bag and make up bag for the same reason!

I used to use Flawless and the like but the blade would go blunt

Loveautumnhatewinter · 07/01/2025 09:32

Ladies, happy to be of service here. I would recommend Vaniqa cream 11.5%. Saw a dermatologist recommend it on social media and thought I’d give it a try. It’s a bit pricey- just short of £80 and I bought mine from the Independent Pharmacy online. You have to complete a short questionnaire to check you’re suitable for it. It basically weakens the enzymes that cause hair growth or something. You apply it morning and night at least 5mins before moisturiser/make up. And you can use it up to 4 months. I’ve used it for a month and then got a bit lapse and haven’t applied it for the last 3 weeks. I’m
amazed at the results. The chin hair growth is considerably less and even when the black/grey hairs do come through, they seem to be considerably weaker and less stubborn. I can now go about a week and notice about 4/5 hairs poking through which is a massive improvement to the previous, daily morning stubble!

Lentilweaver · 07/01/2025 09:33

Laughs in Asian.😫
I have tried everything except Philips Lumea and electrolysis. Very thick dark hair.
At the moment I get it threaded in an Asian beauty salon and use dermablades in between.

They only need to be 2mm long, achieved by not shaving a couple of days if you're really unlucky 😅

Abracadabra12345 · 07/01/2025 09:38

I just love how the leg and underarm hair disappear and migrate to the face...😬

Threewheeler1 · 07/01/2025 09:39

Bankholidayhelp · 06/01/2025 18:19

I have a similar one but it's something that you'd likely have to use on a daily basis. so not like waxing, threading etc. I use it for 'emergencies'
I've got an epilator that I use regularly to keep chin hair under control.

My worst fear is being in a nursing home at a bout 90 with a full beard because no one cares enough to get rid of the hair for me!

I have the same fear...
I have sons and a DH who wouldn't notice if my eyeballs grew hair, so I'm playing the long game and being very, very lovely to my nieces...👀😬

Threewheeler1 · 07/01/2025 09:46

Also have a Philips Lumea but big black whiskers. I'm a bit lazy on the beauty front, so don't do it as frequently as I should but I think it works. I get new ones all the time in horrible places, like ear lobes and out the side of my cheeks - wtf?
The other week I was rocking a Beppe soul patch and goatee...
Often don't notice until they're massive 😮😖
And constantly feeling my chin during the day! Snaggy little horrors 😱

Radiatorvalves · 07/01/2025 09:47

I’m having a course at an EverySkin clinic… you’re not supposed to tweezer them out las it means the laser is less effective.

NorthernSoul55 · 07/01/2025 09:48

Solidarity! Why is it that my over plucked 80s eyebrows have never grown back but all bodily hair now appears on my chin?
Yesterday I turned my house upside down looking for my 'best' tweezers which can get the tiniest hairs. They were bought 5 years ago, an emergency purchase in Rome, and are brilliant. If they are ever truly lost, I'd have to go into hibernation (or go back to Rome)

Toddlerteaplease · 07/01/2025 10:12

I went to a laser clinic. It was cheaper than a lumea thing. As they had a special offer on. It worked really well.

Omg! Mine too

WasteOfPaint · 07/01/2025 10:27

Lumea made no difference to my dark chin hairs at all, although it worked on my legs.

Finishing Touch Flawlessâ„¢ Face 3.0 - Boots

After years of agony of lip waxing etc I bought one of these and have never looked back! Painless, you can do every day if you want.

Might try this but I tend to find battery operated stuff fiddly and lose the parts. They also seem to be less efficient after a while?

There are no parts!
I have had mine for 3 years and still going strong

I also have one
They are not as painful as waxing/threading but still not very nice!

Great thank you @OldieButBaddie. will give it a shot then.
