I’m scared now I’ve realised this

I was thinking that the US public wouldn’t vote for Trump now that it is so apparent he is such a fascist. It’s terrifying to realise that they already know that and that is why they are going to vote for him.
I’m scared for the world.

Its definitely not looking good.

Im scared for women in the USA

Mudflaps · 29/10/2024 11:38

I've been listening to a few podcasts regarding the election, one focuses on the lies he and his team tells. It is absolutely astonishing the amount and seriousness of the lies and yet no main stream media reports this or questions him. The future of women in America is going to be very dangerous if he wins. It's also very frightening because he has said he will go after those who haven't supported him and I believe that includes other countries. His relationship with Puten and Musk is terrifying.

Paisleydad · 29/10/2024 15:54

I'm tired of the inane name calling and nonsense that he spouts. Gobsmacked that so many people are taken in. No substance to him at all.

How anybody can consider supporting him, particularly women given his attitudes and lack of filter, baffles me.

KizzyDora · 29/10/2024 15:57

Surely people are voting for the party they feel has the best polices and not actually just for Trump?

ssd · 29/10/2024 16:03

No they are voting purely for Trump

sofialiliy11 · 29/10/2024 16:08

The Simple answer is some people like misogynistic, racist leaders because they are misogynistic and racist themselves

Yeah there's definitely a lot of them.

I definitely don't want trump in AGAIN.

It felt like it was so long when we had him last time.

We don't need another trump era

The US is hugely racist and misogynistic. Not saying we don't have plenty of it over here, but over there it's horrific in some areas.

sofialiliy11 · 29/10/2024 16:14

The US election is so ridiculous anyway. Even if you get the most votes, you don't always win.

Trump didn't get the most votes in 2016, and he won because of their electoral college system and became president

PortobelloToad · 29/10/2024 16:16

It’s frightening. Cult of Personality. My brother and his family are moving to the US next year. I’m worried for my nieces 😕

We have the same in the UK though with our FPTP system.

It is scary. I have a family in a sure hold democrat state and others in a VERY republican one. I wouldn't want to be in either TBH.

Fully aware we have out own shit show here but not on the same scale.

What's that?

I'm not in the UK.

We dont have anything similiar to the electoral college in my country

What about all the black Trump voters? The Cubans seem to vote for him in high numbers too. Racist against themselves?

I just looked it up.

It's not really similiar though is it.

The different states in the USA have different amounts of votes.

For example California has around 50 votes, whereas another state will have only 5 votes.

MargaretThursday · 29/10/2024 16:23

Remember that Hitler was voted in.

Never underestimate someone who leads people who are blind to their failings whatever they do.

Victoriancat · 29/10/2024 16:24

As much as I don't like a lot of his views, as someone married to an American - our financial situation was great when Trump was in

I think him being accused of sexual assault by 27 women, and now him being a convicted criminal,

Is probably more important than that though

Similar, in that it depends how the votes are distributed amongst the constituencies to how many seats in parliament a party will end up with. In theory, if there were only 2 parties, a party could get 49.9% of the votes in each constituency but get no seats in parliament at all.

I wouldn’t vote for someone racist and misogynistic just because I’d be financially better off. How abhorrent. Taking away women’s reproductive rights? But you pay less tax so yay!

Yeah but if they got over 50% of the votes in a constituency , they would get in right.

Hilary Clinton got more votes than Trump overall, and he won, not her.

I remember reading somewhere that no country has a voting system like the US.

Their system was established to try to keep all of the states happy.

That's not how it works in the US.

When you vote for the President it is very much for the person
