Staying in PJs all day?

HighburyLass · 20/11/2024 21:41

Anyone else not find this appealing? Or even for the morning?
I generally get dressed straight after breakfast because somehow I start to feel a bit grufty if I don't.
I know loads of people find it a treat to load around in pjs all day.

No judgement, just wondering if it's the majority.

Also I have had a chronic illness for many years and wonder if being bedridden for 2 or 3 days regularly has made me equate pjs all day with being unwell.

Just pondering!

There is something fundamentally wrong with an adult person who refuses to dress like a civilised human being.
Wearing the PJs all day long is a clear sign of lack of discipline. How can I trust someone who does not even make the effort to put some clean clothes on ?

Yes I'm so undisciplined that rather than ring into work sick, I WFH wearing pj bottoms so I'm comfortable and up to the eyeballs on morphine Hmm
I physically can't fit jeans or trousers on some days and I'm not on camera so no need

ExpertlyDecorated · 21/11/2024 17:42

That's another thing, I might know they are clean but clearly a lot of people would assume I was still wearing ones I'd slept in.

As for the bra thing, I'd never go out without one as I am big-busted so I don't particularly want to see friends and family without one either. I do have friends and neighbours that call unexpectedly which is nice but I don't want to stand on the step chatting in a thin top and no bra. And if you are putting bra and knickers on you might as well get dressed in daytime clothes.

I agree with you OP.

I shower and get dressed, I don't wear soft cotton trousers, aka pj trousers, I wear jeans, skirts or dresses. Can't remember the last time I stayed in the house all day anyway

So let's say that Sunday is my last shift at work, in the morning I get up, shower and put on a clean uniform and go do my shift then get home, shower and put on a pair of clean pyjamas.

Monday morning I get up, have my coffee in my pyjamas then receive my shopping delivery which will last me the whole time I'm off. I spend the rest of that week lounging around in the same pyjamas without showering, I don't leave the house or have visitors, it's just me and my guinea pig.

Monday afternoon I'm back on shift so Monday morning I get up, have a shower, put on a clean pair of clothes and go somewhere for breakfast. When I get home I will put on a clean uniform ready to go to work in. My uniforms are clean every day and every work day or days I'm in public/company I have a shower and wear clean actual clothes.

What does it matter to anyone and how would anyone even know what I was doing in my spare time? Would it make me less trustworthy as a nurse somehow? If you found out about my slovenly week would you refuse treatment by me because I'm "untrustworthy"

As it happens I'm not a nurse, I don't live alone and I don't have a guinea pig. My clothes are clean and I have a shower ever day yet I don't even trust myself to make your coffee correctly some days, I would definitely trust the pyjama wearing nurse to get it right way more than me!!

ivegoneswimming · 21/11/2024 17:47

@ExpertlyDecorated the lounge wear are comfier and quite nice and not thin.

mitogoshigg · 21/11/2024 17:47

That said I don't own pj's i don't understand the concept of putting clothes on to sleep in as it's so uncomfortable (aside from camping when I wear joggers and an old t shirt)

Mickeymix · 21/11/2024 17:52

I had to stay in hospital for a few days after an operation. I had clothes brought in (by DW) and changed in the mornings. It helped stop me feeling like an invalid.
Just my opinion. . . . .

Sallysoup · 21/11/2024 18:02

I love all the rules we mentally create and stick to, and how different they are!

I won't wear PJ'S in the day, but an almost identical joggers and jumper set is perfectly fine.

Likewise I couldn't order a takeaway Monday - Thursday, it's a weekend only event.

I also won't eat lunch food for tea e.g. soup and a sandwich, or jacket potato.

And there is something obviously wrong with an adult human judging what another adult human does in their own home. Crazy old world.

Go and tell that to the OP who opened the thread asking for opinions, lovely. I simply responded to her invitation.

Not had time to RTFT, but I love my PJs/ loungewear, but do feel grubby if I stay in what I’ve slept in. If I’m in hibernation mode there’s nothing wrong with fresh daytime PJs after a shower, it’s cozy and comfortable!

as an aside I don’t know how anyone wears jeans inside of their own home!

You give enough of a fuck to pass judgement on people you don't even know on a parenting forum 🤣

Dontlletmedownbruce · 21/11/2024 18:22

I have to wear PJs tomorrow at work!! It's a charity thing and i work with kids. I have been stressing about it all week. Trying on PJs in front of the mirror seeing which makes my bum bigger. I have settled on a pink stripy set but need to change my bottom half to walk to work and bring a dressing gown and slippers in my bag. Bloody ridiculous! I am embarrassed already

Oh this is hilarious. 😂

I'm not a daytime pyjama wearer but seriously, this is batshit nonsense.

Havalona · 21/11/2024 18:53

Retired here but active and mobile. I organise my day around whether or not I will be going out. If I am it's a shower and change into ordinary clothes, if I'm not and it's a housework or admin/lazy day then since I only sleep in a long sleeved T shirt anyways, I'll throw on a pair of jog bottoms or whatever is comfortable.

What exactly is the problem anyway - if there is one! And as for all the door dances for Mr. Amazon or other delivery folk, they don't give a F, as long as you're not naked. Why would they, all they want to do is deliver your post/parcel. Can someone explain please?

Because it's an obvious sign of lack of discipline apparently

Huh, far too many uptight folk around these days. Says she from her wise old perch. 😊

WhatapityWapiti · 21/11/2024 19:35

I’m PMSL here at all the people tying themselves up in knots explaining that they shower and put on underwear and clean pyjamas, but they are still like totally slobbing out in their PJs.

For goodness sake. Unless you are actually still in the garment you slept in you’re just dressed in low quality clothes.

I wear either pyjamas or a nighty to bed. I do not wear a bra or knickers. Sometimes at the weekend I am still in my night clothes, under my fleecy dressing gown, WITH NO PANTS ON, at 5pm.

That is what spending the day in your pyjamas means.

Caddycat · 21/11/2024 19:35

For me it isn't the PJs, I just can't function without a bra and fresh pants on.

To be fair, I take my pj's bottoms off to sleep. Sleep in pants and pj's top. Then in the morning on go clean pants and on go pj's bottoms and a jumper. I never shower in a morning. Unless it's a Saturday, when I clean the bathroom first

Don’t you ever have days where you are in and out of home throughout the day? You’d spend far too much time getting changed if you only wore jeans for going out.

I very rarely wear jeans. Too hard to get on and off with RA.

Leggings and wool tights are my go to for the office or leaving the house.

Inside, pj's bottoms or joggers if I'm not leaving at all. I'll just keep tights or tights on if I've been out

Havalona · 21/11/2024 19:46

A trick of mine is to wear a dark T shirt to bed, have a pair of dark colour lounge pants or whatever they call them, elastic waist, no pattern. Tumble out of bed, stick legs in lounge pants then feet into slip on footwear, (not slippers), wash face, put hair up in a messy clip, spray deodorant, rub eyes, get out the door with fleece jacket on top.

That's to take the bins in or out - in case I see Adonis from two doors up going to work.
