What’s the universally best received homemade cake in a work place?

I think it’s brownies (no nuts). Everyone likes a homemade brownie.

I want to bake for my team this weekend. Needs to be something pre-portioned as no knives on site. Nothing fragile like cupcakes as need to take on the bus.

Oh yes, millionaires shortbread! A big hit in our workplace, although they like anything chocolatey really. I do a Rocky Road sometimes and chop up a Crunchie and Fudge bar to mix in (sometimes Smarties too if there are any in the cupboard).

Smarties in the cupboard?

Is this a hidden cupboard?
or a safe?

no smarties stay in my cupboard long enough for me to get the whisk out

If you want ginger, Delia damp gingerbread It doesn't look fancy but goes down very well. The recipe says 50 mins to cook - not true! More like 30. Also it was obviously written a while ago as it's much easier to melt the syrup and butter in the microwave.

Does it have to be a cake? These are super easy, everyone loves them and it's near enough Christmas now

Ha good point, I always cut them diagonally into normal sized biscuits. Didn't notice that step is not in the recipe 😂

This is a similar recipe without cinnamon that is a bit clearer on the method. I'd definitely use the first recipe mixture though.

Swedish Cookies (Brunscrackers)

These Scandinavian sugar cookies are simple to make, just form them into bars and cut after baking. This is a recipe that my husband's nana has made for years. They are the easiest cookies I have ever made. The ingredients were harder to find than it w...

If nuts are ok, lemon and pistachio cake (esp as can be made gluten free). So good!

ShyTed · 15/11/2024 22:39

Oh another vote for lemon drizzle here! I can recommend Jane’s patisserie recipe it’s divine. Or school cake with icing & sprinkles - plain and simple.
I do like brownies but only when slightly heated.

Waffle78 · 15/11/2024 22:42

i love lemon drizzle and anything chocolate but not everyone does. A sponge cake or Madeira cake would be a safe option.

I prefer a flan.

Lol. This is said randomly in our house when we talk about cakes. Don't think anyone has got the reference

lemon drizzle
cheese scones

Cowardlybitch · 15/11/2024 23:28

Weirdly (to my mind, being a chocolate fan), Lemon Drizzle. Although Nigella's Guinness cake has already been requested for retirement do in Jan. That is also v popular in our office.

These two cakes have given me so many compliments and both can be made gluten free. chocolate fudge cake -use half the filling recipe if you don’t want to cover the top.

I do this using frozen strawberries and it’s fought over! drizzle cake

Chocolate cake with slice cut on cake stand

Easy chocolate fudge cake

Lemon drizzle is very forgiving and nearly always turns out well. Otherwise tiffin.

LottieMary · 16/11/2024 08:11

Janes patisserie chocolate chip cookies would be great

Spidey66 · 16/11/2024 12:45

I don't hate chocolate brownies but would prefer lemon drizzle tbh.

Making them now, they're in the oven! They've spread a bit....
When do you cut them? When they're warmish? Orrr when they've cooled

If there is anyone gluten free they will be your biggest fan if you safely include them. We regularly get to sit and watch everyone else have cake, cookies etc. Flavour wise, vanilla traybake.

I used to make a GF apple cake when certain family members were visiting - contained ground almonds, was very moist and yummy.

Warmish, pretty much as soon as they come out . Hope I replied in time!

Yes they spread loads, go from thick sausages to thin biscuits
