What’s the universally best received homemade cake in a work place?

I think it’s brownies (no nuts). Everyone likes a homemade brownie.

I want to bake for my team this weekend. Needs to be something pre-portioned as no knives on site. Nothing fragile like cupcakes as need to take on the bus.

The problem with Lemon Drizzle is that it does not go with coffee (according to The Archers).

I vote for Carrot Cake.

I agree, lemon drizzle. I personally dislike brownies and chocolate cakes so I would be sad with brownies!

I thought ai was the only one!

Can't go wrong with Victoria sponge - not a brownie fan myself - too chocolatey

I dislike brownies as I find them too rich and stodgy.

Rice crispie cake (as per my username 😂), anything lemony, blondies and millionaires shortbread are very well-received by me (though maybe that doesn't answer the OP's specific question!).

LittleGreenDuck · 15/11/2024 20:57

Really don't get the love for Lemon Drizzle. I'd go for anything chocolate, gooier the better.

StarDolphins · 15/11/2024 20:57

I LOVE any homemade cake but I really like Victoria sponge or carrot cake!

converseandjeans · 15/11/2024 20:58

Chocolate brownie or rocky road

waits for the people who never eat home made cake because it's unclean

This is me generally.

I once pulled out an extremely long hair from a homemade cake at work🤮

Hatty65 · 15/11/2024 20:59

I don't like brownies and I do love cake.

I'd make fruit buns.

Thedownsideisup · 15/11/2024 21:00

Lemon drizzle for me but DH can't stand it and loves brownies. I don't think there is a universally loved treat- maybe you could make two?

dontmindthegap · 15/11/2024 21:03

People still talk about my coffee and walnut cake and it’s been 12 years. Generally people have chocolate flavoured things fairly regularly so it doesn’t stand out

Gowlett · 15/11/2024 21:04

Problem is there’s good brownies & bad brownies.
Nothing worse than a good-looking one that doesn’t deliver.

Sunplanner · 15/11/2024 21:05

Another vote for Lemon Drizzle (aka Nigella Lemon Loaf Cake ). Double the recipe and make two at once

Bake in loaf tin(s) . Cool then slice with a very sharp knife at. Use a strip of greaseproof paper to lift the whole sliced cake into a plastic lunchbox for easy transport and removal at the other end.

It's pretty robust - had a big Lemon Drizzle cut into 12 slices survive for 48 hours in a rucksack like that - D of E expedition birthday!

Motheranddaughter · 15/11/2024 21:06

Caramel shortcake all the way

whyeyeeyeeyeeye · 15/11/2024 21:08

I like carrot cake but it’s so untransportable with all that cream cheese icing.

Rocky road excellent shout.

Lemon drizzle could be a good second cake.

What about a nice ginger cake?

Carrot cake with an icing made out of cream cheese and icing sugar

LakeFlyPie · 15/11/2024 21:08

This cake hands down 🥕

crockofshite · 15/11/2024 21:09

Coffee and walnut

Fuck lemon drizzle

It's a Victoria Sponge all day every day.

Especially mine, with blackcurrant jam. 😋. But I do like lemon drizzle, too. You can keep your brownies, though.

Oh yes, millionaires shortbread! A big hit in our workplace, although they like anything chocolatey really. I do a Rocky Road sometimes and chop up a Crunchie and Fudge bar to mix in (sometimes Smarties too if there are any in the cupboard).

Bluetrews25 · 15/11/2024 21:11

I don't think it matters
ANY cake will get eaten, surely?
When I do this, I cut the cake up and wrap each piece in greaseproof paper at home, more hygienic and tidier if you are doing something sticky that might be hard to separate or slightly crumbly that might fall apart!

Mars bar slices - fault proof! Rice crispies, melted mars bars, golden syrup, melted chocolate

A nice, gooey flapjack.
