Toothbrush holders that don't become disgusting

In my mind I can imagine the perfect toothbrush holder that doesn't slowly fill up with a pool of disgusting mouldy water. But does such a thing exist?
It basically needs to let any water completely escape in order to easily evaporate. The one we have is a "nice" one from Brabantia that even with its "removable easy clean base" gets disgustingly mouldy after a few weeks/months of use.

Any recommendations? TIA!

We are a hard water area, does that make it worse?

Joseph Joseph Easy-Store - Large Toothbrush Holder Caddy, Bathroom Storage - White/Grey https://amzn.eu/d/imu4LRO

I have this it comes to pieces for easy cleaning.
There was a thread recently on this if you search.

I have this. It does go yucky in the bottom but then I put it in the dishwasher. I also put toothbrushes in the dishwasher.

I don’t keep my toothbrush in the same room as the toilet. I let it air dry in a more hygienic place and don’t use a holder.

peekaboopumpkin · 26/10/2024 22:58

It doesn't exist. Just buy two of the same dishwasher proof cup, it doesn't have to be a special toothbrush holder one. Swap the toothbrushes to the spare one whenever you clean the sink, stick the dirty one in the dishwasher. Easy.

I have the Joseph Joseph holder that fits neatly out of sight in the bathroom cabinet. It doesn't fill with water, but it gets lobbed in the dishwasher once a week, to deal with the 'toothbrush jerky' that gathers. Nice.

I'm looking to save myself time. I have messy children and don't really want to add "dry your toothbrushes" to my eleventy million items long list of instructions for them! That is also why the holders get water in them.
I also don't want to have to clean it every week.
C'mon people, we can send humans to space, surely we can crack this problem!

My grandkids use the toothbrushes with the suction bottoms. They just park them on the window sill. No need for a holder but the window sill needs a bit of a wipe round.

When they stay at mine they plant them in the bedroom away from the toilet because I can’t deal with toothbrushes and a toilet in the same room 😬

Where do you keep it? Out of interest..

Brainded · 26/10/2024 23:02

Do people not shut the toilet lids when they flush?

Try something like this

https://amzn.eu/d/crZPTqZ

I have one of these in chrome. Works perfectly as nowhere for gunk to accumulate.

kitsuneghost · 26/10/2024 23:05

Just wash it regular

A little bit more hygienic I suppose but not majorly…

Often the “old enough to go by themselves” grandchildren don’t (if they flush at all) 😬

Hopefully no aerosolised fecal matter floating around in there anyway

This thread is opening my eyes to realise that people don’t do a lot of things I assumed everyone does…

Stopcoughing · 26/10/2024 23:08

Kitchen roll in bottom of holder, absorbs any water, chuck paper, clean holder, new kitchen roll 2 times a week...repeat.

Mayoontheside · 26/10/2024 23:08

Suri toothbrush, magnetic holder. Love mine for this reason! Have 4 in our house. Charge last for over a month too.

There’s one who, if she makes it to the toilet at all it’s a good day… 😬

QueSyrahSyrah · 26/10/2024 23:09

My DH has cracked this problem by repeatedly putting his wet toothbrush into my toothbrush mug

We have one each as we both have electric toothbrushes and we each use a different toothpaste. I dry my brush every time. He doesn't. I hate the gunk so ending up washing it out every other day.

It'll probably end up being my 'glass by the dishwasher'.

edited to say the above is light-hearted. I love him really. Toothbrush gunk and all.

Well if you strip in there and fart in there frequently enough…we shed 400,000 skin cells a minute when standing still @AgileGreenSeal and we always have a portion of fecal matter on our bodies at any one time. Fecal matter is pretty much everywhere.

shellyleppard · 26/10/2024 23:12

I have ones that attach to the wall. They are circular and have space for 3 toothbrushes and a gap in the middle for a cup or razors

PickAChew · 26/10/2024 23:13

I have something along these lines.

I just take it apart and chuck it in the dishwasher once per week.

Well if you don't want to clean something like that it IS going to get dirty, no matter what you wish for.

Just dry your toothbrush before you put it back!? I thought everyone did this…mine is fine, never fills up with water.

What do you dry it on?
