It's my sister
Ever since she met her partner (2 years ago ) she's away all the time
Including meals out /cocktails etc
I just think she could be using her money more sensible ,instead of holidays etc

How dull and narrow minded you sound. Let people enjoy their lives. I thought most people learn as children that not everybody likes the same things in life?!
I suppose the next post is to be a drip feed about how she’s getting herself into terrible debt and has stopped paying essential bills!

JimHalpertsWife · 05/01/2025 08:47

Eh?

In what universe does this have anything to do with you? Unless she owes you money and is saying she's skint?

Or is she dumping three old dogs on you each time?

Do you co own a business and she's never there?

Clutching now for reasons why this affects you.

dreamer24 · 05/01/2025 08:48

It's only 2-3 more nights away / holidays than we have planned this year. Not excessive at all if it's affordable. It's my go to thing that perks me up - I don't spend loads on clothes or make up or beauty or any other hobbies. I get more pleasure out of trips away so i save my money for that. I can afford to, so why shouldn't I?

Positivenancy · 05/01/2025 08:48

Nothing wrong with it, it’s what they enjoy.
I don’t go out every weekend , don’t drink really, don’t smoke.

last year I had
Cork ireland -1 night away - with nice dinner with Dp
Kilkenny Ireland -1 night away - with an orchestra show and dinner with DP
Dublin Ireland 1-night away with musical with my DD.
Paris - 2 nights weekend - food tour and all the usual tourist haunts with DP
gran Canaria - 1 week - sun holiday with my dc and my Dm
Italy - 1week - with DP

this year I have already had
Kilkenny - 1 night away with dinner with DP
by the end of March I will have had
Dublin - 1 night away with Musical with DC
Paris - 3 night weekend with DD, my DM, SIL and DNiece
London- 2 nights weekend - with DP

ApolloandDaphne · 05/01/2025 08:49

What do you think she should be spending her money on? Her life sounds fun and interesting and if she is able and can afford it, why not?

AyrnotAir · 05/01/2025 08:49

No it's not.

leafybrew · 05/01/2025 08:51

Global Warming folks - it's a real thing. FLIGHTS contribute a lot to that.

Yes it is excessive to go away that many times a year.

[pile on now - I couldn't give a shit]

chickenpieandchips · 05/01/2025 08:51

I'd she leaving her kids with you/others? Does she say she can't afford other things.
If no, then don't stress.

Justsayit123 · 05/01/2025 08:52

Not excessive. You sound jealous. Her decision how she spends her money.

It’s got absolutely NOTHING to do with you!

you sound jealous and bitter!

But more than half are UK? Presumably it's not all flights?

I don't think it's excessive at all.

Unless your sister is leaving starving, neglected kids at home to go off on these trips why is it any of your business how she spends her time or money?

CeeJay81 · 05/01/2025 08:53

I'd be doing it, if I could afford it. It's like that thread where someone is asking about about an £18k holiday. It just shows we have a very unequal society and mumsnet is full of wealthy people. Travel is def something I'd do a lot, if I won the lottery.

Ratisshortforratthew · 05/01/2025 08:54

You’re jealous then.

This year I’ve been to Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Japan, Thailand and Indonesia and I loved every minute. What’s your problem?

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 05/01/2025 08:54

Is it your business?

ScarlettSunset · 05/01/2025 08:55

I get it OP. With a few tweaks of the destinations you could have been talking about one of my family members.

The difference really is though that my family member CAN'T afford it and is often complaining about being broke. It's not my problem though, so I've just sorted of switched off from listening to them about it (both details of each trip and their money worries) as they won't change.

If your sister can afford it and nothing will come back on you (like her asking you to lend her money etc) then just leave her to get on with it.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 05/01/2025 08:55

Good for her! Life is definitely for living!

We went on 4 cruises last year, a couple of long weekend breaks and a few one nighters.

I had a really awful job and my holidays helped me through. I’ve moved on now so will likely go away slightly less this year but still got 3 cruises booked and will do some short breaks as well.

If I learnt anything from last year, it’s don’t put anything off. None of us is guaranteed a tomorrow, I’m living my life now!

Octavia64 · 05/01/2025 08:56

I love travelling.

I have an adult child living back with me for a bit so I'm doing less than usual but it really makes my life worthwhile.

Four of those are U.K. breaks,so presumably no flights.

Nocheezesforusmeesez · 05/01/2025 08:57

This is me! I met my partner 2 years ago after being miserable with my ex for 10 years. We go everywhere and see everything now, holidays, cocktails, days out, theatre trips. I am finally experiencing life and having fun. It's my money, I work hard for it, kids are happy. Our life is wonderful.

Be pleased for her or mind your own business!

SlashBeef · 05/01/2025 08:58

So you're jealous.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 05/01/2025 08:58

Sounds great, people should go on as many holidays as they want.

What their jealous sister thinks is irrelevant.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 05/01/2025 08:59

Aposterhasnoname · 05/01/2025 08:45

What would more sensible look like? No one ever laid on their death bed reminiscing about the time they bought a nice sensible couch.

Unless they used that nice sensible couch as their deathbed. 😉🤣

Stickortwigs · 05/01/2025 08:59

Lol at the update. Of course she can decide what she spends her money on

Sounds similar to what I did pre-kids. It was great. Still do 3 holidays a year with the kids and think it’s the best thing of anything I spend my money on.

dothehokeycokey · 05/01/2025 09:01

Wtf have I just read ????

So what if that's how they spend their money.

What in gods hell does it have to do with you or anyone else????

Fuck me
