travel broadens the mind op. I say good for her! if she can afford it and isn't shirking any responsibilities then why the hell not. life is for living and she's living her best one by the sounds of it, be honest with yourself about why this really bothers you op are you maybe a little jealous? I wouldn't blame you if you are!but own it, don't pretend that it's that you are worried about her spending her money. I'm off to look for holiday inspiration :)

Blarn · 05/01/2025 09:01

Sounds lovely. I'm assuming there is not going to be a massive drip feed that she's robbing banks to pay for it all?

battairzeedurgzome · 05/01/2025 09:01

I've had years when I've had more holidays than that. Unless your sister is asking you for money or dumping her children or pets on you, it's none of your business.

Neeenaaw · 05/01/2025 09:03

Yeah, fuck the adventures and joy and all that shit. Why should she be enjoying her life? There’s misery to be had.

itssnowinginhere · 05/01/2025 08:38

It's my sister
Ever since she met her partner (2 years ago ) she's away all the time
Including meals out /cocktails etc
I just think she could be using her money more sensible ,instead of holidays etc

Are you quite sure you're that familiar with the intricacies of their finances?

soupfiend · 05/01/2025 09:03

That works out at 9 trips, just worked mine out and its 9 trips. We always do 9 trips because we have our main holidays and go away for the long weekends over the BH and then another one I do in November, we dont go away at xmas

Our are a mixture of long UK weekends, weeks in the UK weeks abroad and a couple of long weekends abroad. Nothing fancy

I live for my holidays

Good for her!! Unless she is asking you to fund these trips, YABVU.

Green-eyed monster perhaps?

ForeverinBJ · 05/01/2025 09:05

Gotta be a wind up. No one is surely that judgemental and miserable

CamelByCamel · 05/01/2025 09:05

Unless you've actually been told exactly what all the holidays cost, it's really hard to know. Especially if there are no DC, since term time travel is usually cheaper. It's a bad way to try and work out how much money people are spending.

RaininSummer · 05/01/2025 09:05

Not my cup of tea and not great for the environment. But not your business really OP.

LoudSnoringDog · 05/01/2025 09:06

We travel on average somewhere every month. This will include city breaks/ beach holidays and long haul.

You only live once and I'm all for experiencing the world

MerrilyOnhigh · 05/01/2025 09:06

Must admit I'm slightly curious about Newcastle as a holiday destination - not the most obvious one.

Getter · 05/01/2025 09:06

Before I had kids I was away this much - and more! Why on earth shouldn't she?? You are not her keeper or her financial advisor.

It’s their money, lives and choices!
To be honest what business is it of yours? It sounds like you’re jealous of their lifestyle!

Moonlightstars · 05/01/2025 09:07

I prioritise my extra money entirely on holidays. Always have. Our house and car are a bit small and shit but do the job. I lovely travelling and experiences more than a decent sofa or a new kitchen.

babasaclover · 05/01/2025 09:07

Sounds amazing. I do similar, literally never use a days annual leave unless I'm away.

For me though I'm not bothering with England much until I'm older and won't want to fly as much.

Always have several city breaks which are often cheaper than a uk hotel stay anyway and a few sun holidays.

Life is too short to just stagnate. Get out there and see the world. We're lucky to live in a time where travel is cheap and plentiful

Blondiebeachbabe · 05/01/2025 09:08

It does seem a lot, in the sense that we wouldn't have enough free time to do that. However, we do 2 long haul holidays every year, within our annual leave periods. Last year we went to the Caribbean in January and the Far East & Australia in November, and we are off to North Africa in 7 weeks time, followed by the Caribbean again in November.

Only 10 years ago, things were very different. We had very few holidays, as other things going on meant we couldn't afford it.

Wildwalksinjanuary · 05/01/2025 09:08

😄 op you sound like you have a case of sour grapes 🍇
Stamps foot, why can’t she just stop having so much fun with her one life!

Plenty of time for sensible - she's living her best life quite literally.

You should be happy for her

magicalmrmistoffelees · 05/01/2025 09:09

Why is it ‘silly’? Why do you need to ‘understand’ it? It’s not your life. Unless you’re going to drip feed that you’re paying for it?

kate592 · 05/01/2025 09:09

Sounds great but ideally I'd have a few less breaks in the UK and add in a long haul destination instead!
While China has over a 1000 coal fired power stations and are planning another 2 a month on average there's not much point in me worrying about a few flights each year.

NarNarGoon · 05/01/2025 09:09

leafybrew · 05/01/2025 08:51

Global Warming folks - it's a real thing. FLIGHTS contribute a lot to that.

Yes it is excessive to go away that many times a year.

[pile on now - I couldn't give a shit]

I mean, you’re not wrong… but until aviation corporations and global governments collectively agree to limit flights then the odd individual reducing their holiday flights is going to have next to no impact… and before you say “if everyone reduced their flights…”, it’s just not realistic and the average person won’t do it and the celebrity/business execs definitely won’t do it.

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 05/01/2025 09:10

Is there something that has caused you to resent her going out there and living life?

We have a camper and have travelled a well it this year and has helped me a lot with my mental health and wellbeing so surely you should want that for someone?

PointySnoot · 05/01/2025 09:10

What's it got to do with you? Unless she's borrowing money from you, or going into ridiculous amounts of debt, then MYOB.

So do cows farting apparently. Neither should be stopped 😂
