Was predicted to start around 8pm here and last a few hours, forecast now says around 10pm and 30% chance of snow for just over an hour. Then tomorrow it's going to be 9 degrees warmer than it was today and loads of rain , so even if wet get a light dusting tonight it'll be gone first thing

dynamiccactus · 04/01/2025 19:04

There was the tiniest bit at parkrun this morning (Surrey). But haven't seen anything since.

i don’t know where you live but my son was in Vancouver last winter and the city ground to a halt when they had heavy snow. This was surprising.

We get about 85 inches of snow each year. Before my time year, in 1998 Canada had the storm of a lifetime with ice being the major problem. My in laws remember it well.

We are north east and my phone tells me it's due overnight here!

A Swedish friend living in Stockholm who was visiting friends further south for NY was prevented from returning home the other day - so much snow the trains stopped running. She had to stay the night in a hotel.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/01/2025 19:12

Don’t suppose we’ll get any here (outer SW London). Would really like some in Oxford though - for the Gdcs!

Sinkintotheswamp · 04/01/2025 19:15

If you Google "UK snowmap" it will tell you where the snow is at the moment. Looks like Bath / Cardiff / Severn estuary way.

VegTrug · 04/01/2025 19:15

This is the weather radar and the pink area is snow. It's moving towards the red pin. It will hit our area around midnight

So where’s all this snow we were warned about
Ginburee · 04/01/2025 19:29

Snowing in the Southwest and we were not expecting as much as we have.

needld · 04/01/2025 19:29

@Thomasina79 in London the weather warning is only yellow, which means its unlikely to happen (but will have a medium impact if it does).

We live in a country where it snows in winter - it’s currently snowing most days now and is -10. If it snows heavily on a school or work day, you just get up earlier to get there. Most people walk to school . It is incredibly rare to have a snow day and keep everyone at home.

With the very limited snow the UK gets, the schools shouldn’t be closed particularly as there is plenty of notice of when it’s likely to snow.

Such a daft observation. You said it yourself, your country is geared up for snow, ours is not because it rarely snows! Like almost never and the climate crisis will make it even less likely. Why would we waste resources on something that only disrupts for about half a day a year?

fussychica · 04/01/2025 19:35

Currently snowing heavily in West Wilts. BBC forecast says sleet then rain. Met Office says yellow warning for snow.

getthosetitsup · 04/01/2025 19:37

Currently a dusting in Bristol.

MargaretThursday · 04/01/2025 19:37

We've got on the met office 95+% of heavy snow currently for the next two hours.
We have faint drizzle. I cancelled what I was meant to be doing and feel cheated.

We're about 17 miles from Cardiff, to the east. Very little happening here.

Surely gritting the roads so that everyone can get to school and work makes economic sense

NotOneOfTheInCrowd · 04/01/2025 19:43

I’m just outside London and we haven’t had snow forecast. But, it’s going to be minus 2 tonight, and then tomorrow it’s going to be 12 degrees. HTF does that work?

Wellineverdidbuy · 04/01/2025 19:43

Parker231 · 04/01/2025 19:39

Most of our main roads do get gritted but if you live in a rural area like I do a lot of the little lanes don't get done. Presumably not enough gritters or grit, and fair enough as they'd just be idely sitting in a depot somewhere for the other 11.5 months of the year.

I think our county has two gritters.

So they prioritise bus routes first. Only thing is they've also cut buses so that's not as big an area as it once was. They've also taken the grit bins out (or the vast majority) so we can't even do it ourselves.

I'm sure the gritters are out. But I'm also sure if we have more than 2" of snow, then our estate will be blocked because we're hilly, and low priority. If we're lucky we're going to be sledging down the main road again. It's a perfect slope.

myhundredk · 04/01/2025 19:50

My weather app has claimed it's snowing heavily twice in the past two days as well as flurries throughout- we haven't had a single flake! Central Scotland. I'm not impressed. I want snow this weekend so we can enjoy it and then hope it's cleared before we go back to work next week Grin

IncessantNameChanger · 04/01/2025 19:54

There was a yellow weather warning for all of England a few days ago, but now its only predicted for Midlands and above.

I'm not expecting any near London

Tearsricochet · 04/01/2025 19:55

Have to be honest and say I was hoping to be snowed in so I can’t get to work on Monday!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 04/01/2025 19:59

It’s meant to start around 9pm here. If I don’t wake up to a blanket of white, I’ll be so annoyed but I live by the sea and we never get snow. I think 2021 was our last dusting 😭.

Chipsahoy · 04/01/2025 20:01

North Scotland has it.

IncessantNameChanger · 04/01/2025 20:01

I lied! Looked at the snow map and it was saying its snowing, and it is!
