What’s the problem? If they can afford it 🤷🏻‍♀️

JimHalpertsWife · 05/01/2025 08:33

Is the holidaying person clearing a joint account for this / leaving their kids with you for each trip?

What is the issue?

ShanghaiDiva · 05/01/2025 08:34

If they have the time and money then it’s not a problem is it…?

MiddleAgedDread · 05/01/2025 08:35

Not another post about how much other people spend on holidays!! 🙄

terriblyangryattimes · 05/01/2025 08:35

Are you just jealous you can't afford these trips/get away for so long from work/commitments?

If it's within this person's means why is it excessive?

Aposterhasnoname · 05/01/2025 08:35

What’s silly about it. If they can afford it why not?

Derogations · 05/01/2025 08:36

I travel a lot so No, not really. (Listing my last year’s destinations would be too outing!)

It seems fine to me. But, as someone who travels all the time, I am beginning to really question the ethics of tourism.

By pure coincidence, I have never been to Venice and kept thinking I would go. In 2024, I mentally scored it off my wish list - it is far too over visited and it is severely damaging the Venetian environment.

DaisyChain505 · 05/01/2025 08:36

Sounds bloody wonderful.

obviously this person isn’t you so we’re going to need more context on the situation.

ShatnersWoodwind · 05/01/2025 08:36

Need more info. My retired mum has a huge final salary pension, and it's just her. So she goes on holiday ever month! No problem with that!

itssnowinginhere · 05/01/2025 08:38

It's my sister
Ever since she met her partner (2 years ago ) she's away all the time
Including meals out /cocktails etc
I just think she could be using her money more sensible ,instead of holidays etc

Its not up to you how someone else spends their own money. Sorry you need to mind your own business on this one.

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/01/2025 08:40

Sounds fab and we travel about the same amount.

Cheersmedears123 · 05/01/2025 08:40

I’d be away that much if I could!

Facecream24 · 05/01/2025 08:41

Good for her having fun and loving life. Are you a bit envious maybe? Resentful of her being away so often perhaps? I love to go away as much as possible too. Much prefer it to being at home all the time!

ScaryM0nster · 05/01/2025 08:41

Sounds lovely, and assuming there’s no one / things who’s dependent on her, or that getting into unmanageable debt to afford it then why not.

Silvertulips · 05/01/2025 08:42

Depends on perspective.

Holidays make her happy.

She can afford it, then why not.

You can get some great last min deals if you hold out - you’d be surprised how cost effective that is.

Bungrung · 05/01/2025 08:43

Not great from an environmental pov but let her worry about her money.

Flatandhappy · 05/01/2025 08:43

It sounds like you are very jealous. People can make their own decisions about how to spend their money, unless she is trying to borrow money off you or it affects you in some way you need to mind your own business. I travel a lot more than that in a year, it is a decision DH and I have made and are happy with.

What would more sensible look like? No one ever laid on their death bed reminiscing about the time they bought a nice sensible couch.

Pigeonqueen · 05/01/2025 08:46

Why are you resentful of her doing this? If she’s happy your attitude is strange.

Username917778 · 05/01/2025 08:46

Not excessive at all...!

BusyPoster · 05/01/2025 08:47

Sounds good to me but then I go on holiday every six weeks.

Onlyvisiting · 05/01/2025 08:47

If they can afford it, ie pay for all their needs from their own income- and are meeting all their family obligations ie childcare then its fine.

And if the UK places are mostly overnight or weekend trips that makes it a lot less.

It's her money. She and her boyfriend are making the most of the new relationship.

Jealousy will get you nowhere!!

Simonjt · 05/01/2025 08:47

Why would it be excessive? Surely there are very few people who prefer spending their free time doing absolutely nothing?

There’s nothing excessive about choosing to go on holiday.
