Toothbrush holders that don't become disgusting

In my mind I can imagine the perfect toothbrush holder that doesn't slowly fill up with a pool of disgusting mouldy water. But does such a thing exist?
It basically needs to let any water completely escape in order to easily evaporate. The one we have is a "nice" one from Brabantia that even with its "removable easy clean base" gets disgustingly mouldy after a few weeks/months of use.

Any recommendations? TIA!

We are a hard water area, does that make it worse?

those toothbrush holders that attach to tiles?

Mydoghealsmyheart · 26/10/2024 22:12

I’m on the lookout for the same type of thing OP. You’re right, they do get really disgusting. I had considered wall mounted holders but then I’m sure everyone would just put wet toothbrushes back and the drips would fall down the tiles.

I use ceramic holders and put them in the dishwasher. Why are they getting so full of water??

Joesph Joesph one is easy to clean

Just dry your toothbrush before you put it back!? I thought everyone did this…mine is fine, never fills up with water.

I use one of those metal shower tray things for shampoo and such that I stick to the wall/outside of the shower glass (similar to the suction cups but with strong stickers instead) because I haaatted the big yukky water. So far so good, it's been almost a year and none of that gunky water and it fits everybody toothbrush and paste in it well

I have these muji ones. They're little circular stands for one toothbrush each and they have no base so the water just runs through.

We put ours in a drawer underneath the sink as I don't like the idea of them coming into contact with any bacteria floating around!

bifurCAT · 26/10/2024 22:22

A regular glass beaker that you can throw in the dishwasher.

I can see your logic but unless the drawer is airtight then that’s not gonna work.

Wash it weekly. Job done

That is the kind of elegant and simple design I am looking for! I just need one for an electric toothbrush too...
Although our toothbrushes live on a windowsill above the sink, so I would need to consider how much of a pool of water it would create.

Thats what I do. Disgusted people don’t think to wash their toothbrush holder. 🤢

Snoopsnoggysnog · 26/10/2024 22:28

i have a wire basket thing from Amazon. Works well.

Soontobe60 · 26/10/2024 22:30

Toothbrushes go in a metal toothbrush cup in the bathroom cabinet. The cup gets cleaned out weekly when I clean the bathroom.

InvisibleRadiator · 26/10/2024 22:30

I'm looking to save myself time. I have messy children and don't really want to add "dry your toothbrushes" to my eleventy million items long list of instructions for them! That is also why the holders get water in them.
I also don't want to have to clean it every week.
C'mon people, we can send humans to space, surely we can crack this problem!

I have a Joseph Joseph one which has a vent at the bottom and comes apart for cleaning

@InvisibleRadiator I suppose that would be harder to I still when they are used to not drying them. We all just dry them because that’s what we have always done…

Harder to instill…

This just seems like more work and wouldn’t fit on all sinks

EvelynSalt · 26/10/2024 22:49

I have one of these on the way for the same issue, hopefully it works! Supposedly water absorbent as it's made of diatomaceous earth. amzn.eu/d/ezsFg52

Try something like this

@InvisibleRadiator I fold a piece of kitchen roll and put it at the bottom of the toothbrush holder, and change it every few days. It works a treat
