How long does you hairdresser take? I'm losing the will to live...

Firefly45 · 28/11/2024 21:13

I have shoulder length hair and have full head of highlights.
I'm in hairdressers for 3.5 to 4hrs!

My hairdresser works for herself with no juniors but she seems to book 2 people in so is constantly leaving one of us to do the other...she says ill cut her hair while yours is taking its colour. But it never works out like that..end up sitting around waiting for her to finish other woman or other woman waiting for me.

I've been coming to her years and feel like I'm in a relationship I can't get out of.

Just wondered if this is normal for hairdressers?

I do love my hair when it's finished!

2.5 for me yesterday as was changing colour and had a restyle I'm normally 2 hours for full head foils of highlights with lowlights cut and blow dry. X

Patienceinshortsupply · 28/11/2024 22:01

I go to a stylist who doesn't offer colour for this very reason. If I go in for a cut/blow dry, I'm out in 50 minutes tops as I've got short hair and have it cut every 4/5 weeks to keep the shape. When I had highlights, I had to go to one of her colleagues and it took nearly 3 hours for a half head of headlights. And my hair is VERY short.

TotallyTwisted · 28/11/2024 22:02

Wow. I'm glad I am embracing the grey because my ADHD would not be able to cope with sitting in a salon chair for hours. A cut and blow dry takes an hour and that's bad enough!

Yeah full head and a cut and blow dry used to take 3 hours. Bored me to tears

Stopping and going grey was the best thing ever 😁

What does she do for that “ cheap” price?

Highlights, low lights, roots, cut, blow dry. Believe me it is a low price for the location. Another couple of tube stops into London and it would be £300.

ProvincialLady24 · 28/11/2024 22:04

Half head highlights and a trim is two hours and I'm bored to death of it.

ghostbusters · 28/11/2024 22:05

I just get a cut and blow dry which takes 1hr 20 mins 😭

SellFridges · 28/11/2024 22:07

Mines about 4 hours. I take a book, or I go on a weekday and do some work on my laptop.

HooMoo · 28/11/2024 22:08

My hair is similar length to yours and takes around 4 hours. I’ve decided to stop getting highlights now. I just can’t be bothered anymore.

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 28/11/2024 22:09

I had a full head of highlight, toner, cut and blowdry this very day. £120 which is by far the cheapest in the area but they're also the best. 3 hours and she was working on me the whole time apart from 40 mins where the colour developed.

ttcat37 · 28/11/2024 22:12

Mine takes 4 hours, at least. I don’t even love the colour and it costs a fortune. Unfortunately it’s the best I’ve found, ie ‘ok’ rather than ‘I’m wearing a hat for 8 weeks’ so I’m stuck for now.

Runningribbit · 28/11/2024 22:13

Mine is around 4 hours for foils, balayage, wash, cut, dry, style. Longest I’ve been in there is 6 hours and the hairdresser offered to buy me lunch when she got hers because it took far too long.

I don’t mind because I’m happy with the results but don’t like it when they’ve clearly squeezed too many ppl in.

Dotto · 28/11/2024 22:21

Mine has taken 6 hours before. Extremely thick long very dark hair. Foils for balyage, toner, root melt, wash, simple trim, rough dry. Only £120 though but jesus god it's so fucking boring.

EricTheGardener · 28/11/2024 22:33

Mine takes 4-5 hours for a half-head of highlights, wash, cut and blow dry. She is unbelievably slow but I love her skills and she charges £75 in London! (She gets a generous tip)

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 28/11/2024 22:37

I walk in with wet freshly-washed hair, I walk out fifteen minutes later with an inch trimmed off the bottom. I pay less than £20 for this about four times per year.

Single-chair salon, one stylist.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 28/11/2024 22:39

3-3.5 hrs for full head here. I think that's pretty standard. They need to have more than one chair filled at a a time.

Please share where?! Mine is 160!

RedVelvetIcing · 28/11/2024 22:41

It took mine around 2.5hrs last week but I’d left my roots 6 months. Full head highlights inc cut and blow dry.

FuckOffCleanShirt · 28/11/2024 22:46

In short, fucking ages.

She's self-employed and rents a chair in a salon. She books one person in at a time and takes ages. She's so fucking slow. She's forever popping in and out of the back room, she talks too much and just generally doesn't work very quickly.

I have all sorts of things done so there's not a standard time it'd take. Just fucking ages and ages. But she's good. And close. I might just shave my head.

Autumnlife · 28/11/2024 22:54

Mines fantastic I’ve got long hair and I have several colours running through it. Takes around 2 hours that’s her chattering away to me while she’s putting my hair in foils rinse it out then blow dried and curled. Had the same hair dresser many years now

DazedAndConfused321 · 28/11/2024 23:01

Mine takes about 2.5-3 hours- waist length, thick hair. Full head of high and lowlights, roots and trim. With a wash and blow dry. 3 hours if we're talking and distracted. She's efficient and amazing, talks while she works and doesn't leave me to do other people's hair!

aliceinawonderland · 28/11/2024 23:08

RosesAndHellebores · 28/11/2024 21:36

I couldn't roll with that. I don't have enough spare time. My hairdresser is superb. And cheap for SW London. £180 every 7 weeks.

Is £180 cheap?!!!

BeardofHagrid · 28/11/2024 23:16

My mobile lady snipped me last week and, as I’d already washed it, it took all of three minutes!

I think I’d lose my mind after the first hour, you must be incredibly patient! I’m sure you have beautiful hair though.

LoafofSellotape · 28/11/2024 23:19

1.5 hrs, she's lightening fast and fantastic.

fivebyfivebuffy · 28/11/2024 23:22

I just have a cut and style which is £110 and takes about 90 mins
Salon owner, single chair and it's a curly cut plus my hair takes SO fucking long to dry
