If you used to buy the Now albums what number was your first one?

33 for me, brought on double cassette from good old Woolies.

I know they are viewed by many as being deeply uncool but individual albums were way too expensive for me as a pre-teen. I think they featured on all my teen Xmas lists too and I remember the adverts with Mark Goodier doing the voice over.

I still have a very soft spot for them, even though when I occasionally pick one up for a nosy at I have no idea who 99% of the tracklists are, but I don't think I'm their target audience anymore anyway!

It was Now 38. I was about 10 and I got it for Christmas.

Same, we’re the same age!

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 23/11/2024 21:17

@BaldingClare 😂 Exactly!

I think I had the first one. It was a vinyl record and was called Now Music I think.

FLOWER1982 · 23/11/2024 21:19

Now 23. My first album on cassette I got for Christmas as it had Charles and Eddie would I lie to you. They played on totp on Christmas Day as well that year. Good times!

Sherrystrull · 23/11/2024 21:19

Now 1992 was brilliant too

Gertrudetheadelie · 23/11/2024 21:19

Now 37, Now 40 and 44. Ah nostalgia...

ThePoshUns · 23/11/2024 21:19

Number 3. I think it had the pig on it. Christmas time I think

WetBandits · 23/11/2024 21:21

Now 56.

thenightsky · 23/11/2024 21:23

Is anyone else old enough to remember Top of the Pops albums? Brought out a Xmas and all the songs were cover versions.

yipyipyop · 23/11/2024 21:23

@BaldingClare love it!

@Gertrudetheadelie 37 is also a cracker, mmmbop is track 1. I brought it on the first day of the long six week holidays so that might be why I loved it so.

Now 32. I remember liking the beginning of both disks better than the ends.

There are playlists on Spotify, off for a listen to see if my taste's changed since I was 10!

29 for me!

Thanks for the Spotify tip, gonna have to take a trip down memory lane

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 23/11/2024 21:26

@thenightsky I had a couple of these but they might not be what you mean.

Now 38 was the first one I had. It was on tape and the cover was blue and pink.

My first CD one was now 42.

Hattysbackpack · 23/11/2024 21:27

Now 37 from 1997. I was 13. Listened to it so much! I got Now 38 as well, but didn't think it was as good.

MyrtleStrumpet · 23/11/2024 21:27

I got the first one on cassette and the snobby girl next to me said that pop music was for plebs and none of them could beat Beethoven. Obviously she was wrong because 1983-4 was the start of the best musical period of all time. Practically the whole Top 40 beginning then are now classics.

I heard recently that as long as the first 12-15 tracks and the last 3 were great, the albums would sell.

Fabellini · 23/11/2024 21:28

The first one, on vinyl. It was just called “Now that’s what I call music” - I assume because they didn’t realised it would still be on the go over 40 years later!
If I remember properly, it was a dark green double album cover with a cartoon pig wearing sunglasses on it. I got it for Christmas, and I was so chuffed!

You are absolutely correct. 37 is superior.

Sorry missed that bit, not the same thing at all. Ignore me!

The first one! On vinyl, 1983 I think.

🙄 They sound delightful and I bet they listened to it in secret!

Now 30 on cassette, would have been 1995. Masive Attack and Portishead were both on the end of side 1. Some absolute bangers.

I've since acquired a few of the early ones on vinyl, including the Christmas one.

Totallymessed · 23/11/2024 21:33

The first one! That and the Smash Hits year book made my ideal Christmas day for years.

fisherhatesgravel72 · 23/11/2024 21:33

I feel old I have the first one on vinyl 🙈
