For me it's household bin liners, life is too short to faff around with splitting and leaking rubbish for the sake of saving 10p

Pampers nappies and water wipes, cheap nappies and wipes cause such a bad reaction to my toddler!

KnopkaPixie · 17/12/2024 19:28

I can't buy really sad looking eggs and very cheap chicken. I just can't.

Heating. I hate, hate, hate being cold and I refuse to dress like the Michelin Man in the comfort of my own home. Obviously if the time ever comes when it's a toss between heating and eating, then I'll have to think again but until then the heating goes on when I want it to.

SAME

Haircuts
Fabric conditioner
Pet care

Crazybaby123 · 17/12/2024 19:31

Housing and hotels. Prefer to live in a nice house and not holiday in a shit hole, everything else I switch brands and buy cheap as I can.

Allswellthatendswelll · 17/12/2024 19:32

Meat

I care a lot about animal welfare but practically could not be a vegetarian at the moment. So it's less and better quality (organic or free range at very least).

I also always try to buy organic eggs or from a local farm. Organic milk too where possible.

Shitlord · 17/12/2024 19:32

Good makeup, skin and haircare. Not fancy names for the sake of it but the best that works for me that I can afford. If it's the cheapest, great. If it's the priciest in my range, fine. I've tried enough options to know not to bother stinting on certain things. Foundation, waterproof mascara and eyeliner especially.

Quality cat food.

Sweaty Betty leggings

Good eco cleaning products, not greenwashed shite in plastic.

Old rugs

LoveHearts69 · 17/12/2024 19:33

Agree on bin bags!

We noticed supermarket quality of meat has really gone downhill, we now eat more veggie meals but get our chicken and mince from the local farm shop and the difference is amazing and worth the extra cost!

Also… Heinz baked beans and Green Giant sweetcorn!

WonderingWanda · 17/12/2024 19:34

Shampoo and conditioner
Teabags
Bread
Wine
Gin

DazedAndConfused321 · 17/12/2024 19:36

Healthcare, Education, and the very basics of life. If you use something everyday it should be good- mattress, shoes, coffee etc. When I first started to earn good money I made small changes to small things. Bought nice pans for cooking, better shoes, better bedlinens etc.

LimeLime · 17/12/2024 19:38

Glasses; they're on my face every waking minute so I pay for all the extras
Dentistry; I'm not scrimping on my health

Fairy liquid, no other will do
Ecover Zero laundry detergent, everything else makes me itch

Cardboardeaux · 17/12/2024 19:38

Tyres
Just not worth scrimping

I’ve been driving on the cheapest tyres o can get for 30 years. I’d consider spending a fortune on tyres a waste of money. Cheapest c£60, most expensive >£300. Crazy money for negligible difference, if you drive properly.

Wherewhatnow · 17/12/2024 19:40

Cheese, sausages, ice cream, dishwasher tablets and ketchup.

Ihateboris · 17/12/2024 19:40

As I love my sleep, it would have to be pillows and bedding. For the winter brushed cotton bedding is lovely, cosy and warm!

The tyres are the only thing between the car and the road... you should always get the best ones you can afford

RedRiverShore5 · 17/12/2024 19:42

Dentist, food, bin liners, I only use the JosephJoseph and Brabantia ones, footwear.

menopausalfart · 17/12/2024 18:30

Washing-up liquid, bog roll, bin bags.

The nicky toilet roll is excellent quality for the price imo. ( home bargains)

sHREDDIES19 · 17/12/2024 19:43

I’m pretty easy going and will wear second hand, buy cheaper alternatives etc. The only things I can think is butter (actual 100% and not stuff like Lurpak that’s blended with oils).

Copernicus321 · 17/12/2024 19:43

If I'm having a roast chicken on a Sunday, I buy a fresh free range corn fed variety. I know it's more than twice the price of a broiler but it actually tastes of chicken and doesn't have a skunky smell that most broilers tend to emit when they roast.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. I'm not above buying broiler chickens if I'm cooking a curry or throwing other strong flavours in.

Thingamebobwotsit · 17/12/2024 19:43

Outside of the big things like house etc, then every day items:

Tea
Heinz Ketchup
Bin bags
Honey
Meat and dairy
Hair products
Dog food

Things I don't consume a lot of but like to treat myself when I do:

Decent chocolate
Wine
Ice cream

Life.
Sex.

Widowtoo · 17/12/2024 19:48

Private healthcare. It’s non negotiable and I’d need to be destitute to not pay for it.

Agree on the dentist. I've always said "who wants a cheap dentist". If I have to have someone rooting around in my mouth with a sharp instrument, I want to know they are the best! I also want to know that the dentist is paid well enough so they don't feel they have to do unnecessary treatment in order to pay their bills.

I do appreciate I'm very lucky not to have to worry about paying....

Andnowshesatoddler · 17/12/2024 19:54

I don't scrimp on activities with my toddler, happy to scrimp if necessary on clothes especially for me but I want to get out and do things with my toddler.
