I’m scared now I’ve realised this

I was thinking that the US public wouldn’t vote for Trump now that it is so apparent he is such a fascist. It’s terrifying to realise that they already know that and that is why they are going to vote for him.
I’m scared for the world.

Insulting women you disagree with is not a good look.

You've used that one already. 🧐

Oh ok I if people get offended for facts then that's on them.

I used the word 'fuck' which was wrong of me, but then I was being accused of being aligned with a right wing rapist : (

lifeturnsonadime · 01/11/2024 12:44

So why isn't it for all of the Trump voters?

Are they all deranged or may some of them be dissatisfied with the Harris prospect?

That's one for the sociologists, isn't it?
I don't think voters are deranged.

Well that's good so shall we use this thread to address some of the reasons why the non deranged voters might want to vote for Trump rather than Harris?

The OP is worried for the world. She thinks they are voting for him because they know he's a fascist -

this is the OP post -

I think some of them are voting for him because they know he's a fascist but I suspect many of them are voting for him because they are not happy with the prospect of another 4 years of the democrats.

I am discussing some of the reasons that might be.

There is a small but not insignificant sector of the electorate who thinks that Trump personally is odious, but that his policies were better for the country than the Democrats who came before and after him. They may also be concerned by Harris' policy position when she ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, many of which she has now flipped on because they are considered too extreme.

I would say they are conflicted, not deranged.

Since abortion law has been put back to each state, maternal mortality has increased

The USA’s MMR went from 32.9 in 2021 to 22.3 in 2022. It’s been below 21 since December 2022 and below 20 provisionally for 20224 so far.

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/provisional-maternal-deaths-rates.htm (figure 1, click the + for data table)

And it’s speculation that lack of abortion access has led to this. Covid deaths in pregnancy, lack of other health care, generally shit care of women all plays a role. It’s been generally rising steadily for decades, jumped up in Covid, then dropped again.

There’s no doubt lack of access to abortion threatens women’s lives. But deaths correlating with Trump’s actions is speculative.

Trump’s claim that he will protect women is worse than laughable. It is obscene.

So is Harris’s. She won’t protect women in sport. In contact sport. In schools. In college competitions. In the changing rooms. She won’t protect children from being sterilised. She won’t protect girls from having mastectomies. She won’t protect women in prisons who are housed with violent male offenders. She won’t protect those women and girls.

That’s the bind, isn’t it? Whose lack of protection of women is going to make the biggest difference to those voters? It works both ways. When abortion rights worsen the Democrats will tell Trump voters “you voted for this.” When another girl gets sexually assaulted by a trans identifying boy the Republicans will tell the Harris voters “you voted for this.”

I find Trump despicable, but I find it equally despicable that there isn’t a genuine option to protect women’s rights in their entirety.

I take your point regarding the headline figures, as far as they go. However it appears that the consensus amongst the CDC, the NIH and others is that that 2021 figure was largely down to Covid.

Most compelling is a World Population Report state-by-state breakout of American maternal deaths for 2024 to some recent point. California is the most populous state, with over 40M people. Yet Texas, 2nd (I think) in population has well over 2x as many deaths, 400+ vs 170+. Demographics in TX and CA are similar. We know which one has draconian abortion laws. The very populous NY state is up there, 200+, but the other 2 states in the top 5 are Tennessee (small) and Georgia (moderate), both of which have severely restricted abortion.

The trend continues downwards. I am not expert on the populations and abortion regs of every state, but anyone reasonably familiar with the US can see it.

TooBigForMyBoots · 31/10/2024 20:54

Oh and I'm sorry you don't believe her as well @Linzi2377, because it's attitudes like yours that allow abusers and rapists freedom to continue to wreck women's and children's lives.

Trump has said that he will leave abortion rights with the States as they are at the moment. It is not good if you are in a religious State like Texas, but if Harris does win the house it is unclear if she could do anything about this anyway.

She has said she may take away the fillibuster and pack the Sentate with more Left wing judges but this would fundimentally take away the checks and balances that have existed in the constitution.

The danger with the Harris/Walz ticket is that they will implement hate crime and hate speech legislation that will make the trans issue unable to be discussed and continue the affirmation only model that is destroying children's bodies through puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and surgery. In Minnessota Walz allows children to be taken from parents if they do not affirm transition.

poetryandwine · 01/11/2024 13:12

Edit: it’s the World Population Review

The report also gives the 5 states with highest maternal mortality: with the exception of New Jersey they all have draconian abortion laws (Mississippi, Louisiana, Indiana and I think Arkansas)

Totally agree with your second paragraph.

So if the Republicans lose this presidential race they have to take responsibility for that. They chose a criminal, rapist demagogue. The Democrats didn't pick Trump for them.

I have noticed a recent worrying, tendency of right whingers to not take responsibility for their actions. It's not a good look, after all if they refuse to take responsibility for themselves how can they be trusted to be a responsible government?

They picked an awful candidate.

Begsthequestion · 01/11/2024 13:34

The fact that a known serial rapist is up for re-election is one of the most depressing things about 2024.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/11/2024 14:03

I don't think Trump fits the criteria for fascist at all (or nazi, racist, dictator, misogynist) but I have HUGE concerns about the lengths the establishment have gone to to have him silenced.

So you don't think that being a rapist and repeat sex offender makes a Trump a misogynist @lifeturnsonadime? Or that trying to steal an election and causing violent insurrection to overthrow the democratic result makes him a facist?🤯

As for having him silenced he never stops running his mouth off.🙄 Most recently in his comments about Liz Cheney.

I don't think you know what words actually mean. Your hyperbole and confusing feelings with facts shows this.

Jom222 · 01/11/2024 14:17

poetryandwine · 01/11/2024 11:43

I agree that Obama backed away.

Harris has not had a chance to meet this promise, as the VP has no power to do so. Thus one cannot criticise her at present on this point.

I understand that you disagree with the Dems position on transgender rights. As someone who took US citizenship I follow mainstream American news rather carefully and I don’t sense that most people are thinking much about transgender issues at all.

exactly correct, not one person has mentioned trans rights in any convo re the upcoming election, on tv or irl. Its certainly an issue that needs addressing but the 2 main topics currently being hammered on by everybody in america are the economy and abortion rights.

The trans problem is TINY in comparison to the above esp as relates to the election. We're worried about a potential fascist that could literally destroy the nation while a few hundred trans 'girls' are causing real problems for a few thousand natal girls. With over 300 million US citizens this is a very very small issue comparatively. I'm not discounting it, this is a real problem but it can be dealt with later and there won't be agreement so it will be messy. trump and Harris aren't focused on it and the poster who keeps blasting the thread about it is wrong re the US appetite to vote based on it alone.

Begsthequestion · 01/11/2024 14:18

The man's main defence against accusations of rape was "she's not my type".

He calls immigrants sub human.

He repeats Hitler's actual phrases in his speeches.

He calls neo-nazis "good people".

He wants to use violence on his political opponents.

He states he'll blame Jewish people if he loses.

He wants to be a dictator and have generals who behave like Hitler's did (not knowing that they tried to kill Hitler twice).

He's a textbook case of a racist, misogynistic fascist.

Good luck America.

Those are not words I have used in this thread or any other.

Why are you trying to misrepresent my position?

lifeturnsonadime · 01/11/2024 14:26

lifeturnsonadime · 30/10/2024 08:45

There is no doubt, in my mind, that Trump is a misogynist.

But all this talk of him walking in on 15 year old in a beauty pageant is so hypocritical when the democrats think that women and girls should have males in their spaces if they utter the magic words 'I am a woman'.

Listen to the voices of the female athletes losing opportunities and being subject to voyeurism if they refuse to believe that man is a woman. They are being threatened and called bigots and having opportunities removed.

Trump is a misogynist but so is Harris because she refuses to listen to these women and is complicit in dismantling single sex spaces and opportunities for women.

Horrible time to be a woman in the USA terrible misogyny both sides of the political divide.

@TooBigForMyBoots this is my position on Trump and misogyny.

What I have said is 'there is no doubt in my mind that Trump is a misogynist.

I would appreciate it if you would get your facts straight and stop misrepresenting me.

But obviously his supporters don't think he's racist, fascist, misogynist, stupid.
Why do you think Trump is those things?
Do you have the same concerns about the opposition? No concerns about what they've done ro try and stop trump from running?

Why have you attributed another posters words to me @TooBigForMyBoots ?

poetryandwine · 01/11/2024 14:50

Hi, @Deja321

I have read many interviews in mainstream US media with Trump supporters who do believe that he is racist, sexist, possibly fascist, etc. They just don’t care. Either they agree or they (claim to) support the policies rather than the man.

Part of the problem with the gender bollocks, that hardly anyone talks about, is if people come out publically (as Harris has done) saying they think men can turn in to women at the drop of a few "prerferred pronons", and gender is more important than sex etc, then huge swathes of the population will make at least one of the following assumptions:

  • they are lying;
  • they are lying for their own perceived gain or to gain societal advantage from saying what they believe is fashionable at the expence of truth & reality;
  • their lies do actual real immeasurable harm;
  • if they lie about such a fundamental truth that sex exists & it is important and immutable, they will lie about anything;
  • therefore anyone spouting the gender bollocks lies render themselves completely untrustworthy.

The gender bollocks beclowns all who spout that they believe in it.

Its an own goal for the democrats and Trump will exploit that ruthlessly.

Telling the world people can "transition" and "change sex" and children should have access to "gender medicine" which causes irrefutable irreversible harm, in the face of all evidence to the contrary damages society.

If you deny basic fundamental truths such as "1 + 1 = 2 " and Human sex is binary, everything else you say is undermined & rendered an untruth.

Kamala Harris and the democrats have served themselves a massive own goal and I do not think they will be able to win this election.

Well obviously I don't know that he is a rapist or serial sex offender. It's a possibility but i don't blindly believe everything that is said about him and because I listen to people outside of our mainstream media, I hear alot of women who have known him for years, worked for him, speak very highly of him. Should I ignore their testimonies and only listen to people like you who have never met him?
And I don't believe that biden/obama/clinton's etc are good people.

I don't know that he tried to overthrow the election. I think he and his supporters had serious concerns re voter fraud so held a protest. He said march peacefully and patriotically which the vast majority did. And he left the white house afterwards. Do you condemn other protests/riots or are they acceptable if you agree with the cause?

And who died that day? Ashley Babbit an unarmed Trump supporter. They shot her dead but they labelled her a domestic terrorist so many of you would think her murder was justified. I didn't think it was.

Yes I think they have gone to great lengths to have him silenced. They really couldn't have done much more. There's huge double standard and bias when it comes to media reporting.
If I was him I would have given up by now
He certainly doesn't need the money.

Like I said if you don't like him fine, don't vote for him. Just stop the lies and trying to silence and demonise anyone who doesn't vote the same as you. Alot of people that hate trump hate him because the media told them to. Saying you care about women or ethnic minorities, but again only if they think the same as you. Anyone that dares to have a different opinion or raise concerns about the democrats gets abuse or told to be silent.

You are the one being blind.

When did he do that? Are you talking about the 'grab them by the p*ssy thing'? I have listened to that audio from years ago and it seemed very obvious to me that he was joking and he said it was 'locker room talk'. I understand if you found it offensive and crude but I struggle to believe that you couldn't pick up that it was a joke, not a confession. Do you honestly believe he walked up to women and did that?
What about Bidens inappropriate behaviour? Clinton's?
