Staying in PJs all day?

HighburyLass · 20/11/2024 21:41

Anyone else not find this appealing? Or even for the morning?
I generally get dressed straight after breakfast because somehow I start to feel a bit grufty if I don't.
I know loads of people find it a treat to load around in pjs all day.

No judgement, just wondering if it's the majority.

Also I have had a chronic illness for many years and wonder if being bedridden for 2 or 3 days regularly has made me equate pjs all day with being unwell.

Just pondering!

According to the dictionary "a loose jacket and trousers worn in bed."

You do you, some of us just don't want to wear pjs all day and sorry, but I think people who do are plain weird and if you read this thread you will find I'm not alone.

Edited

'You do you' is accepting that not everyone is like you or thinks like you.

'People who do are plain weird' is judgement. And a horrible one.

There is no shortage of people saying that it's weird/scruffy etc to wear PJs at home all day. I do note that there is a distinct lack of PJ wearers name calling those who don't though.

You say 'you do you' but then call the people who do so 'weird' - makes no sense.

Just another poster happy to name call someone for doing something different.

I've been gradually filling my wardrobe with comfortable, out of the house appropriate, clothes. I was terrible for wearing PJ's all day (wfh). But you can get lovely soft trousers now which feel like PJ's but are at least "proper" clothes. Along with a jumper or sweatshirt.

I did it for two reasons. One being that I do feel more "awake" being properly dressed. Also been having some health issues, have passed out on occasion, and have been worried about an ambulance needing to be called when I'm in PJ's in the middle of the day 😂

I have been interested to see on this thread a common theme of people who have been ill for long periods of time needing to get dressed into "real" clothes and not feeling right when wearing PJs at home. I am the same - when I was younger I would happily have worn PJs or comfy lounge wear all day, but two bouts of serious illness, hospitalisation and then months of convalescence have really ruined PJs/lounge wear for me. I don't associate them with comfort or relaxation any longer except for actually being in bed asleep.

I need to get fully dressed in actual clothes (ie. garments with a shape to them made of heavier non-stretchy materials) to feel awake and alert, though I have no issue at all with the rest of my family who are PJ wearers all day if we are staying home. I don't even like wearing "athleisure" unless I'm actually working out, it just feels wrong. I've not heard the word "grufty" before this thread but the combination of grim/grubby/scruffy is a perfect description!

frozendaisy · 21/11/2024 09:13

It's so rare that I get a day to lounge around all day. But would happily relish a day in bed, quick food, many teas and to read one of my to read pile.

But we have jobs, teens, an oldie, teen jobs, friends, sports, chores.

I am thinking perhaps 28/29th December we can all have a batten down the hatches no guests, no chore day. And I/we will all enjoy that day.

So people who can do this on a regular basis I am a little envious.

I would class it as a feeding the mind day, when everything else can be forgotten about.

And I bet one or both of the teens have money to burn from Christmas and insist on dragging us out!

Needmorelego · 21/11/2024 09:13

@ForGreyKoala I don't care what other people wear.....unlike people that start threads like these 🤷

QueSyrahSyrah · 21/11/2024 09:17

@ExpertlyDecorated I don't think any of Team PJ are suggesting they change into PJs every time they're in the house? If I'm in and out all day then obviously I get dressed first thing and stay dressed until such time as I'm not going out again.

I wear PJs if I know I'm not going out at all, or if I'm back from being out and know I'm not going out again. If my plans change I simply get dressed, no big deal, I'm clean and showered anyway.

Nothing wrong with lazing around in pjs in the comfort of your own home at weekends, but did your 12 year-old son really not go out all weekend, and stay in the same pjs for three days and three nights - so he didn't wash his pits and bits for three days?

No he's a weirdo ( a bit like me) and grabs his favourite pjs and hides them so I can't steal them to wash them then appears out of his room all freshly washed with damp hair ( because he's a boy and they seem to think just shaking their head a bit will dry it) but the exact same pjs. He does wear undies under them and changes those so dont panic too much. Monday those pjs get a heck of a washing and hours on the line in the sun.😁

mamechange · 21/11/2024 09:33

Reminds me I need to buy the next size up!

Problemzapper · 21/11/2024 09:35

I must admit I don't feel the day has started for me until I'm dressed, regardless of whether I have plans to go anywhere or not (I usually have to go somewhere though), and equally when I get home from work or other activities in the evening and have my shower I usually pull on a comfortable top and bottoms rather than nightwear/dressing gown, even if it's only an hour or so before bedtime because I like to remain reasonably presentable until then and I don't like to feel my day has ended until I actually go to bed.

But I know a mate who can't wait to get into her dressing gown as soon as she has had her post-work shower, so could be lounging in it from 6pm onwards, but each to their own 😁

There's another thread about this going on at the moment. I put this picture on that thread.
It's a pair of pyjamas from the Primark website.
Can you explain the difference between these and a pair of trousers and t-shirt?
Because to me they are the same and are perfectly normal to wear all day at home.

I would wear those at home all day, no problem.

But not if I'd slept in them.

Thats the distinction for me.

I need to get up, have a wash, and put something fresh on. No matter how comfy / casual it is, and pjs like that would be fine.

Needmorelego · 21/11/2024 10:08

@pinotgrigeeeeo exactly !

Trickedbyadoughnut · 21/11/2024 10:13

I don't care about other people wearing pyjamas all day, but I need to be dressed in "outdoor clothes" 😅to feel like I'm ready to start the day.

I WFH three days and I still need to get dress in something not too scruffy to feel ready to work, in the same way that I need my home office to be pretty tidy and clean to feel like I can work properly!

Luckymoo · 21/11/2024 10:29

I wfh and tend to wear pyjamas a lot, I have “day” ones and put them on clean with a hoodie, it’s just more comfortable for me.

EdithStourton · 21/11/2024 10:38

I feel permanently unready if I'm in PJs, and getting dressed is all part of the morning teeth-clean-do-hair routine. I also have to go out at some point to walk the dogs and air myself, and no way am I walking around in my night clothes...

Plus our house is a bugger to heat so PJs just don't cut it.

19Questions · 21/11/2024 11:59

I feel ill and awful if I stay in my pyjamas for more than half an hour on a morning while I'm getting things done. In the shower as soon as possible, minimum make up on if I'm not going out, and gym bottoms and a hoodie on. I can't put my pyjamas on til the minute I'm going to bed either. Just can't do it! So when people talk about getting in their pyjamas as soon as they get home, I am aghast! Light heartedly aghast, obviously, but I could not do it! Anyway, I'm normally needed by someone or have to go to the shops on an evening so I don't switch off til I am going to bed. My mum is 85 and also cannot stay in her bed things unless really poorly. She feels that she is giving up if she doesn't get dressed and presentable every day, and I will be the same.

fivebyfivebuffy · 21/11/2024 12:25

I did attempt to start with trousers today but you can see how well that went! Grin

Staying in PJs all day?
Crazyfarmgirl · 21/11/2024 12:40

I'm wearing pj's most days of the week at the moment as mental health isn't great. Getting dressed and having a shower seems so painfully draining. Haven't even got the energy to get up to eat. Dread to think what my OH thinks of me😪

ivegoneswimming · 21/11/2024 15:00

I wear them after work in the winter and not going out. Take them off to sleep.

I'm off work today and feel rubbish so I got up and had a wash and put clean ones on. I've got a bit of foundation on and put my hair in a clip.

Blahdeblah24 · 21/11/2024 15:30

I'm be happy to stay in pjs but too worried that someone would come to the door and my slovenliness would be revealed.

Rainbow321 · 21/11/2024 15:38

Driving along in my town in a road that has terrace houses at one end leading into the street that has the library , Weatherspoons , opticians etc ( so quite busy ) saw a woman come out of her house wearing bright red fleece pjs and slippers and begin to walk down the street

Now I'm all for wearing what you like indoors , but other than nipping out to the bin in the garden , you don't go out wearing that .

GameOfJones · 21/11/2024 15:42

I can't stay in the same pyjamas I've slept in unless I'm really ill. So to me it symbolises feeling sick and I get dressed.

Often I'll get dressed in "slobby" clothes. Leggings, joggers, hoodies, oversized t shirts etc so they are really comfortable but I could also pop out to the shops in them or wouldn't be embarrassed answering the door.

If I was getting up and getting changed out of my sleeping pyjamas anyway, I'd just put on actual clothes so I didn't need to worry about needing to go out and getting changed yet again.

I do often have a shower immediately after work and get into my pyjamas then, so I could easily be wearing them from 6pm (and then sleeping in them).

TitaniasAss · 21/11/2024 15:47

I would never wear PJs all day, it's not for me, but I have no idea why some people get so upset about other people who do this. Why does anyone else care what someone else wears in their own house?

That in my opinion, IS weird.

recipientofraspberries · 21/11/2024 15:50

I frequently stay in my PJs all day. I have ADHD and autism so sometimes, changing into clothes just to stay indoors all day is a step too far. It would just create more tasks for me to do (and probably not do), building up mess. So for practicality reasons I often just stay in PJs. Other times I do get dressed, if I've got the energy.

MaidOfSteel · 21/11/2024 15:51

I'm in PJs much of the time, i live my loungewear! I only get properly dressed if I'm well enough to go out, or if we're having visitors.
I have mobility impairments and on bad days, I can be bedbound. I don't see the point in getting dressed, creating even more laundry and extra pain, for no reason. Having said that, I do get through a lot of PJs!
