What’s the universally best received homemade cake in a work place?

I think it’s brownies (no nuts). Everyone likes a homemade brownie.

I want to bake for my team this weekend. Needs to be something pre-portioned as no knives on site. Nothing fragile like cupcakes as need to take on the bus.

Carrot cake, banana cake or old school cake ☺️

And I am so confused about people who don’t like brownies

Sorry but they're too sweet and sickly . 😉

Woahh who are all these lemon drizzle people?! I see that as quite a niche taste. Victoria sponge for me.

I know but if you get a good one it's sooo good. I'm more of millionaires shortbread gal usually but if I see a lemon drizzle with a proper sugary crust on the top I'd be tempted to turn. And it looks so attractive in slices.

notacooldad · 15/11/2024 21:43

Lemon drizzle is our most popular
Apple puree flapjacks are always good as well.

Lemon drizzle would make me so sad.

Brownies are my favourite thing ever. I could eat a whole box of Gower brownies in 1 go.

I don't like baked goods at work though. Unless there's no pressure to have any. I have to be really in the mood for it not just randomly on a Tuesday morning.

SugarIsHardtoAvoid · 15/11/2024 21:49

Lemon drizzle is too sickly sweet. I don’t want to eat anything with icing on at work, too messy. Ditto cream fillings.
I like ginger cake or lemon and poppyseed cake. Brownies are a bit boring unless full of nuts, but nuts are not suitable office fodder. Home made chocolate chip cookies are a great alternative for taking to work.
My all time favourite cake with a cup of tea at work is banana bread. With chocolate chips in it or chopped dates. Nut free for work. Easy to transport and easy to make. Can’t go wrong! https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/bananabread_85720

Easy banana bread recipe recipe

This is a really easy banana bread recipe that gives perfect results every time and uses plenty of bananas which are on the turn.

I would love ginger cake

ExitPursuedByABare · 15/11/2024 21:50

Loathe brownies.

My carrot cake is excellent.

Love a bit of Tiffin.

Starzinsky · 15/11/2024 21:51

Brownies for sure.

People still talk about my coffee and walnut cake and it’s been 12 years. Generally people have chocolate flavoured things fairly regularly so it doesn’t stand out

I love coffee and walnut cake.

Agree.

RamblasTapas · 15/11/2024 21:54

Welsh cakes. Lemon drizzle or tray baked sponge with jam and coconut on top.

Futurethinking2026 · 15/11/2024 20:40

I would dislike lemon, but love anything chocolate.

Edited

Me too 😂

The solution is clear. 2 cakes, one lemon drizzle, the other brownies.

This is the combo I always make and take, and the most requested by my team.

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 15/11/2024 21:56

Rock buns

izimbra · 15/11/2024 21:57

Lemon drizzle.

My recipe: 1 cup of greek yogurt, 2 cups sugar, 3 cups of s/r flour, 4 large eggs. One teaspoon of salt. 3/4 cups olive oil. finely grated lemon rind. Vanilla extract.
Mix it all together. Bung it in a lined pan. Cook it for 30 - 45 minutes in 160 degree oven. Lemon drizzle on top. Never fails.

Onlyvisiting · 15/11/2024 21:57

Coffee cake 🤣.
Also love lemon though.
Victoria sandwich seems pretty universally safe? Any of that type of cake can be made low and flat in a square tin and sliced into squares rather than tall slices. Much easier to travel and handle like that.

I'm not a brownie lover myself.
Flapjack travels well.

SugarIsHardtoAvoid · 15/11/2024 21:58

I absolutely love carrot cake but am banning it for work because of the icing. It gets squashed around in a Tupperware before getting to work and looks rubbish.
Ditto anything with pastry on the bottom gets smashed up in the box.
I forgot that Rice Krispie type cakes in a paper case travel well too and are very easy to make.

Onlyvisiting · 15/11/2024 21:59

whyeyeeyeeyeeye · 15/11/2024 21:08

I like carrot cake but it’s so untransportable with all that cream cheese icing.

Rocky road excellent shout.

Lemon drizzle could be a good second cake.

What about a nice ginger cake?

Oh, yes to ginger cake! But don't get posh and put lumps or real ginger in it, powdered all the way please 🤣

Bbq1 · 15/11/2024 21:59

I'm not a fan of Brownies particularly. Red velvet, carrot cake or best of alk, Victoria Sponge.

SugarIsHardtoAvoid · 15/11/2024 21:59

Welsh cakes, now you’re talking!
