I need to tell someone!

Today, I was looking for an espresso cup and discovered that they are currently as rare as hens teeth.
While going into one of several charity shops in my town, I was shocked to see a coffee set in a dining set that I had.
This set was from the 60's and was only used for important occasions. I inherited it when my dad died and it sat in a cupboard gathering dust. My dad has been gone since 2005.
I was totally shocked, to the point where I apologised to the shop lady and explained the reason why I was.
15 minutes later, she had my entire collection and I now have an empty cupboard.
Had I not seen this, that set would have sat in a cupboard until I died.

I think that's wonderful; you reunited the set and maybe someone else will use and enjoy it!

I’m not being funny Stace but you what you just said was really boring, you need to get a life.

I imagined a much more dated looking china. Glad you have found a good home for it. I am wondering why you have a shopping trolley at home though?

One of these I imagine.
I've toyed with getting one.

I find it sad that people think I'm not all there.
All I wanted to do was share something that had happened to me. I have noone else in my life to share random omg moments with.

You could do with brushing up on your communication skills so that people can understand what you're trying to say. No point getting frustrated when people don't understand you. When you write something, before you post/send it read it back to yourself and see if it would make sense to someone with no knowledge of the situation.

@Caswallonthefox I understood your first post easily and as a charity shop manager - can I just say a massive massive thank you for supporting us.

also - Sainsbury’s do some nice espresso cups.

Etsy have some lovely ones and vinted and eBay have a stash. Facebook marketplace is often a good place to look.

If you get desperate I can send you some from the chaps stash that he never bloody uses.

Caswallonthefox · 13/11/2024 00:28

Oh and cuz I can.
There are 10 charity shops in my town, none had espresso cups.
Sainsbury's didn't, QD didn't, ROYS didn't.
Originally I was looking for espresso cups.
I have a sports direct bag and my ex husband ( the areshole) had the cup.

Because I click and collect my monthly grocery shop.

I get it now.
But I must say, in general I find the quality of writing (in general) is going downhill. The level of missing detail in some posts is significant. You shouldn't have to be inside someones head to work out what they have written and what their point is.

Stop.

I was awarded international first prize for my English language, RSA stage III paper (the technical college I attended did not teach A level courses) in 1983. My written English and my comprehension is extremely good. I had no difficulty whatsoever in understanding OP’s initial post.

(Incidentally, sentences should not begin with but, your second use of in general was superfluous, “someones” to denote possession requires the use of an apostrophe and “one ought not” rather than “you should not” is received standard English.)

Anonymousess · 13/11/2024 00:32

To be fair OP, your first post was a bit confusing. It almost seemed like you were so
moved by what you saw that you would buy the entire set…but then you had an empty cupboard. So it took an unexpected route!

Hopefully someone will get joy out of the set, and you’re able to find the cup that you’re looking for.

I posted a thread years ago that went sideways like this OP, it was quite funny, but at the time I was disappointed because I was excited and had no one else to tell, and the whole thread was derailed!

I got what you meant, it's nice that your dad's set will have a lovely new home. Someone will be absolutely delighted with it!

HollyKnight · 13/11/2024 00:33

Sainsbury's has espresso cups (and saucers). You can order them for home delivery with your groceries.

Talking of quality of writing - you need to concentrate on your own. You've missed an apostrophe.

She says, with punctuation missing!

Punctuation may well be missing. It doesn't need to be perfect, just enough for people to understand you.

the coffee set is what op spotted in the charity shop 😂

Why did you apologise???

Because I was standing in the middle of her shop totally amazed that the same set as was in my cupboard was in front of me.
I have never seen it anywhere before now.
The set was created somewhere in the 60's as far as I know.

It's lovely that you're supporting charity shops and not just buying new. Very thoughtful.

Some charities have online shops. Oxfam has some espresso cups: https://onlineshop.oxfam.org.uk/

EconomyClassRockstar · 13/11/2024 00:42

@MrsSkylerWhite You made me guffaw! Apologies in advance if that is grammatically incorrect 😂

@Caswallonthefox I understood exactly what you were saying. I love my parents' china set but live overseas so when my last living parent dies, as much as I'd love to have it, it doesn't make any sense to spend that much shipping it out. Instead, I have cultivated my own set....which my kids will probably shove in a cupboard until they find a matching coffee set and donate it! I hope you found some peace from it.

Do you still live near where you grew up? Chances are your dad acquired it locally at the time so more sets could be floating around in your area. It may have even been given to the charity shop under similar circumstances
