Staying in PJs all day?

HighburyLass · 20/11/2024 21:41

Anyone else not find this appealing? Or even for the morning?
I generally get dressed straight after breakfast because somehow I start to feel a bit grufty if I don't.
I know loads of people find it a treat to load around in pjs all day.

No judgement, just wondering if it's the majority.

Also I have had a chronic illness for many years and wonder if being bedridden for 2 or 3 days regularly has made me equate pjs all day with being unwell.

Just pondering!

There's another thread about this going on at the moment. I put this picture on that thread.
It's a pair of pyjamas from the Primark website.
Can you explain the difference between these and a pair of trousers and t-shirt?
Because to me they are the same and are perfectly normal to wear all day at home.

I have no issues but figure I will have a shower at some point so I get it over with when I wake up and get dressed otherwise I would need to think about doing it which would take more energy than just getting on and getting it done

Bytheclock · 20/11/2024 22:25

Absolutely not. I too feel gruffy if I stay in my pajamas, just doesn't feel right at all.
When I put on my clothes for the day even if I'm staying home I feel a lot better about getting down to work.
If I wore PJs all day, I would feel as if I need to be in bed sick.

I can't stay in PJ's all day, I like to get up and showered, dressed and ready for the day. I don't feel like that if I'm in my PJs.

Martymcfly24 · 20/11/2024 22:28

If I know I'm going nowhere id much prefer have a quick shower and get into comfortable tracksuit bottoms and hoodie than stay in pajamas . It just feels fresher and cosier

At least I don't have to live in fear of the doorbell too

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 22:35

I think there are very different ideas of what "pyjamas" actually are from some people on this thread.
It's trousers and a top.
Don't most people wear trousers and a top all the time?

Yes I feel my PJs are not door appropriate. Occasionally I will pretend the front door is locked if I have a delivery and just take in parcels through the small window at the front if I'm caught in my PJs after midday.

The difference is that you just slept in the actual pyjamas all night.

hth

PickAChew · 20/11/2024 22:40

I make most of my own clothes, including my pyjamas and if I'm going nowhere often change out of my jammies into joggers and a top, often made using the same pattern as the pyjamas. My day pyjamas tend to be heavier or more expensive fabrics and my night pyjamas more colourful or in prints I'd never wear in public.

Currently wearing this pair with red bottoms and I have this zebra print for my next pair.

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 22:42

@thatsawhopperthatlemon yes but on these threads it's usually established that the "wear jammies all day" people usually put on a CLEAN pair in the morning. Not the ones they slept in.
HTH 😂

StressedQueen · 20/11/2024 22:46

I mean I don't but my kids all love it so I think it's just me! I like to change into jeans and a top or something basic regardless of whether I'm going out but tbh most of the time I will be popping out at least once - it's rare I'm at home the entire time.

I encourage my kids to at least change into joggers and a hoodie or I'd even accept just a new set of PJS to wear for the day rather than staying in the clothes they've slept in but I understand why people love it!

BondStreet · 20/11/2024 22:47

I have so many things to do with the DC on the weekends that I’m hardly ever in all day but on those occasions where we have a cosy day in, we will get up, have breakfast, shower and then we’ll sometimes (especially in the winter) we’ll put a fresh set of pyjamas on and lounge about. Sometimes I’ll put my sportswear on, just depends really.

Key here is clean pyjamas and a refreshing shower.

leia24 · 20/11/2024 22:49

I never wear pyjamas all day but if I'm staying in I will get a shower brush my hair etc and put on a tracksuit or something.

I agree with the OP and for me it's not what they look like. It's the fact I've slept in them. If I don't change I feel like I haven't started my day properly.

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 23:10

@brbg2g yes but usually ones worn all day aren't the same pair that's been slept in all night.

ExpertlyDecorated · 20/11/2024 23:11

I don't sleep in pyjamas (I wear nightshirts) so I could put them on after showering, but unless I am ill I never stay at home for the whole day so there's no point as I'd have to change later. I would also not like to have to answer the door in them.

researchers3 · 20/11/2024 23:17

No. I don't enjoy not smelling nice! Each to their own though.

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 23:18

@researchers3 why wouldn't you smell nice?
Don't you wash your PJ's?

pointlesspoints · 20/11/2024 23:20

I never wear clothes in the house, PJs for me.

vegaspotty · 20/11/2024 23:32

I have to shower every day whether it is 5am before work or 10am if having a lazy day.
I need to feel clean and refreshed for my brain to work. Wearing clothes rather than PJs .
When my children were newborn I had to shower to function as a Mum ..yes they were left to own devices for a few minutes .

OAPapparently · 20/11/2024 23:37

I love sitting around in PJs. You would hate my house because my DC are the same, if we don’t have anywhere to go we are often in our PJs. DH on the other hand is an up and dressed kind of person, but he doesn’t own any PJs.

Thatcastlethere · 20/11/2024 23:48

I sleep naked but I do have clothes I'd never wear outside.. like leggings with paint on and an old tshirt. And sometimes if I'm not going out I'll just wear those all day with fluffy socks and no bra. So I suppose that's the same as a PJ day??
Yeah I don't see why I should waste good clothes on a day no one will see me?
I only get properly dressed if I'm going out or people are coming round.

HarrisObviously · 20/11/2024 23:48

I don't possess a single pair of PJs.

Ihateslugs · 20/11/2024 23:55

BurntBroccoli · 20/11/2024 22:37

Yes I feel my PJs are not door appropriate. Occasionally I will pretend the front door is locked if I have a delivery and just take in parcels through the small window at the front if I'm caught in my PJs after midday.

If I am not dressed when a delivery arrives, I open the door a crack and say “ You just caught me in time, I’m about to go in the shower!

I struggle with insomnia as well as mobility problems so it takes me a while to get going in the mornings, I need two lots of pain relief ( four hours apart) after a bad night so can still be in bed until early afternoon. If I’m not going out, I might then stay in my nightie after I get up but I try not to do that every day.
