Leaving the house in disarray till Monday.

Am still in Christmas mode.
Sleeping in until 10am (have teens) chocolates for lunch etc.

DH said about us attempting to tackle the bedroom today (it was thw dumping ground over xmas) but I said I want to just leave it al until the kids are back at school and I will tackle it all then.

Am obviously doing the normal daily stuff, bits and bobs, kitchen etc

But until Monday I just want to keep the Christmas lights on and watch crappy TV and play scrabble

Anyone else feel the same?

The cleaners have been today but Christmas decorations still up until the weekend. Going to eek out these last full days before we are all back to work / college etc.
Eating up the last of the Christmas food before the healthy shop on Sunday.

gingercat02 · 02/01/2025 16:31

I'm stealth tidying. So every time I go upstairs, something comes with me. The kitchen and fridge are pretty much done. Wiped the bathrooms and cleaned the toilets.
I'm back at work on Monday, so it needs to be back to normal by then.
Dec's can stay until Sunday

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 02/01/2025 14:22

Do you not work OP? I want it all gone by Sunday as I'm back to work on Monday but if I didn't have a job to go back to I'd be the same as you

I've worked every day over the festive period but my decs will stay up until the last minute and I'm going easy on house clearing. It's still Christmas for us, housework can take a backseat.

Feellikeafailurenow · 02/01/2025 16:33

I’m the same just now but won’t wait until Monday. Will make a start tomorrow on trees & bits so down by saturday but will sort garage where everything is dumped when the kids go back to school. Sleeping later & eating all over the place as well as living in pjs 80% of the time & eating up the last of the Chirstmas food at least until tomorrow. Sat / Sun will aim for more realistic bed and wake up times & eating patterns for going back to school & i’ll do a mini shop at the weekend for fruit for lunch but a full on big shop is getting left until they are back at school too. I like tree up etc til new year & everyone gets a bit lost on those days in between christmas & new year but the 3rd is usually my cut off point & tidy / sort in prep for going back to school.

No, I don't work. I'm severely disabled and unable to.

I think someone was also hinting I'm drunk, I don't drink, I never have done, It would be extremely unsafe for me.

I'm taking the tree down today because it's being collected tomorrow to feed the goats at the local city farm. Everything else will stay until Monday

Do goats eat Christmas trees??? (I don't think so)

XmasHat · 02/01/2025 16:42

And as someone who is disabled perhaps the lazy comments got to me a little as I do have a complex about feeling like a drain on society and generally useless so that's probably why I reacted strongly to those comments.

No, I can participate in many ways! That's a very old fashioned way of thinking about disabled people.
My teens will be in school Monday.

We've had a very rough year and I just wanted to hold onto the Christmas feeling as long as possible

Op- I'm NOT disabled and still have all the decorations up, chocolates to hand at all time and Christmas films on. Yesterday I didn't get dressed all day- spent the entire day on the sofa with a duvet and a box of Lindor.
Enjoy it!!

stargirl1701 · 02/01/2025 16:55

Twelfth Night is Sunday, I think. Christmas shall be enjoyed until then here! We've got folk coming for lunch tomorrow.

Nothing wrong with that, OP. I'll join you in chocolate and mince pie eating, and have a Bailey's on your behalf. Nowt wrong with a bit of festive cheer in my opinion. We keep going with it too because we wait for it for ages, and then want to enjoy it!

FWIW my DH is partially disabled too, and I know what you're saying. He feels the same. ❤️🎄

WhatIDoIsEnough · 02/01/2025 16:56

I can't stand anything out of place and can't relax until it's straight. So would be a hard no from me. However I wish I could leave it longer

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/01/2025 16:56

We got back from holiday yesterday and now the tree is down and everything tidied

SJM1988 · 02/01/2025 17:06

I would have if I hadn't been back at work Monday this week. I straighten the house saturday/sunday then been slowing taking down decorations with the majority done NYD.
Only the tree to take outside- i bare bar the lights but that will be done this weekend.

Viserall · 02/01/2025 17:15

I’m still in Christmas mode too until Monday🎅🏼 it’s my favorite time of the year so I like to milk it for as long as I can

MermaidEyes · 02/01/2025 17:16

I know! I think it’s the Christmas exhaustion and dark mornings? I am contemplating melatonin tonight.

Yes I think you're right, definitely the dark mornings, plus no one on my street seems to go to work over Christmas so there's no early morning cars coming and going which probably helps.

Paradoes · 02/01/2025 17:20

dont worry about anyone else op and enjoy this lovely time of the year !! January is dull enough as it is and if it suits you better to take down Monday then that’s a good plan

wishing you better health in 2025

Do goats eat Christmas trees??? (I don't think so)

According to an advert on my FB they do, I'm assuming it was real.

OP I'm with you, doing jigsaws, playing board games and binge watching tv series' with ds. But I'm very definitely lazy when it come to cleaning at any time of the year. I do have good intentions for 2025 though....

MonopolyQueen · 02/01/2025 17:22

If you can’t be a lazy fattie at Christmas, when can you?!

I say go for it. I’m working and feeling super jealous of you!

LuluBlakey1 · 02/01/2025 17:22

I did it today. DH took 3 DC out for a long walk and a fish and chip stop and visit to PIL . Meanwhile, I have taken all the decs down, and the tree and packed everything up, put the boxes away, cleaned the floors and dusted downstairs and sorted the fridge out, changed the beds and tidied away properly everything we'd shoved into one of the spare rooms to get it out of sight. Back to a normal house.

Extraenergyneeded · 02/01/2025 17:23

We have guests this weekend.

CremeEggThief · 02/01/2025 17:24

I would be exactly the same as you OP, if I were at home and not on holiday. If you have the time off, chill and enjoy.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 02/01/2025 17:26

I have been off work from 20th until today so if I wasn't back at work I would be right there with you! As I knew I wouldn't get any time when they're back at school as I'll be working, I got up early on NYE (in bed till 10 every other day like you!) and I went to Aldi, did a food shop for packed lunches and NYE buffet early doors, then made myself stay on my feet and put all the deca away and had a couple of hours tidying......then sat down with the Quality Street!. Our cleaner has been today while I was back at work so I have come home from work today feeling like im kind of on top of everything. But apart from that one burst of activity I have been doing the same as you for almost 2 weeks and I would prolong as long as possible if I could. I have loved it! If you have time at home when the kids go back to school I would do the same as you.

MrsMontyD · 02/01/2025 17:26

I had a tidy up between Christmas and New Year, presents put away etc. The tree and decorations will be put away this weekend.

I was back at work today and would have preferred to do it beforehand but I bowed to pressure.
