Leaving the house in disarray till Monday.

Am still in Christmas mode.
Sleeping in until 10am (have teens) chocolates for lunch etc.

DH said about us attempting to tackle the bedroom today (it was thw dumping ground over xmas) but I said I want to just leave it al until the kids are back at school and I will tackle it all then.

Am obviously doing the normal daily stuff, bits and bobs, kitchen etc

But until Monday I just want to keep the Christmas lights on and watch crappy TV and play scrabble

Anyone else feel the same?

Decorations and tree were gone on Monday, house has been completely cleaned (twice since Monday), so completely back to normal.

My OH is back at work today and I'm not until Monday, so cleaning gave me something to do this morning. Glass of wine and three episodes of Wheeler Dealers this afternoon 🤣

I'll have to clean my car tomorrow as taking the eldest back to Uni on Saturday, will then make five pasties, each one for tea and one for eldest to take with him on Saturday. Love a homemade pasty.

SusanSHelit · 02/01/2025 17:28

I've kept my tree and decorations up but I blitzed the laundry today (as I had roundly ignored it for the last two weeks). Still have another couple of loads to get through but I'm surrounded by wet washing. The rest is contained in laundry baskets and I'm going to continue ignoring the bedding that needs changing. I have a tumble dryer winging its way to me but won't be here for another week.

The surfaces all got a bit of a dust and various gift bags have been tidied away and homes found for all of the presents.

The tree got tidied up a bit (cat thinks it's her toy). The scattered piles of chocolate and sweets are now concentrated into one large gift box.

The floors have been cleaned, and so has the kitchen and bathroom.

Ds11 has helped massively so we are getting KFC for tea; also because I don't want to do any more cleaning so I'm not cooking! I might also finish off the last of the baileys tonight, there isn't a lot left.

It still looks festive but it looks and feels an awful lot better.

I worked over Christmas (nhs) but I'm off until the 7th now so I'm having a bit of a delayed /extended liminal Christmas binge as I was working Christmas eve, boxing day, and nye, plus a few other days in between.

Bryonyberries · 02/01/2025 17:31

I've been back at work today but that has been me up until today. The Christmas decorations are still up though until the weekend. It was so gloomy here yesterday I didn't want to take the light down.

Whoarethoseguys · 02/01/2025 17:32

Yes. I will sort everything out when I take the tree down after 12th night

Topsy44 · 02/01/2025 17:41

I love this in between time when there is no pressure to do anything!

Last 2 days have stayed in pjs and DD12 and I have watched films and eaten the last of the Xmas chocs. I had a rare burst of energy for an hour or so this afternoon when I got a couple of bits of housework done but apart from that has been a lovely lazy few days!!

1AngelicFruitCake · 02/01/2025 17:52

Half and half.
I've not been well so washing has piled up so it's nice to start clearing the mess that has accumulated.
I'm trying to put presents in rooms, sort out the treat food but I love the tree and lights being up.
I love being in pyjamas with cosy socks and watching TV😊

christmaslatte · 02/01/2025 17:58

The tree will be up till 12th night (Jan 5th) as is traditional!

Currently enjoying a lovely break, still finishing off Christmas chocolates, panettone, cheese, etc and generally lounging about.

I am going to start cleaning tomorrow but only as I'm back to work on Monday.

Leaving it till the DC go back if you can is a great idea IMO.

Ignore the joyless people here, Christmas was traditionally a 12 day feast, we're only 9 days in!

Crunchymum · 02/01/2025 17:58

The Council aren't even collecting trees until Monday (we can leave ours out to be recycled on normal recycling day) so it's either toss it out and see it all forlorn and sad in the front garden for 4 days or leave it up.

Luminousnose · 02/01/2025 18:03

Everything still up here. But fairly tidy, at least downstairs (spare room is another matter entirely as all the decs boxes are in there). Will take most stuff down at the beginning of the week, but tree will stay up until it starts to look pretty tired - don’t think it’ll make it until Candlemass, but another week or so. We always have a real tree and I feel an obligation to my tree to let it shine for as long as possible! (Absolutely ridiculous I know). Other decs will come down gradually next week. There aren’t masses as we tend to go fairly low key. Used to have a lot more, but DD is 24 now.

Still building Lego, playing games and eating chocolate, but overly Christmassy TV feels a bit weird now. This happens to me every year - there are lots of things I plan to watch, but as soon as Boxing Day arrives, nope!

EmuFace · 02/01/2025 18:08

OP, I am also a teacher. Back Monday. Currently quaffing gin looking at my lovely tree (because I didn’t decorate it for a few days when DH put it up as I’d forgotten I’d taken my fairy lights into school for a display Hmm) and will get my arse into gear on Saturday. The absolutely bloody drudgery of term time means I am doing my best to feel zero guilt!

Deargodletitgo · 02/01/2025 18:10

Back at work Monday so been doing some jobs like sorting out the airing cupboard. I find being productive makes me feel good, so it balances out the sitting around eating chocolates. Also started my fitness habit pre new years.

EmuFace · 02/01/2025 18:11

OP, just realised you’re not a teacher. Conflating with a PP. Too much gin quaffing Grin

PullTheBricksDown · 02/01/2025 18:11

GiddyRobin · 02/01/2025 14:26

Not the OP, but I WFH which is another major reason to keep it festive here. I tidied it early a few years ago and felt so glum, sat there missing my candles and fairylights. The kids love coming home after school to it, too, and DH is just as Christmas-mad as me. 😂

Same here, I'm hybrid working and will be wfh Monday so won't be taking anything down till then.

It's nice to wring as much of the festivities out of the season as you can! January can be long, it's not an inherently bad month or anything, it's just the getting back into the swing of things that can be a bit meh. Always find it easier to slowly acclimatise to moving seasons (not that it really is...it's still winter!) than diving in. Plus, it's still dark and cold so a bit of cosy can't be a bad thing. 😄

LifeOfBriony · 02/01/2025 18:48

Trying to keep the feeling! I love the tree with its pretty lights (we have a small one in our dining room this year which is where I work when I wfh). I’m back at work tomorrow, going in to the office, and it will be nice to come home to the decorations and lights. I’ll probably take the cards down on Saturday and the trees on Sunday. The house always looks so bare after it all comes down.

ElderLemon · 02/01/2025 22:03

I'm in Christmas mode till Sunday. Will take it all down then, back to work Monday.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 02/01/2025 22:26

Till Sunday. After the tree is out and the decs are packed away I like to leave a string of lights round the mantelpiece. They will highlight the daffodils.

CandlesClementines · 02/01/2025 22:32

Definitely still going very strong here!!

Dec's won't be down for some weeks yet

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 02/01/2025 22:41

Christmas officially ends after the Epiphany on 6th. That's the earliest decorations come down and diets/dry Jan starts!

deathofadiscodancer888 · 02/01/2025 22:46

This was the state of our Christmas tree this morning! It had to go!

Took down all the inside decorations and spent about an hour hoovering up the piles of needles Grin

Had a good clean up, but all the outside lights will be coming down over the weekend. DH needs to get his big ladders out!

Leaving the house in disarray till Monday.
Davros · 02/01/2025 23:44

@gmgnts yes, goats do eat Christmas trees. Our local city farm collects them every year for a donation. I have paid extra this year for a special message from the goats to DD (she's 21!)

tree down on sunday is the plan

Crackers4cheese · 03/01/2025 07:29

we have a lovely tree with lots of decorations, new home made ones, so it would be a shame to bring it down too soon.

Flidina · 03/01/2025 08:55

Christmas well and truly done here!, tree was down and everything Christmas packed away on 27th December, deep clean done, all Xmas food etc eaten , back to healthy eating. I dislike starting the New Year , without a sense of normality, and everything organized.
