What’s the universally best received homemade cake in a work place?

I think it’s brownies (no nuts). Everyone likes a homemade brownie.

I want to bake for my team this weekend. Needs to be something pre-portioned as no knives on site. Nothing fragile like cupcakes as need to take on the bus.

I prefer a flan.

That has reminded me, a bakewell tart is always yummy.

I like carrot cake but it’s so untransportable with all that cream cheese icing.

Rocky road excellent shout.

Lemon drizzle could be a good second cake.

What about a nice ginger cake?

Actually a parkin would be sturdy enough to travel in a tin and emerge unscathed.

Ooh a nice cheese flan.

I remember being on holiday with a friend and she was trying to choose a cake/biscuits to take back for her workmates. She that she didn't know why she was worrying, her workmates would eat anything that was put out in the kitchen, even cardboard.

For myself, I could have cake in the house for weeks without thinking about it but if someone put cake in my workplace, I would mow down small children to get a piece.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 15/11/2024 21:17

Lemon Drizzle for sure. Probably followed by a Victoria sandwich which jam and buttercream.

GoldenLegend · 15/11/2024 21:17

Lemon drizzle but it needs to be a good recipe. People like it because it's not too sickly or messy to eat.

GBNews · 15/11/2024 21:21

Lemon drizzle is like eating bleach. No way is it as universally popular as a victoria sponge or brown eye.

missymousey · 15/11/2024 21:22

Noooo not lemon drizzle! Yuck. Definitely brownies they're perfect.

No33 · 15/11/2024 21:23

I have found my people! I always get weird looks when I say I am not a brownie fan!

I agree with lemon drizzle

IDoLikeToBeByTheSea · 15/11/2024 21:25

Shortbread fingers. Easy to make a lot of them, easy to transport and dunkable!

ManchesterRoad · 15/11/2024 21:25

All this talk of lemon drizzle has reminded me of a cracking thread in classics if anyone wants to lose an hour of their evening:

I hate brownies, not a fan of chocolate cake at all. Love Victoria Sponge & Lemon Drizzle v nice too 🙂.

wherethewaterisdarker · 15/11/2024 21:27

Woahh who are all these lemon drizzle people?! I see that as quite a niche taste. Victoria sponge for me.

Lovelydovey · 15/11/2024 21:29

I bake fairly regularly for the office. Two stand out favourites of the teams are carrot cake and lemon, blueberry and almond loaf. But really anything disappears in seconds!

waits for the people who never eat home made cake because it's unclean

more for me...

Lovelydovey · 15/11/2024 21:30

One of my colleagues brings in home made panettone and billionaires shortbread. Neither of those last long (she hides me a piece as I sit in a different office now!)

lemon drizzle is far better than chocolate brownies any day of the week

it has flavour, its moist, its light and tangy

chocolate is great, as chocolate no need to do anything with it and butter makes the crumb or wrong in cake - you need oil

whyeyeeyeeyeeye · 15/11/2024 21:34

Panettone and flan as office sharing treats are both wild suggestions.

Vicky sponge isn’t going places in a tin either is it. Delicious though.

Is there any chance you could please post the recipe for the blueberry and almond loaf?
It sounds like such a lovely combination! Thanks!

And I am so confused about people who don’t like brownies

whats confusing about it?

brownies are boring and not that tasty

GBNews · 15/11/2024 21:38

Rocky roads are rubbish. Brownies trump them.

How about a flapjack?

Or lemon drizzle…yum

This one 😀

PinkTonic · 15/11/2024 21:39

Delia’s preserved ginger cake with lemon icing and Bakewell slice

Rowansiskin · 15/11/2024 21:39

Lemon drizzle all the way
