Anyone else feeling really unwell?

Oh my, I started with a standard cold last week, developed into dizziness, chills and aches and constant streaming eyes and nose. I felt like I’d been hit with a baseball bat - back and torso were so sore

Now onto night sweats, green gunky cough, horrible sinus pain, continuing aches and shivers. Constant thirst. It hurts to wear clothes, it hurts to do anything. I’ve suggested cancelling Christmas lunch tomorrow but DH not listening. Had a full on sob on my 11yr old this morning.

Anyone else just feeling dreadful and fancy a moan?

I've had it all month. It's Covid in my case.

I'm significantly better than I was, but I'm still getting headaches and nausea. I was struggling to sleep last night because I was feeling sick.

I'm no longer coughing up golf balls of muck though so that's something.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 25/12/2024 11:34

To all those poorly. I work in an A&E. Lots of swabs have come back as Flu A recently so it’s obviously doing the rounds as is RSV/covid. Most of the staff have come down with horrible viruses too the last couple of months. Mine really lingered and then i got another back to back and im rarely ill.

Lots of fluids, paracetamol/ibruprofen as needed. Keep those sugars up with whatever you choose to eat and drink. Lots of rest. If you feel like it’s caused a chest infection seek medical advice.

Never been unwell on Xmas before and it is thoroughly unpleasant so thinking of you all. I’m into week 6 so the run up to Xmas didn’t happen at all, though I am at least feeling slightly more human and can eat today. Thoughts with everyone suffering and hope you can make the best of a bad situation in whatever way today….

The nausea is insane… never known anything like it with a virus before… horrid.

Also awful. Constant sneezing, shivers, ear ache. It's horrid.

TheBunyip · 25/12/2024 19:15

yuletide spewers (thanks usernumbers, that made me laugh ) what is good to eat? It’s been 4 days now since I’ve kept anything down and I’m not sure if I’m even still ill or just on the verge of malnutrition. There is. Literally nothing I fancy eating

Fireworknight · 25/12/2024 19:40

Haven’t had the voniting bug but The food I’ve managed to eat.

Scrambled egg on toast
jam on toast
plain toast

Just had some trifle and that went down a treat.

If you are nausea is, try ginger nut biscuits, ice lollies, flat coke etc. little and often. Also, dioralyte.

Hard to tell sometimes isn’t it.

Ive only spewed once but generally I find flat lemonade good. Salty crackers. Squash. Things to boost electrolytes.

Hope you’re all seeing some improvement.

Yesterday was awful, I missed the whole day. DH did it all. Kids have been wonderfully understanding.

I managed to get a private GP appointment who had prescribed some things and DH is now on the hunt for open pharmacy that will take a private prescription. The Dr was kind and sympathetic, not your usual NHS style of disbelief (maybe I always just feel this rather than them doing this) The kindness and sympathy was lovely in itself along with the offer of some help being on its way.

Let’s hope the worst is behind us and we’re all better soon Flowers

So glad that you've managed to get some medication. Just hope that your DH manages to find a Pharmacy.

It must have been awful missing Christmas Day with your DC Flowers

I've been improving day by day and rallied enough to host yesterday but I paid for it last night with headaches, sweats and genders lit feeling quite unwell again. Planning a sofa day today or I'll never be well enough for work on Monday.

The aches are away now and not as tired. I don't know whether I feel vaguely sick because I'm hungry, I'm not hungry, I've made my stomach worse by coughing or what. Ugh make it go away...I can't even speak without coughing

Yep, know that feeling.

Got up and felt shakey today, so drank some orange juice. Tasted lovely. Then had jam on toast. Felt I needed the sugar today.

I’m like this too. When do you think the nausea will go? I’m so fed up. I’m in my 6th week now. Still taking decongestants. What an awful strain of Covid this must be!

AInightingale · 26/12/2024 16:11

I had the sickness Monday/ Tuesday and glands up today and a sore throat AGAIN. I overdid it yesterday doing Christmas dinner, washing up, tidying and all the hassles of that...as flu bugs go this is a horrid one, seems never ending. Just realised I could have had a free jab as am a carer...the kids are fine but they had the vaccine in school last month.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/12/2024 23:48

I'm still deaf in one ear so put an econsult in.

The gp called back and asked me to go in. Diagnosed me with what I'd come to the conclusion it was (eustacian tube disorder that can come with an upper respiratory tract infec) and prescribed steroid nose spray, which I've had before.

She also told me I could get it from the pharmacy, which I didn't know and was getting conflicting info when googling whether this was the case yesterday.

Apparently it can go on for 3 or 4 weeks, so hopefully the spray will help before that!

GP was also sitting there with a bottle of cough syrup, throat sweets and a pack of tissues next to her, so also suffering from a winter cold.

Tupperwarelid · 28/12/2024 13:24

I managed to get a gp appointment yesterday (I guess being type 1 diabetic has some benefits) and am now on antibiotics for a chest infection. I feel so worn out though, I can’t concentrate long enough to read , do a jigsaw or even concentrate on the television.

Hope you feel better soon. I couldn't even concentrate on the TV last weekend. I phoned 111 and they checked I was "born female" twice. I must have sounded so rough that she thought I was a bloke BlushGrin

Fireworknight · 28/12/2024 15:07

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today. Was supposed to be going out to a party tonight, and obviously can’t go. If I sit still, I don’t feel to bad. As soon as I move around, I get a horrible coughing fit, and sometimes feel washed out.

RelativePitch · 28/12/2024 17:07

Started feeling ropey and shivery on the 23rd was able to power on through Christmas. Went down hard on Boxing Day with a very high temp and aches. Cried a lot which is not like me. Rang GP yesterday morning at 8am and got an appointment at 8.30am where I was diagnosed with a chest infection and prescribed antibiotics. I have been lucky enough not to need a GP in 13 years and I am so grateful that I was seen so very, very quickly.

AmyW9 · 28/12/2024 22:25

Can I join? It's been a miserable Christmas! First our toddler was wiped by this hideous fluey coughing bug, now I've got it. Haven't slept in days.

Plus, being heavily pregnant, I can't take any medication and the baby's weight on my bladder plus coughing fits is just JOYFUL.

Counting down the days until work and nursery are back so I get a rest!!

PinkyGold · 28/12/2024 22:33

I've also been suffering since 17th December. Alternatively baking hot and shivering, can't breathe but nose running constantly. I feel like shit. Coughing like I'm smoking 50 a day. Aching all over. This is shit. I've had to cancel my Christmas plans and have seen no one because of this! 😩

RelativePitch · 29/12/2024 00:09

@PinkyGold if you're still burning up 11 days after having fallen ill, it sounds like you have may have an infection and need antibiotics.

AInightingale · 29/12/2024 00:09

The flu when you're pregnant is especially awful @AmyW9. I haven't had flu (until now) since 2010, when I had swine flu when expecting my son. Never felt so ill in my life. He was fine though.

I think you can take paracetamol when pregnant?

TinyMouseTheatre · 29/12/2024 10:15

I started my symptoms on Thursday 19th. Managed to get through a short shift on the Friday, just and have been ill ever since, although slowly improving.

Back in work tomorrow.

Merry Blimmin' Christmas Grin
