Leaving the house in disarray till Monday.

Am still in Christmas mode.
Sleeping in until 10am (have teens) chocolates for lunch etc.

DH said about us attempting to tackle the bedroom today (it was thw dumping ground over xmas) but I said I want to just leave it al until the kids are back at school and I will tackle it all then.

Am obviously doing the normal daily stuff, bits and bobs, kitchen etc

But until Monday I just want to keep the Christmas lights on and watch crappy TV and play scrabble

Anyone else feel the same?

No, I did mine on New year's eve

Paradoes · 02/01/2025 13:48

I’m half way through a deep clean (did the oven and light fittings and fifth load of washing) as I’m a teacher and back to it on Monday too

hoise smells nice but I am leaving the garlands and burning Christmas candles

I think your idea is great though 🙌 enjoy !!!!

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 02/01/2025 13:50

Nope. I'm back at work today and wanted to return on normal ground so all the Christmas stuff got taken down yesterday, still sat in the spare room until Saturday when we'll put it in the loft.
Looks so bare 🙁

Liesmorelies · 02/01/2025 13:52

I'm with OP. I'm a teacher and will be marking today and tomorrow but Christmas decs and lights will be on until Sunday and we are still going through the treat food too. I love this time of year and won't be cutting it short.

candlelightees · 02/01/2025 13:54

Not unreasonable at all.

We have taken the tree down but still eating through the treats and binge watching the good dramas that have recently come out.

Changeitup81 · 02/01/2025 13:57

Nope... Cleared all away yesterday and did a bit of cleaning.

Back to work today, then Mon-Thur next week so needed to do it when I had the time, otherwise the state of the house would just add to the stress.

Plus I am no way still in Christmas mode, so would just be depressing.

CalicoPusscat · 02/01/2025 13:58

Yep I have so much to tidy up and pack away

popandchoc · 02/01/2025 13:59

I wish i felt well enough to sort house out. Will hopefully be at the weekend.

Nourishinghandcream · 02/01/2025 13:59

Fine.👍

I am taking the tree & decs down today but the house will not be completely straight for a couple of days and we will be eating Christmas food for a long while yet.

lightsandtunnels · 02/01/2025 13:59

I'm done with Christmas now - I love it but I'm always glad to get back to normal just after NY. Decs down, tree going in the garden later so DH can chop it up. Leftover chocs and biscuits not opened are going in the wardrobe to be forgotten about for a few weeks at least! I'm craving salad 😂

Davros · 02/01/2025 14:01

I'm taking the tree down today because it's being collected tomorrow to feed the goats at the local city farm. Everything else will stay until Monday

LouisvilleSlugger · 02/01/2025 14:02

Our house is a tip, still decorated and piles of opened presents everywhere. My massive advent calendar is still on the bedroom floor. I’m being really lazy and keep thinking I’ll tackle it tomorrow.

AutoP1lot · 02/01/2025 14:04

Well we've been away all over Christmas and New Year, I also had a medical procedure on 23rd which has left me pretty wiped out.

Yesterday was our first day at home since 20th. The house is still full of cases of dirty laundry, boxes of gifts, cards and decorations still up.. I've started tackling it very slowly but not expecting to make much of a dent until next week.

Invisablepanic · 02/01/2025 14:04

I'm tempted to just leave it but I also hate the thought of unexpected visitors when the house is in disarray. I need to sort new toys and games into their homes and I have bags of cardboard that won't fit in the bin.

Lndnmummy · 02/01/2025 14:05

I am in Christmas mode until Monday. My dc have an inset day on Monday and dh and I are off. We will use Monday to get the house reset and catch up on homework etc. Until then, it is still Christmas.

Samesame47 · 02/01/2025 14:05

No I deep clean as soon as I can after Xmas, decs all down and house has been back to normal since the weekend. I absolutely can’t live with mess or sit around watching crappy TV, I wish I could but I have an annoying inability to relax!! I am enjoying not being woken by the alarm though and getting up at 8 instead of 6.30 - I am unable to lie in as well, which is even more annoying than my inability to sit still for more than half an hour! You go for it though, I’m rather jealous 😬

QueenOfWeeds · 02/01/2025 14:06

Do it, OP. Another teacher here and it would normally be a twelfth night job, but we have friends staying this weekend and I’m in a new school so trying to have a clean slate and not leave it to the middle of the week.

Currently tidying away all the Christmas things and changing the guest bedding for the fourth time since the Christmas holidays started. I would like to live vicariously through you and your twinkly lights.

Jellycatspyjamas · 02/01/2025 14:09

I’m doing a basic tidy up today, putting gifts away etc. the kids are at their dads this weekend so I’ll do a full deep clean and take down decorations on Saturday.

GG1986 · 02/01/2025 14:11

Yup same here! We've all been ill and the house is a shithole! It can wait.

Judellie · 02/01/2025 14:13

I do feel similar in that I like the Christmas tree lights but cards are mostly down (partly as my birthday cards are up now) and most of the shower gel, soap etc that came as presents have been taken out of their boxes and cleared away into the bathroom.
Some stuff is still around tho. Also love scrabble btw x

Silvers11 · 02/01/2025 14:13

Yup! Still in Christmas mode until the weekend is over. Everything will come down on Monday!!

mamaduckbone · 02/01/2025 14:13

I'm half and half - we have sorted the dumping ground bedroom out and taken some decorations down, but the tree is still up.
I'm the same with food - sort of craving normal but there's loads of Christmas food around still. I just had poached eggs and avocado for lunch (normal) followed by Christmas rocky road which is still lurking

Nannyfannybanny · 02/01/2025 14:15

Haha, looks like you're in a minority. We usually put the decorations away new years eve, but DD and dgks came for lunch and present swap yesterday. Done now and vacuuming the dog hairs. Done the sofa covers and washing,it's all on the line, sunny and blooming cold wind.

midgetastic · 02/01/2025 14:17

Winter is long - enjoy Christmas whilst you can.

Let DH tackle the clearing if it makes him feel better

biscuitsandbooks · 02/01/2025 14:19

We're doing a mixture - lots of lie ins and lazy days, but the house is clean and tidy and we're keeping on top of laundry etc.
