How long does you hairdresser take? I'm losing the will to live...

I have shoulder length hair and have full head of highlights.
I'm in hairdressers for 3.5 to 4hrs!

My hairdresser works for herself with no juniors but she seems to book 2 people in so is constantly leaving one of us to do the other...she says ill cut her hair while yours is taking its colour. But it never works out like that..end up sitting around waiting for her to finish other woman or other woman waiting for me.

I've been coming to her years and feel like I'm in a relationship I can't get out of.

Just wondered if this is normal for hairdressers?

I do love my hair when it's finished!

Mine takes around 2-2½ hours for a full head of highlights. Includes cut and blow dry.

Same here. He is single handed, only takes one client at a time, is brilliant and interesting to talk to as well. I've been going to him for 33 years I've just realised! Having relocated I now have an overnight stay at a friend's to see him but it's well worth it.

About 2 hours maximum with half head of highlights, wash, cut and blow dry. I have shoulder length hair. Hairdresser does same thing, leaves my colour to set while doing someone else but has people who wash my hair out etc. would never leave them, only person who gets my hair right.

pollymere · 30/11/2024 10:36

I had half head highlights done by a trainee. I was out under two hours.

Wow. I'm glad I am embracing the grey because my ADHD would not be able to cope with sitting in a salon chair for hours. A cut and blow dry takes an hour and that's bad enough!

Same, I've gone short and accepting of the grey because last time I had it coloured I was 4 hours in the salon. And over a hundred quid lighter. I could barely sit still but also didnt want to leave to walk around looking like I did. Once that colour grew out I went short and have stayed short. Slowly gone grey, almost white now. My wonderful hairdresser who doesnt know her worth cuts it short in about 20 minutes, charges me less than 20 quid and understands. So I'm staying short haired and when the hairdresser retires I'm just going to buzz cut it myself or attempt cutting, whichever looks neater.

I'm surprised so many people willingly spend 4-5 hours sat in the hairdressers on a regular basis!

DD had full hair colour (including bleach), cut (complicated as she was going for a very funky and intricate pixie) and blow dry on Weds. Took 2.5hrs and cost £70 but we love our hairdresser and we tend to get takeaway Costa (drinks and cake as well), stick some music on and catch up. Last time, I dropped DD off (she's 17 and doesn't drive yet) and the hairdresser ran her home and bought her MDs en route!

Five hours for a cut & colour, under two for a cut

HelenHywater · 30/11/2024 14:28

My hairdresser does the same - she double books us all in and runs around between us all. I'm always longer than I should be (and I don't even have highlights). It's annoying, but I like her and can't be bothered starting the process to find someone else.

jerrywesterby · 30/11/2024 14:36

I've just been this morning.. root touch up, highlights, cut and blow dry, shoulder length hair, takes 1hr 45 mins for £70. She does her next customer while waiting for my colour. 4 hours is ridiculous!

Yes but we have no idea of your style, the standard of the service etc.It takes my colourist at least 45 mins to do my highlights.

Why?

I should add that I leave with wet hair (my choice) cos i can't bear waiting another 40min to dry it!

You really can't sit and have your hair blow dried ? Why spend all that money and leave with wet hair ? I don't understand that at all

I get my individual micro ring extensions removed, highlights, toner, a wash and blow dry and then the individual extensions put back in and trimmed/styled and that takes about 3.5-4 hours. Seems very long if there are no extensions involved.

I have lots of hair so it takes about 90 mins to foil mine so I'm always about 4 hrs in the hairdressers.

DearDenimEagle · 30/11/2024 16:57

Why I don’t go to hairdressers, plus they waste so much water and time washing and rinsing, as if by taking a long time they can justify prices. I cut and colour my own. Used to cut my kids’ my OH’s, my FIL’s, too.

coffeesaveslives · 30/11/2024 16:59

stripeyshutters · 30/11/2024 14:55

Why?

Because it sounds mind-numbingly dull and uncomfortable, lol. I can think of so many other things I'd rather be doing with my free time.

stripeyshutters · 01/12/2024 00:54

I love it as you get to do exactly what you want for several hours with a never ending supply of coffees, teas or prosecco. Plus at the end you look great! Hair is very important to me. 😉

Hurryuphumphreygeorgeiswaiting · 07/12/2024 09:59

4 hours for me. Live in the SE. I have long hair. Full head of highlights, deep conditioning treatment, trim and blow dry. £195.00 every 4 or 5 months. Don't have much of a regrowth. I love going along as it is the only time I get to sit, read, drink coffee without running around like a lunatic all the time with children, work, elderly parents/in-law's. My DH takes over and it is bliss.

Plastictrees · 07/12/2024 10:25

When I have a full balayage and blow dry it takes about 4 hours. I have long, thick hair so I think it’s pretty normal. It takes 45 mins alone just for the dye to work!
