Who will win US Election - Gut feelings

EveryBiteinBangkok · 24/10/2024 13:00

I have been half following online and media coverage of the US Election. It is getting close now. What is your gut feeling on who is going to win?

About a month ago, I felt fairly confident that Kamala Harris would win (who I want to win). Now though I am not sure and the amount of rumour and almost conspiracy around it online seems to be reaching fever pitch.

If you had to place a bet (grand national style) who would you go for?

"White women over 65 are voting for Kamala.

We were the first ones to get a credit card, own a home, divorce an abusive husband, and gain reproductive rights without a wire hanger. Fuck the GOP.
Post-menopausal feminists are going to bury MAGA." Jane of the North

My husband's ex wife's name is "Jane" and we refer to her as "Jane of the North" as she lives up there in Massachusetts, the North of the US! Your post sounds exactly like he describes YOU, Jane! Hard hell bent left, bleeding heart liberal, female, "Nazi-ish".

I'm not Jane. It was a quote.

Admit it, your the crazy ex wife. I bet you have all sorts of terrible lies you would tell about her husband were you ever to meet his new wife in person etc.

EveryBiteinBangkok · 04/11/2024 08:40

@Sheri99 I can understand that, my sense is the rest of the world thinks that too. It seems like it is endless and just dominates too much air time and social media etc. Now I realise even though this election is supposedly tomorrow the results could drag on for days or even weeks?!? Then takes until after Christmas for the change over of power. Everyone else seems to manage this all within a couple of days, so weird.

It is like WWE with the massively over the top rallies and name calling. I think everyone will be relieved when it is over. Just hope that both sides are gracious in both success and defeat.

  1. I've found a large, AI-driven bot network on X which is posting in support of Trump in the US election.

Trump sadly

just cant see american men voting in a female president

Well I can’t see American women voting in trump. And more women than men vote in the US I think?

Bookies have Trump as a red hot favourite. They’re rarely wrong.

Again - Brexit
they were wrong there

The women are out voting in vast numbers so far.

Meathrosie · 04/11/2024 10:22

It Trump said that he'd be accused of inciting violence & hate!

Clearinguptheclutter · 04/11/2024 10:39

If you’re into political podcasts last night’s Newsagents is very informative and optimistic, explaining the last minute Kamala surge (previously they have not been very hopeful!)

EveryBiteinBangkok · 04/11/2024 12:43

From all the latest reports it seems to be completely on a knife edge - with it being impossible to call in favour of either. This worries me just in the sense that if Trump loses and it is close he will again claim it is rigged etc..

I think we often only hear the loudest voices in the room - from both sides and there is a huge silent majority who we have no idea how they will vote. You may find a lot of women in republican areas with republican husbands or partners who just wouldn't tell people they are voting Kamala Harris.

You will also get a lot of embarrassed trump voters who would not tell people either.

It's so incredibly close. Each article says one slightly over the other but most say it's impossible to say. It could go either way

I agree with this, I can't see how anyone can confidently say Trump or Kamala right now.

Allan Lichtman has been confidently predicting a win for Kamala Harris for weeks now .

DrizzleMySwizzle · 04/11/2024 13:09

People are using the phrase Roevember.

And I can’t help but think many Republican men will be thinking ‘women are still upset about Roe? But that was months ago!’.

I am really hoping there will be a lot of Republicans quietly voting for Harris. It really would be the best thing for the party to plan to come back in a few years time with a strong (not Trump) candidate. Harris will not be a popular president and they can spend some time re-grouping for the next election. Otherwise Trump will decimate the Republican party.

I am immensely heartened by Selzer's Iowa poll. It's only another few days. I truly believe, but worry I am just delerious, that Kamala will win with a massive blue wave - hoping for a tsunami.

Agreed. I was surprised by her previous poll which had Trump 4 pts up in a state he won by 10. But thought it was just a blip. Now this one showing Harris ahead.

Apparent farmers blame Trump for the tariff wars with China et al hurting their sales. Then Roe v Wade. So to quote a US political journalist whose name eludes me I am now ' nauseously optimistic '

Papyrophile · 04/11/2024 20:31

I was very surprised to spot a Harris/Walz campaign placard on the side of the road in SE Cornwall. I presume they are nailing their colours to the mast, but the last time I looked, our consitituency was outside the USA.

Chypre · 04/11/2024 20:34

My heart is with Harris but my gut is fearing the worst. Trump.

Maybe it was a souvenir from one of those Labour activists who went over to try to help the cause!

Imatorturedpoet · 04/11/2024 20:38

I hope Harris gets in, but I fear Trump will be elected. I can't understand why people can't see him for what he is.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/11/2024 20:54

I’m very much afraid that it’ll be Trump. And even if he loses, he’ll claim once again that the election was ‘stolen’ by those dastardly Democrats.

Papyrophile · 04/11/2024 21:04

I think the mood is shifting to Harris but I don't think she will be a good president.
