Toothbrush holders that don't become disgusting

In my mind I can imagine the perfect toothbrush holder that doesn't slowly fill up with a pool of disgusting mouldy water. But does such a thing exist?
It basically needs to let any water completely escape in order to easily evaporate. The one we have is a "nice" one from Brabantia that even with its "removable easy clean base" gets disgustingly mouldy after a few weeks/months of use.

Any recommendations? TIA!

We are a hard water area, does that make it worse?

Joseph Joseph do one with a small opening at the bottom of the container where the water can drain out but TBH if you leave it on your wash stand or the surrounds to the basin, it dribbles on those.

We had 2 of the Joseph & Joseph smaller ones - ours is fine because we properly rinse our toothbrushes and regularly clean the holder. My teen DC's one was so VILE I chucked it out & now they use the small Ikea glass tumblers & are on very regular rotation into the dishwasher

We use a mug. That way it can be changed daily, weekly or whatever, and the dirty one just goes in the dishwasher with everything else. We have so many bloody mugs it's ridiculous, so it seemed an ideal solution...

I'm looking to save myself time. I have messy children and don't really want to add "dry your toothbrushes" to my eleventy million items long list of instructions for them! That is also why the holders get water in them.
I also don't want to have to clean it every week.
C'mon people, we can send humans to space, surely we can crack this problem!

Clean it weekly when you clean your bathroom, rinse and wipe the toothbrushes after use.

It doesn't add that much time!

I have the exact same problem- even with regular washing it was still foul!

I bought the Joseph Joseph one and drilled 8 small holes across the bottom bit, so water no longer collects but drains straight out. I usually lift it and give the basin a quick wipe every day or so, and then properly wash the holder in the dishwasher when the bathroom gets cleaned.

You clean your sink every week, presumably? Why not your toothbrush holder?

Mine's just a plain white ceramic cup that I bring down to run through the dishwasher every so often.

Toothbrush holders/pots or whatever are literally next to the sink, it takes seconds to clean it out then put the brushes back in so they shouldn’t get full of manky water, it’s right there, hot running water, just do that every so often.

People dry toothbrusges?!

Sgtmajormummy · 28/10/2024 22:46

A powerful spray of Cillit Bang or Viakal and a scrub out once a week.
And shake your blummin’ toothbrushes dry over the sink before you put them back, people.
Yuk!

Surprisingly not many people do, we're a lid down household, majority of guests we have leave the lid up.
I was always taught to leave things as you find them too!

It makes a limited difference in terms of the amount of airborne crap flying around the bathroom
