Anyone else feeling really unwell?

Oh my, I started with a standard cold last week, developed into dizziness, chills and aches and constant streaming eyes and nose. I felt like I’d been hit with a baseball bat - back and torso were so sore

Now onto night sweats, green gunky cough, horrible sinus pain, continuing aches and shivers. Constant thirst. It hurts to wear clothes, it hurts to do anything. I’ve suggested cancelling Christmas lunch tomorrow but DH not listening. Had a full on sob on my 11yr old this morning.

Anyone else just feeling dreadful and fancy a moan?

DD2 (17) is unwell again. She had covid in October half term and now has fever, fatigue, breathlessness. Her HR is up. I'm keeping an eye.

mrsmacmc · 29/12/2024 20:49

The 2024 Christmas lurgy has caught me. Feeling absolutely rotten, stuffed up especially sinuses and body aches 🤒 🤧 I think 'D'H is ground zero - usual tricks aren't working and just want to crawl into bed and not move 🫠

HorrorFan81 · 29/12/2024 20:52

My family have all been ill for weeks with overlapping lurgy and it's finally caught me. Bad throat, sinuses, head, body aches, chills and generally feeling awful. Hoping to be better by NYE have fun plans 😪

Day 12 for me, just been to the doctor because I woke up with new pain in one lung, just as I thought I was getting there. Pleurisy or a blood clot, hopefully pleurisy Grin

AmyW9 · 30/12/2024 12:28

Also caved in and visited the doctor. Looking like an infection in my right lung. Feeling rather validated and as if I can finally justify leaving my toddler with my husband while I lie down quietly 🤣

Quite relived as I'd been awake for hours last night concerned about reduced movements from my baby (29 weeks today) and on the cusp of going to triage. Luckily they picked up, but that's also pushing me to actually get some damn rest.

Xiaoxiong · 30/12/2024 13:00

It's been almost 3 weeks now and I'm still in agony after every bowel movement. I can't believe I can survive this level of pain, it's like having a baby every day and it's completely ruined everyone's Christmas, I feel absolutely so guilty and miserable.

We're away for new year and not home until Friday - I've been to urgent care who sent me to A&E because of the amount of bleeding and all they said is sit on a bag of ice, anusol cream, and wait it out. I want to go home but that would upset the rest of my family even more than I already have.

I'm trying to eat high fibre everything, taking lactulose, drinking water, gentle walking but the fear of going to the loo is so intense I can't think of anything else. Can't have any painkillers stronger than paracetamol as it's constipating. And everything I read on here about people who have had treatments for piles say having surgery is worse than the illness so just try and manage but I'm not managing.

Just at the end of my tether really 😭

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/12/2024 13:10

I was starting to feel a bit better, still coughing and getting tired easily but better. Then I fell over and buggered my knee! I'm now coughing, knackered and can't walk properly 🙄

kessiebird · 31/12/2024 21:59

I've eaten a full plate of food for the first time since 7th December. Still clogged up with phlegm but it's bearable. My dsis who I thought I'd caught this from is now on antibiotics. It's been over a month for her.

MsGoodenough · 01/01/2025 13:04

Hoping to find a comforting hug in this thread. I've struggled terribly with my mental health this year, then started to feel slightly better then struck down with physical bug. Can't function and can't stop crying. Should be working today (planning for new term on Monday (teacher) but I can't do it. Worst symptom is swallowing is agony. Awake all night bracing myself for the next swallow.

TheMousePipes · 01/01/2025 13:29

We've all been ill since the beginning of December. Still nauseous, still struggling with fatigue, still coughing crap up. Christmas was very quiet and we're away woth friends for NY who also have the same virus so we're having a very quiet week. Pretty much everyone I know has had it now. Calippo ice lollies are my handy hint - sugar, cold, fresh, can get in despite the nausea. This sucks.

user1499848 · 01/01/2025 17:21

@MsGoodenough a big hug from me. It's poo isn't it. I'm rather depressed as well, then Christmas, which should have cheered us all up, just didn't. Everything seems shit in the news and the weather is rubbish too. I know most teachers will go to work with their leg hanging off (I'm a teacher as well) but rest this one out and try to get a bit better. Find a nice distraction for the day. Remember the days are getting longer and you will get better, even if it doesn't seem possible now.

Witchywoo41 · 01/01/2025 19:03

Can I join the thread please? I’ve been ill since Boxing Day, I’m so fed up, the cough is relentless and swallowing is pure hell, I can now feel some sort of weird lump in the bottom of my throat. I haven’t slept for 5 nights I don’t even go to bed. This is the worse bug I’ve ever had! I’m sorry so many others are struggling!

AInightingale · 01/01/2025 19:58

Yes, had this for a fortnight today and swallowing is still an issue. My throat feels extremely dry no matter how much water I drink. And the all-day nausea was a weird symptom too. Whatever strain of flu this is, it's odd. Btw, i was embarrassingly old before I realised that painkillers actually help with sore throats, they take the edge off a bit.

popandchoc · 01/01/2025 20:01

On day 6 of illness here. My throat has been so sore today and head killing. Eased a tiny bit this evening but my nose is feeling stuffed up.

hagchic · 02/01/2025 16:47

@Xiaoxiong Quite late to add this and hope you're much better but did they tell you if you had a strangulated haemorrhoid? The level of pain and ?bleeding you're describing sounds like it.

Did they give you any follow up? The types of possible treatment are listed here

Got ill the Saturday before Christmas with the cough version and high temperature. Actually felt I turned a corner today, and didn’t feel so lethargic and lazy. I think the crisp, blue winter sky helped.

HorrorFan81 · 12/01/2025 18:35

Anyone else still feeling really ill from Xmas lurgy? I got ill on boxing day, mainly ear, nose, throat, body aches and chills, severe fatigue. Didn't have a temp or cough

Still feeling awful. Sinuses congested, chest kind of hurts but no cough, bad throbbing headache and awful fatigue. Have a history of ME/CFS (been in remission for 12+) months and trying not to panic about a relapse, but whatever bug I had just seems to be dragging on and on

user1499848 · 13/01/2025 20:08

@HorrorFan81 just tiredness here, my colleague the same 5 weeks after they came down with it.

AInightingale · 13/01/2025 21:23

Aching from head to foot today. Coming up to four weeks for me. Cough and sore throat nearly gone but it seems a long recovery.

DrCoconut · 13/01/2025 21:30

I have a hacking cough that I just can't shake off. It started with laryngitis at the start of December where I almost completely lost my voice and have not really recovered properly. I'm just coming to the end of a course of antibiotics and finished steroids yesterday (cough was slightly better while on them). I've been referred for an x ray. It's driving me mad and I've had as much time off work as I can without starting the first stage of disciplinary. It's worrying, especially as a single parent who needs to be well for the kids.

HorrorFan81 · 14/01/2025 11:19

Just been to dr and she thinks sinusitis and have got antibiotics. Hopefully they will help with recovery. Also got a fit note for wfh and reduced hours so plan on sleeping every afternoon 😴

CalicoPusscat · 14/01/2025 11:30

It's really hard when you can't quantify what it is as there are so many things going around.

I have an underlying health condition and am apparently high risk but I was under the weather over Xmas/January period and am pretty sure it's just lack of sunlight and some undefined lurgy. The boring thing is just to get loads of warm fluids and rest up until it's over. I can't take NSAID drugs and will have to check with GP if paracetamol is OK. But aside from that hot honey, ginger and lemon.

SilviaDaisyPouncer · 14/01/2025 11:32

I had COVID, tested positive for it.

I'm mostly recovered but I do feel run down. I've still been getting deafness so I'm on antibiotics at the moment because the GP could see fluid behind my ears. He says I've got eustachian tube dysfunction, which is a fancy way of saying your head is full of goo.

hiyadon · 14/01/2025 11:35

Raging sore throat and earache with stuffed up nose and heavy chest for nearly 2 weeks. Waking up at 3am with bad throat pain and earache. Just spoke to the pharmacist who said most likely flu/viral.

I have asthma and have had pneumonia in the past.

Bed rest, painkillers and fluids. It's really dragging on.
