How long does you hairdresser take? I'm losing the will to live...

Firefly45 · 28/11/2024 21:13

I have shoulder length hair and have full head of highlights.
I'm in hairdressers for 3.5 to 4hrs!

My hairdresser works for herself with no juniors but she seems to book 2 people in so is constantly leaving one of us to do the other...she says ill cut her hair while yours is taking its colour. But it never works out like that..end up sitting around waiting for her to finish other woman or other woman waiting for me.

I've been coming to her years and feel like I'm in a relationship I can't get out of.

Just wondered if this is normal for hairdressers?

I do love my hair when it's finished!

I should add that I leave with wet hair (my choice) cos i can't bear waiting another 40min to dry it!

Jeez Louise. That's madness! You gave Stockholm syndrome.

Mydahliasareshit · 28/11/2024 21:17

This is exactly why I stopped going to salons. Mobile all the way now - it's in their interest to be efficient.

Highlights, lowlights, root touch-up, cut and blow dry. 1hr 45 minutes tops. And she does someone else while the colour takes. No apprentices or hair washers, etc. Last time we had a glass of wine as well.

EvilsElsasPetSnowman · 28/11/2024 21:19

Yep 4 hours here. My hairdresser is a genius so I won’t leave her but she’s so slooooow

EveryDayisFriday · 28/11/2024 21:19

My hair can take anywhere from 1.5hrs to 3hrs depending on how busy the salon is. I've learned not to book anything else in for a good few hours after my appt.

soupfiend · 28/11/2024 21:20

Well I was 2 hours today and thats neck length hair, not quite shoulder if you know what I mean. I wasnt waiting around for any particular gap in service if you like. So long hair, full head, probably sounds about right. Do some online shopping or something!

My hairdresser would lose her custom if she operated like that.

Perfectlystill · 28/11/2024 21:24

Mine takes about that. I love my hairdresser but getting my hair done is purgatory

Monstersmonkey · 28/11/2024 21:30

4 hours and it is so unbearable I’ve given up having colour. I can’t believe they haven’t developed a faster method of highlighting in the twenty years I’ve been having them done. Surely at this point in time we should be able to sit under a special machine for 15 minutes and come out good as new?
And the price , my goodness 😭

PlanningTowns · 28/11/2024 21:32

6 hours last visit but that was a colour correction plus cut. I’ve just moved from a place I’ve been going to for 25 years as my cut was amazing but my colour not going where I wanted it. New place is fab, local and she is a genius. She had no one else booked in when I was there!

Maybe next year robots will do it.
Like the Teminator but they do hair.

dementedpixie · 28/11/2024 21:33

Mine takes around 2-2½ hours for a full head of highlights. Includes cut and blow dry.

I'm a regular, I go every 3 weeks without fail. She's brilliant at hair and excellent value for money but a single hairdresser with up to 3 clients at time, I've learned to roll with it and that it could take a fair few hours.

I couldn't roll with that. I don't have enough spare time. My hairdresser is superb. And cheap for SW London. £180 every 7 weeks.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 28/11/2024 21:50

4 hours for me.

I have long hair, it's thin but I have tons of it. I have my mom's fine texture but my dad's massive mane. Lol

hennybeans · 28/11/2024 21:51

I have an above shoulders bob. Full head of highlights, cut and dry takes 2.5 hrs.

I think it actually could be faster if she didn't book another client in for the in between times, but they all book someone else in. Otherwise they'd be twiddling their thumbs for 30-40 min.

What does she do for that “ cheap” price?

Icanttakethisanymore · 28/11/2024 21:53

About 3 hrs for a full head of highlights

Namechangeobviously2024 · 28/11/2024 21:55

I gave up on salon colour because I could no longer tolerate them wasting my time. I do my own at home now (takes about 40 minutes, including 20 mins sitting around) and just go to the salon for a trim.

Caffeineismydrug35 · 28/11/2024 21:56

About 3.5 hours for full head of colour, full head of highlights, cut and blow dry. She’s amazing though and I only get it done once every couple of months.

SassK · 28/11/2024 21:56

Mine is freelance. She does both my daughter's hair (full head highlights) and mine (root colour and some alternate highlights/lowlights) in about 3 hours. She works while she talks, which is good!

HouseHelpNeeded1 · 28/11/2024 21:57

How much would high-lights cost? Or maybe low-lights? I have long hair but it's starting to go grey, and it's really obvious as my hair is dark brown. Wondering if I should get high/low lights put in to kind of hide the grey? But no idea about how often I would need to go back, would it be monthly?

I haven't been to a hairdressers in ages I get my mum to cut my hair and I am worried if I go in for a consultation I will be made a fool of. E.g. when I did go to a hairdresser to ask about getting it dyed they said I would have to have a course of Olaplex first, which was about £150. Buy you can buy it online!?

Sidebeforeself · 28/11/2024 21:57

This is interesting. Mine takes 2 hrs. But I alternate between root touch up , cut and blow dry or just root touch up and blow dry…it’s 2 hrs just the same! And £20 difference!

Careerburnout · 28/11/2024 21:59

Gosh I could have written this!
half a head of highlights (I do have thick ish hair) can easily take 3-3.5 hours. I wouldn’t even consider a full head.
When I have root regrowth only, it still takes upwards of 2 hours because of her other clients who are in at the same time. Honestly could lose the will to live in there sometimes, and often have to forgo the blow dry because of the time!
