Who will win US Election - Gut feelings

EveryBiteinBangkok · 24/10/2024 13:00

I have been half following online and media coverage of the US Election. It is getting close now. What is your gut feeling on who is going to win?

About a month ago, I felt fairly confident that Kamala Harris would win (who I want to win). Now though I am not sure and the amount of rumour and almost conspiracy around it online seems to be reaching fever pitch.

If you had to place a bet (grand national style) who would you go for?

Does he have a grandiose personality disorder where he thinks he will be great and he will make America great again?

That speech was nonsense and sounded like it belonged to a drunk person and not someone looking to be president.

At least he said something. She didn't have the grace to come out and speak with the people that helped and worked for her

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2024 15:25

Vice President Harris is expected to address her supporters and the nation this afternoon from Howard University.

There will be a peaceful transfer of power. No on will deny the results. No one will stage an insurrection.

I’m sure they’ll be along to applaud your better judgement too.

What happened to that predication that has predicted it right the last ten times or something. Someone posted a link before that he was predicting Kamala quite confidently. Does he say how he got it wrong?

Allan Lichtman

I thought of him today, him and his keys

EasternStandard · 06/11/2024 18:05

I read many articles on who would win, some of the surety around Harris has interesting

One said due to rallies being full, it was a bit of a sugar high though, all that celeb stuff

@EasternStandard

"Allan Lichtman

Apparently as the results came in he kept repeating this isn't possible. Then went off air and is now refusing to do any interviews.

Ah @1dayatatime thanks for the update

I bet

It was a bit like the time the late Paddy Ashdown MP said on air ( on tv ) he would 'eat his hat ' if the lib Dems lost seats and when they did he wasn't too impressed when someone put a hat in front of him. Be careful what you say ( or predict it seems )

EasternStandard · 06/11/2024 18:32

That Iowa poll was a clanger too

I woke at 3am and saw that result, then listened until 6am

Are they LDS? A lot of the instamums are, in which case they're mostly in Utah, which is always red, so their votes won't change any results.

no they’re not actually, but they are all religious. Complete range of states.

J D Vance happens, God help us all.

What's the problem with J. D Vance?

Hard right extremist associated to Project 2025

Talkinpeace · 06/11/2024 19:30

Trump is dumb and nasty.
Vance is smart and nasty.

A homophobic misogynist who wants to roll back the rights of everybody except straight white Christian men
See Project 2025 for full details

Vance is really concerning

ChannelLightVessel · 06/11/2024 20:12

XH in Philadelphia v upset. Terrible result for LGBTQ+ Americans like him.

Talkinpeace · 06/11/2024 22:28

Sorry but your ex husband is not "LGBTQ+"
by definition he is not lesbian
and nobody knows what "Q" and "+" stand for

the forced teaming and gaslighting is what caused the mess

ChannelLightVessel · 06/11/2024 23:10

LGBTQ+ is a pretty well-used umbrella term and I said Americans plural. I guess it would be more precise to say ‘members of the US LGBTQ+ community’, but it was a quick social media post, not an essay. XH is, specifically, bisexual.

Talkinpeace · 07/11/2024 09:05

I know its a well used term.
And its part of the reason Harris lost.

Levine legalised the removal of healthy body parts from children while dressed like his ex wife.

BrandyandGinger · 07/11/2024 12:40

I think @Talkinpeace is making a valid point. College athletics and college sports scholarships are very important to middle class people in the US. Having trans athletes competing on high school and college women's teams is a very big issue which Harris didn't even try to address.
I don't blame her for not getting into in, it's an absolute minefield. However it's an issue that the Democrats are going to have to think about before the next election cycle.

1dayatatime · 07/11/2024 12:55

@Talkinpeace

"Trump is dumb and nasty.
Vance is smart and nasty."

From a left wing viewpoint this is a good summary and if you are worried about Trump then you should be petrified about JD Vance.

Of course from a right wing viewpoint it would be the opposite. But there is a strong chance Vance will be running for President in 2029.

The book and movie Hillbilly Elegy gives a good background on Vance's upbringing.
