For me it's household bin liners, life is too short to faff around with splitting and leaking rubbish for the sake of saving 10p

Toilet rolls, shower products & children’s shoes.

Private healthcare. It’s non negotiable and I’d need to be destitute to not pay for it.

Actually considering this now but doubt I can afford it

Also insurance cover. When you need to claim on insurance, you NEED it and I think paying for a good level of cover and care is well worth it for that occasion that life has gone wrong and you need looking after.

Any recommendations

Violinist64 · 17/12/2024 22:38

Tea'and coffee.

DancingFerret · 17/12/2024 22:44

Butter: it has to be President semi-salted.
Good tyres.
Dental care.
Meat from a butcher I trust.
A really comfortable mattress.
Ethically-sourced goose down duvet.

Greengagesummer65 · 17/12/2024 22:45

Decent haircut.
Wont scrimp on good bread either, we make our own.
Organic chicken or no chicken.
Wool jumpers, nothing acrylic.
Tried living without a car for a bit but also something impossible to scrimp on.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 17/12/2024 22:54

Actual Coca Cola, you can’t beat it. The supermarket brands just don’t cut it and Pepsi is an absolute no as they are nothing alike… yes I’ve done the taste test several times and proved I know my coke.
heinz beans… for me there’s no beans that compare, tried all sorts as I’m a trier, but for me it’s gotta be Heinz.
mature, extra or vintage cheddar every time, non of this mild cheese bollox… it’s like rubber.
bisto gravy. On the occasion I don’t make my own it’s gotta be bisto. We tried supermarket own brand and it’s shit.
heinz tomato ketchup… my daughter can actually tell if you’ve tried to replace it, we’ve put a supermarket own brand in a Heinz bottle and she sussed it straight away.

Oh my gosh, laptop, yes.

I had a macbook and it broke so I got a Dell.
I gloated to DH how I'd saved so much money as I wasn't a sheep who only bought Apple.

I just couldn't get used to it. It felt like such a downgrade.

I had to sell it and buy another macbook :/

I don't know what bin bags are good. I'm in Ireland and I buy Killeen, but they're not brilliant. I have a Brabantia bin and in theory could buy the Brabantia bags but they're three times the price of supermarket ones and not all that easy to find. I lived in London for a long time and I can't remember what bin bags I used to buy there, probably Waitrose own brand, but they didn't split very often.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 17/12/2024 23:00

I won't go cheap on coffee, I buy monsoon Malabar beans from a smallish roastery and grind them myself.

Latenightreader · 17/12/2024 23:03

Georgyporky · 17/12/2024 19:17

What are bin bags used for?

The only mucky waste is food, & that goes in Council-supplied bio-degradable bags straight into the dedicated bin.
Not necessary to put anything else in bags - just adding to the overuse of plastic.

I thought that, then the binmen refused to empty my bin because I'd emptied my dustbuster directly into it rather than into a bag first...I had a tag attached to my bin to teach me the error of my ways... luckily I rarely vacuum so it isn't a problem frequently.

twohotwaterbottles · 17/12/2024 23:07

Brew Tea Co tea bags. I can't be without

rockingbird · 17/12/2024 23:07

Heating! I refuse to be cold in my own home.

Lurpak
Live music - I love going to see expensive bands in expensive locations.

You are my Mumsnet twin!

Ophy83 · 17/12/2024 23:12

Meat, fish and milk is all bought locally from the farm shop/fishmonger, along with seasonal veg. But butter has to be French! I get most other bits from Aldi, unless they don't have it, in which case it will probably be Waitrose

Crucible · 17/12/2024 23:13

Dog food. My two cost me more than my own grocery bill. See also, dog medication and Vet bills....

KohlaParasaurus · 17/12/2024 23:15

Coffee.
Digestive biscuits. It's McVities or nothing.
Running shoes.
Knitting yarn.

DumpedByText · 17/12/2024 23:26

Skincare, bin bags, coffee and cheese. The cheap mild plastic cheese is rank, give me a vintage cheddar any day!

Thatcastlethere · 17/12/2024 23:26

Bread!!
My DH drives me mental buying supermarket budget bread. It's completely inedible. I can't even use it for toast. So disgusting.
And slightly better bread is only like 20p more.
I do prefer really nice bread obviously but I can eat Warburtons and I can even eat the supermarket own version of that..
But it's the really cheap budget bread I just can't eat.. yet for the sake of a few p he buys it.
We aren't wealthy but we aren't poor. There's absolutely no need to buy inedible bread.
If I do the shopping I always get bakery bread.

overthinkersanonnymus · 17/12/2024 23:35

I only get meat from the butcher. It's more expensive but so much better.

Bleach. I hate cheep, thin bleach.

I pay a lot for my hair as well.

Other that that, I'm tight as a fishes arsehole

MustBeGinOclock · 17/12/2024 23:46

natwalesrug · 17/12/2024 23:53

Craftymam · 17/12/2024 23:58

Quite a lot of things I reckon.

Right now Waterproofs and walking boots are what’s jumping to mind.

DoYouReally · 18/12/2024 00:00

Insurance

Underwear
Tonic water
Time with friends/family

Simplepink · 18/12/2024 00:03
