Am still in Christmas mode.
Sleeping in until 10am (have teens) chocolates for lunch etc.

DH said about us attempting to tackle the bedroom today (it was thw dumping ground over xmas) but I said I want to just leave it al until the kids are back at school and I will tackle it all then.

Am obviously doing the normal daily stuff, bits and bobs, kitchen etc

But until Monday I just want to keep the Christmas lights on and watch crappy TV and play scrabble

Anyone else feel the same?

I've been slowly taking stuff down today, there's just a lot to fit back in the boxes. Its a mind numbingly boring job and I cba'd

House is a complete shit tip and I've been doing bits here and there also but again cba'd

GiddyRobin · 02/01/2025 14:19

I'm with you, OP! We've just got back to the UK after spending the holidays with family in Norway. I'm leaving the decs up until Candlemas, and we're not tidying anything until Monday either. We've just come home, got the pets, and now we're in pj's and opening the treats. It's still Christmas here as far as I'm concerned, and I'm keeping it going through miserable January, too. Sparkly lights and a bit of cheer. Yes please!!

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 02/01/2025 14:22

Do you not work OP? I want it all gone by Sunday as I'm back to work on Monday but if I didn't have a job to go back to I'd be the same as you

Bigearringsbigsmile · 02/01/2025 14:23

Still Christmas until Sunday.
House is so cosy and twinkly- am loathe to take anything down.

Sunholidays · 02/01/2025 14:24

Xmas here until 6th Jan. The house is tidy, though!

The only thing I am putting away today is the xmas lights in the front yard. They are all over the place due to high winds in the last couple of days.

AyrnotAir · 02/01/2025 14:24

I couldn't deal with mine anymore and had to tackle it all yesterday as it was the first day I had with no plans. I'm back to work tomorrow though then back Monday so would prefer to have the place tidy and organised over the weekend and before work. It's entirely up to you. It was great waking up today with the place all tidy and normal. I will take the decorations down on Sunday though, not ready for them to be gone just yet.

I'm done with Christmas now - I love it but I'm always glad to get back to normal just after NY. Decs down, tree going in the garden later so DH can chop it up. Leftover chocs and biscuits not opened are going in the wardrobe to be forgotten about for a few weeks at least! I'm craving salad 😂

I'm a bit like this. Love Christmas but as soon as January rolls round it's over and into a new year. My tree and decorations are all down and everywhere hoovered and polished, although I'm still burning my pretty candles. We have tons of unopened chocolates and biscuits which I've stored all in use by date order in the garage 😆
I have kids in their late teens so I think it's always easier to keep the house tidier as all the gifts end up in their rooms, unlike when you have small kids and there's toys everywhere. But I am still finishing off the cheese and peanuts and binging Netflix!

Not the OP, but I WFH which is another major reason to keep it festive here. I tidied it early a few years ago and felt so glum, sat there missing my candles and fairylights. The kids love coming home after school to it, too, and DH is just as Christmas-mad as me. 😂

AuntieGrizelda · 02/01/2025 14:35

I am back in work today but WFH. I take the Christmas stuff down gradually after Boxing Day but will have it all boxed away ready to go in the loft by Sunday.

The worst part for me is pre-Christmas decorating. I have to clear an area for the tree and take stuff out of the dining room to make more space for Christmas Day. This all ends up in our bedroom as we don't have a spare room. Doing this moving stuff about about routine makes me realise that I actually need to have a proper declutter and get rid of some stuff.

Bogginsthe3rd · 02/01/2025 14:44

We are going on for another week at least. Work are happy with wfh straight after the new year so I'll be keeping then Xmas lights on and roasting another Turkey this weekend for the whole family. Luckily wfh means I can continue to stay in bed with the chocs (and laptop) until mid day. If no meetings in this slow period I'll just close my eyes and nap!

Wexone · 02/01/2025 14:45

Am half and half- Back to work today, but WFH and its fairly quite with not many in so getting some admin done. Will be logging off shortly but gradually taking decorations down, have himself prepped for weekend to takes trees down and load up decorations to attic. Still watching some xmas TV and eating crap, but house is fairly tidy, we had lots of visitors so had to get the place some way right, easing my self gradually back to normality

Ilovegermany · 02/01/2025 14:48

Leave it.
I am waiting until Saturday. I have worked between Christmas and New year with ‘flu as everyone else in the team was off.
I have no energy but have next week off.

buttercupcake · 02/01/2025 14:49

It’s still Christmas in our house! Watched Home Alone and Elf this morning and we’re on our third Christmas puzzle.

Still enjoying the cheese & chocolate, the tree and all the decorations are still up. Won’t take anything down for at least another week 😂

Northerngal1974 · 02/01/2025 14:55

We normally take decroations down on New Years Eve but with us having a short working week and then a weekend before 6th January, we decided to leave them up and take them down on Saturday/sunday.

huuskymam · 02/01/2025 14:55

I did my bedroom on st Stephens day, couldn't get it it before Christmas because a third of the room was taken up with boxes and bags of presents and clothes for everyone, the only non believer we have is my 1 year old grand daughter so no snooping went on.

Peridot1 · 02/01/2025 14:57

We had family staying over NY and they left this morning. I have tidied and done some washing and vacuumed a bit and cleaned the kitchen but it’s definitely still Christmas otherwise.

Hoping to get the boxes down from the loft to start putting decorations etc away over the weekend.

comedycentral · 02/01/2025 15:03

Everyone has their own pace. I like to tidy up as soon as the Christmas hosting is over, so it was Sunday the 29th for me. Back at work today, and the kids are back at school next week. My sleep pattern is still in Christmas mode, though! I couldn't sleep early last night, could barely stay asleep, and didn't want to get up!

Enjoy it whilst you can 🎄

Floofle · 02/01/2025 15:11

I would have loved to but we're back at work today and had a house viewing so had to tidy and clean for that! Decorations and tree are still up though, and I bought myself discounted mince pies from co-op this morning lol!

Winterskyfall · 02/01/2025 15:17

Nope, it drives me crazy when the house is in a state for days on end.

OurDreamLife · 02/01/2025 15:20

Yes and no. I’ve been keeping on top of mine in bursts but then relaxing when it’s all tidy.

Delatron · 02/01/2025 15:25

No I’ve started to tackle everything today as I’ve had enough! Tree down. Went to the tip. I also don’t feel particularly healthy. Eating crap and my body clock has gone to pot. Can’t get to sleep at night yet in a very deep sleep at 8.30am!

I need to get back to a routine and normality. Starting to get up earlier and go for a run. Otherwise next week will be brutal.

Delatron · 02/01/2025 15:25

Oh we also have house viewing so it needed to be done!

Imfineitsfine · 02/01/2025 15:25

Of course! Enjoyp

MermaidEyes · 02/01/2025 15:28

What is it about Christmas sleep being all over the place?! We have other half terms and school holidays when the alarm isnt set, but somehow still manage to get to sleep and wake up ok. But Christmas time rolls round and it's just insomnia central lol!

RawBloomers · 02/01/2025 15:29

In our household everyone’s off until Tuesday, so we’re keeping up the Christmas routine until then. I’m not working at the moment though, so can tackle all the disarray when everyone goes back to their workday routines. If I had a job to go to, I’d be sorting the house out over the weekend and prepping for the return. I like those first days back to be a bit of a treat themselves, not a huge anti-climax after the holiday.
