Today, I was looking for an espresso cup and discovered that they are currently as rare as hens teeth.
While going into one of several charity shops in my town, I was shocked to see a coffee set in a dining set that I had.
This set was from the 60's and was only used for important occasions. I inherited it when my dad died and it sat in a cupboard gathering dust. My dad has been gone since 2005.
I was totally shocked, to the point where I apologised to the shop lady and explained the reason why I was.
15 minutes later, she had my entire collection and I now have an empty cupboard.
Had I not seen this, that set would have sat in a cupboard until I died.

I don't know why people are trying to be mean! They're so many things in the world that deserve for people to be scathing about them, but this is NOT one of them. People are really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

OP, I loved your story and had no trouble understanding it. Exactly the kind of funny thing that happens sometimes, that I would want to share with some nice people who would find it endearing.

I would be very excited if I recognised something from my childhood in a charity shop, though I am such a selfish hoarder, I probably would have bought more things to complete my set, rather than generously donating like you did.

One thing I did misunderstand from your OP was to do with the espresso cup. When you said I was looking for an espresso cup and discovered that they are currently as rare as hens teeth I took from that that it was a specific design you were looking for. That's why I asked about the image of the plate/bowl you posted. Was that the design of the set you gave away or are you looking for espresso cups in that design?

If you're just looking for any espresso cups Argos/Sains/Habitat do some nice ones, and TK Maxx always have them. I know because they're something I love to look at but resist buying because I don't make espresso at home.

I hope you can get past the initial disappointment of the thread going a bit astray and see that it made a lot of us smile and be happy for you at the same time.

This is sometimes how we get to know each other on here and rl - something a bit off track but mostly received in good humour.

My first post descended into a massive bunfight but I stuck around and have had fun and support amongst the odd disagreement since.

I hope you find some espresso cups. There are some good suggestions from previous posters about where to find them.

OMG I am so glad that you didnt post a pic of the JAJ Pyrex Chelsea pattern! I collect that because I got some from my parents as it was their wedding "china" and its also as rare as hens teeth. Actually it isnt that rare but it is expensive now despite being very affordable then. I would have been badgering you for the charity shops address!

My lovely MIL passed earlier this year. She and my FIL had the same set, which I think they bought in the 1970s to replace their 1950s crockery.
