For me it's household bin liners, life is too short to faff around with splitting and leaking rubbish for the sake of saving 10p

OP posts:

Tea bags and fabric softener

Frangywangywoowah · 17/12/2024 18:52

Good quality dog food for my allergic, sensitive boy! Saying that even at £85 quid a bag, he's only small and only costs 55p a day to feed!

Christmaseason · 17/12/2024 18:53

Holidays.

kelsaycobbles · 17/12/2024 18:53

Shoes - I need to get outside , I need exercising and if shoes don't fit well you end up hurt or injured

Smittenkitchen · 17/12/2024 18:54

Shoes! Not Jimmy choos or whatever the hell. Just good quality shoes that don't fall apart after a few wears. Cheap shoes are one of the worst culprits for being a false economy.

Riapia · 17/12/2024 18:58

Specs. My eyes are so important to me.

CandyStripedCottonBedsheet · 17/12/2024 18:58

I have to buy barefoot shoes. And that is because I physically cannot wear normal shoes now, my feet have become much healthier and splayed into a lovely natural shape since I started wearing barefoot shoes/boots. Cannot wear "normal" footwear now!

It is sometimes annoying that I can no longer cram them into any old shoe though. But it's worth it.

KimGa · 17/12/2024 18:59

Theatre seats - I don’t go often but it’s my great love, I look forward to seeing a show so much and I find sitting too far back is just too disappointing. I always buy in the top 2 price bands.

In contrast to previous poster, I have heating off all day wfh and am bundled up like the Michelin man!

Cheap sausages are also grim. Not exactly luxury but I always buy finest range at Tesco.

ImWearingPantaloons · 17/12/2024 19:00

Shoes and beds - you're always in one or the other

sloecat · 17/12/2024 19:00

Shoes
Glasses
Teeth

comoatoupeira · 17/12/2024 19:02

Never scrimp: Hair products, hosiery and socks, shoes, coffee, coat, waterproof gear, makeup that is a base, pasta, tinned tomatoes

Scrimp away: toilet paper, any makeup that goes on top (like eyeshadow), toys, kids clothes and craft stuff (Vinted), party dresses and wedding guest dresses (you only wear them once mostly), party shoes (they're uncomfortable however much you pay)

Bellyblueboy · 17/12/2024 19:04

Shoes, glasses, makeup, winter coats, mattresses

FknOmniShambles · 17/12/2024 19:05

Glasses
Hair colouring
Wine
PC
Makeup.

I don't necessarily buy the most expensive of these items - I just make sure I buy what I want withing my price range, and won't compromise what I want to save a few quid.

AhBiscuits · 17/12/2024 19:06

Dishwasher tablets. Cheap ones are just shit.

Cookerhood · 17/12/2024 19:06

Tyres
Just not worth scrimping

Msmoonpie · 17/12/2024 19:10

Heating. I spent years cold because I could t afford it and swore I never would be cold in my home again.

Private healthcare. Because I like not being treated like shit. Strangely enough when you are paying directly people tend to act better towards you and want to help instead of just wanting you to just go away.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 17/12/2024 19:11

Shampoo and vegetables.

fetchacloth · 17/12/2024 19:11

WiFi
Face serum
Granary bread (wholemeal doesn't cut it for me)
M&S green tea bags
Branded natural yoghurt

Georgyporky · 17/12/2024 19:17

What are bin bags used for?

The only mucky waste is food, & that goes in Council-supplied bio-degradable bags straight into the dedicated bin.
Not necessary to put anything else in bags - just adding to the overuse of plastic.

Purplecatshopaholic · 17/12/2024 19:17

Heating - refuse to be cold, it’s really bad for my mental as well as physical health.
The dentist - so important to look after your teeth.
Shoes, and make up - cheaper stuff is generally a false economy.

Blueberrycreampie · 17/12/2024 19:18

Supermarket. I go to Waitrose and avoid the others if I can as they're too noisy, crowded and I just prefer the food from Waitrose.

Falafelolive · 17/12/2024 19:19

Good coffee

DarkAether · 17/12/2024 19:20

food for the chickens

NancyBellaDonna · 17/12/2024 19:21

I'm a champion scrimper me but I can't scrimp on:

Haircut
Teabags
Art materials
Clothes (and shoes) - though most of my clothes are from Vinted but I do buy good quality
Meat/fish -I'd rather go without than buy cheap farmed or processed produce.

sinckersnack · 17/12/2024 19:24

Don't care about clothes or hair or car or holidays.
Won't scrimp on quality food, (proper food), dentist, kids' education.
