If you used to buy the Now albums what number was your first one?

33 for me, brought on double cassette from good old Woolies.

I know they are viewed by many as being deeply uncool but individual albums were way too expensive for me as a pre-teen. I think they featured on all my teen Xmas lists too and I remember the adverts with Mark Goodier doing the voice over.

I still have a very soft spot for them, even though when I occasionally pick one up for a nosy at I have no idea who 99% of the tracklists are, but I don't think I'm their target audience anymore anyway!

No 2 on vinyl, then No 9 on cassette, then I got practically all of them between 22 and 38 I think on cassette or CD (my teenage years)

Hoplolly · 24/11/2024 09:09

Oh also, not read the whole thread but Now 23 is the best Now of all time, no contest.

Now 23 I think - first song I remember is Sleeping Satellites by Tamsin Archer. Quality album!

Just posted about this - but this was the BEST one.

LateMumma · 24/11/2024 09:11

Now 4, Christmas 84 I think

Sethera · 24/11/2024 09:16

Anyone else here whose first was in single figures - are you feeling really old this morning reading replies from people whose first one was a Now thirty-something? 😂

Sethera · 24/11/2024 09:18

Just wondering if anyone else had this:

No, but I had Hits 6, which I got as a freebie when I bought my first personal stereo (a really cheap Boots own brand one).

Yes, I still have it!

Freebies - I had volume 1 of this - sadly couldn't neck down enough Twixes to get vol 2 😃

I can only apologise for my dyslexic self and endeavour to do better.

Now 44. Purple cover.

Now 37. I was 11 years old and it was the first thing I’d ever owned on CD. I’d had a mini hifi system for my bedroom for my birthday a couple of months earlier. I can see it now, it had a gold cover and the first song on CD1 was Mmmbop by Hanson.

It did! It's is still one of my absolute favourites and even now if I hear mmmbop it brings back incredible memories of the long hot summer holidays of 1997.

Sorry 😂 but I have to admit I am a bit relieved, when I started the threat I did worry it would be full of children younger poster saying Now 89 or something and make me feel ancient!

The last one I bought was Now 14 so it seems amazing that they're currently in the 100s on Now numbers. Once I went to sixth form college I started fancying myself as a bit of a goth and spending my money on Bauhaus albums on green vinyl and the like 😳.

Thankfully now I am middle-aged such pretensions are long behind me and my radio is tuned to Absolute 80s!

longtompot · 24/11/2024 12:29

Now That's What I Call Music 2! On cassette tape. When I hear some of the songs on the radio can still remember what the next one would have been after it 😆

longtompot · 24/11/2024 12:54

ViciousCurrentBun · 24/11/2024 00:41

Now 2 I just remember it had Word Up on it.

Not sure it was Now 2 you had as this is the track listing for it

Now TWICM2

@Sethera I used to sit there with my finger hovering over the record button waiting for the dj to stop talking.
Also the little glitches on songs from a recording onto tape or a slightly scratched vinyl record, and expecting to hear the same when you hear it on the radio

I used to collect the free cds on various music mags, mainly Q magazine. I've got quite a few I still listen to now. Very much indie stuff but so good.

Pardon our interruption...
