Toothbrush holders that don't become disgusting

InvisibleRadiator · 26/10/2024 22:08

In my mind I can imagine the perfect toothbrush holder that doesn't slowly fill up with a pool of disgusting mouldy water. But does such a thing exist?
It basically needs to let any water completely escape in order to easily evaporate. The one we have is a "nice" one from Brabantia that even with its "removable easy clean base" gets disgustingly mouldy after a few weeks/months of use.

Any recommendations? TIA!

We are a hard water area, does that make it worse?

I was hoping for an easy answer too OP. Unfortunately the easy way doesn't seem to be the cheapest. I don't own or have room for a dishwasher 😩

What do you dry it on?

a flannel…

a flannel…

So I brush my teeth and dry the brush on the side of the flannel…I fill the sink and wash my face with the flannel and dry with a small towel…flannel goes in the wash.

A bowl of hot soapy water does the job. Presumably you wash up more than once a week.

Just dry your toothbrush before you put it back!? I thought everyone did this…mine is fine, never fills up with water.

Yep, this.

TossedSaladandSE · 26/10/2024 23:33

I use normal mugs as toothbrush holders which go into the dishwasher on a regular basis

TossedSaladandSE · 26/10/2024 23:34

Electric toothbrushes go back on their chargers

Goatshavehairyfeet · 26/10/2024 23:47

Sorry, are we ignoring the poster who said they put their toothbrush in the dishwasher?! Or does everyone do this and I’ve never known that’s a thing!

Wash it weekly. Job done

I agree.

It's not the holder, it's the fact it's not being cleaned. Everything gets dirty if it isn't cleaned.

It is only the grandchildren’s toothbrushes (we have electric). They all have toothbrushes at our house and they can get really bad if they use them and then don’t use them for a while so after each one has visited I put their toothbrush in the dishwasher. This works well.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 26/10/2024 23:56

I just stick it the dishwasher every week
Or so.

BarMonaco · 26/10/2024 23:57

I bought a couple of plastic flower pots with holes in the bottom and put it in the dishwasher once a week

BertieBotts · 26/10/2024 23:57

I don't think it's a thing. I had ours on a spoon holder thing for a while and it still got covered in toothpaste residue. It just has to be cleaned every so often.

KarlaKK · 26/10/2024 23:59

I've also got the Muji rings. I bought them as I don't want to clean toothbrush holders/mugs. I know it is only a minute to do and can be done when cleaning the bathroom but it is just one job I wanted to eliminate.

Yep, this.

Yes agree or swish out toothbrush holder every day, takes 2 seconds 🤦‍♀️

One is upstairs and one is downstairs, with a foggy brain and multiple things to bring up/down in between. I rarely have empty hands when on the stairs. Add in disability and it's actually not as easy as one would assume.

I have this. It does go yucky in the bottom but then I put it in the dishwasher. I also put toothbrushes in the dishwasher.

I have never heard of anyone doing this in my life.

However I have read (maybe here on MN) about someone who put their toilet brush into the dishwasher but I always thought it was a wind up.

Suri toothbrush, magnetic holder. Love mine for this reason! Have 4 in our house. Charge last for over a month too.

I bought one of these last week and was very pleased with it, initially - seemed better than my old electric toothbrush and thought it would be loads better than the battery one I normally use on holiday. I’m now three days into a three week trip, it has completely stopped working and I’m having to use the crappy free toothbrush from my airline amenity kit! It's fully charged, seems to be a problem with the on/off switch. I am soooo pissed off!

Toothbrushes in the dishwasher too? Shock

mathanxiety · 27/10/2024 03:09

I use a chunky glass vase that gets a whirl in the dishwasher once a week.

MainStreetOrHighStreet · 27/10/2024 05:44

Suri owners, do the magnetic holders attach to tiles?

Vettrianofan · 27/10/2024 06:39

I use a plastic jug to put all six toothbrushes in, the handle broke years ago, so it got repurposed as a toothbrush holder. I wash it out once a week when I clean my bathroom. Easy.

dragonfliesandbees · 27/10/2024 07:00

peekaboopumpkin · 26/10/2024 22:58

It doesn't exist. Just buy two of the same dishwasher proof cup, it doesn't have to be a special toothbrush holder one. Swap the toothbrushes to the spare one whenever you clean the sink, stick the dirty one in the dishwasher. Easy.

Sorry OP, anything you leave for weeks/months without cleaning is going to be grim. You have to clean things if you want them to be clean. It’s that simple. This is probably the quickest/easiest way to deal with your (non) issue.

MainStreetOrHighStreet · 27/10/2024 05:44

Yes, mine have been stuck on tiles about a year with no sign of movement. Love them, think we get over a month charge on them too. We send back the heads to recycle.

JusttheStart · 27/10/2024 07:42

We use these metal holders which stick to tiles then unscrew by hand to clean (or otherwise a simple wipe clean weekly with a sponge without unscrewing the unit ).

We can also 'hang' the electric toothbrush. This is a double one but there are larger sizes.
