Ds wants the biggest room.

Ds keeps asking for a room swap. He's doing my head in . For past 4 days all I have heard is mum let me explain.

He then gos on to say please could we do a room swap . He's asking for A* to have his room . M to have A room and him to have M* room and E stay where he is.

Basically teen ds wants the largest room. I told him no as we have that set up for a reason . Ds has a middle size room. Easy get a double bed. His wardrobes , drawers and snake enclosure, also his gaming set up and still plenty of floor space.

Then he's bugging me but there's no where to put my snake can I at least put it in your room. Me no . Then he gos on and on to get the same answer.

Today its can me and E* at least swap beds . He has a small double . E* also has the smallest room . Again told him no.

Oh and also can i put the stake in the airing cupboard. Its a large walk on one . Told him no again. Thats where I dry my washing.

I don't get his thinking . I get he may ask. But he's spent 4 days going on and on.

How old are the kids?

How many kids? How many rooms?

Is he wanting your room?

It’s your house! At 17, he’ll either be off to university next year or he’ll be able to earn money and move out before long. Ignore.

Iwishiwasagiraffe · 02/01/2025 20:12

I’m a bit lost by who has which room and which size room/bed. Can you explain it without the asterisks because it seems to make things bold

CheeseTime · 02/01/2025 20:12

So who has the biggest room now and why?

Anonym00se · 02/01/2025 20:13

Tell him when he pays the rent/mortgage he can have his pick of bedrooms. Until then, you don’t want it mentioned again.

vodkaredbullgirl · 02/01/2025 20:13

🤔 😕

MauveVelcro · 02/01/2025 20:16

Your post really isn't making sense.

Why would he want to swap beds with E?

Liesmorelies · 02/01/2025 20:17

Can you explain clearly who has which room now using ds2 etc as is the convention here, rather than this weird and confusing set of initials and asterisks. Maybe saying how big the rooms are would also help. A 17yo shouldn't be dictating but for all we know the current set up may be batshit or unfair but it's impossible to tell from this.

He asked that as well . I said no. I have the largest room. Partly because it saved arguing. Also it's above the living room and ds is to noisy to be above the living room. At the moment he's above the kitchen so his noise does not really effect anyone

5 rooms 4 kids and myself.

Dodgy

RosesAndHellebores · 02/01/2025 20:19

MNet, miracle response. "No is a complete sentence".

You've let him have snakes though. Why would he think anything is beyond limits?

Pineapplewaves · 02/01/2025 20:21

It seems that the snake is the issue? He doesn't want the snake in his room anymore? Perhaps he should find a new home for the snake then he'd have more room!

fruitbrewhaha · 02/01/2025 20:21

No, and do not bring it up again, no further discussion will be entered into.

There should be a consequence for bringing it up.

I do it like that because I have dyslexia and i get confused. So I use the first letter of their name . But one starts with A so then I thought people might think I mean the word A . Then when it gos ds1 dd 4 ds2 or what ever I get totally confused so I normally do by name and age or gender and age . Maybe the star was not such a good idea

I said that he said no . I told him he can't have it all ways . It will be the same answer. He's just pissing me off

Is the snake in need of a new, bigger viv that there's not enough room for? Is that the problem?

The problem is asterisks are used as formatting so your post hasn't appeared how you intended. I can't follow anything but ultimately you need to tell the child asking about swapping rooms that no means no and if he carries on haranguing you there will be consequences.

HeddaGarbled · 02/01/2025 20:27

Sorry, it isn’t making sense. Why would he want to swap with the sibling who has the smallest room?

BlueSilverCats · 02/01/2025 20:28

Is the snake still in its enclosure?Grin

Yeah I get that . That's why I said the Stars were probably not a good idea

I'd get him to look you in the eye and say the final answer now and forever is no.
And then forbid him from asking again

He's more then welcome to work his arse off, move out and sleep in any room of his choosing.

Unrelated38 · 02/01/2025 20:33

Could you do a
"current set up"
Room 1
Room 2
Room 3
Room 4
Room 5

"Proposed set up"
Room 1
Room 2
Room 3
Room 4
Room 5

Why did he want to switch beds?

Is he saying there's no space for the snake enclosure? Can you get a shelf?

Nonetheless, it's your house, he doesn't get to dictate where people sleep.
