Who will win US Election - Gut feelings

EveryBiteinBangkok · 24/10/2024 13:00

I have been half following online and media coverage of the US Election. It is getting close now. What is your gut feeling on who is going to win?

About a month ago, I felt fairly confident that Kamala Harris would win (who I want to win). Now though I am not sure and the amount of rumour and almost conspiracy around it online seems to be reaching fever pitch.

If you had to place a bet (grand national style) who would you go for?

Michelle Obama thinks constituents are only black and forgets about the other 7/8 of America. As racist as they come, just like her husband.

Perhaps she speaks out for fellow blacks as no one has supported them before and finally they had a voice

Ah ok that tells me all I need to know about the level of your political acumen.

Oh, I didn't realise that was meant as a complement.

I feel sorry for people with no moral discernment, so there's that.

There is nothing decent about Trump as a human.

I neither mean to complement or insult you - why would I, I have no idea who you are.

I don’t think Trump is a decent human being by any stretch of the imagination, but you must realise the reason why it is such a close race is that he somehow resonates with millions of Americans and that must be down to his policies rather than his personality I guess. I just think the mindless thought that Trump = bad so opposition = ‘good and decent’ is an interesting point of view and as this is a chat forum it’s not ‘banging on’ to challenge that. Don’t take it so personally, other people think the same thing as you, I just happened to quote your post 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's less his policies and more his personality cult. There was an article recently where voters were presented with Harris's and Trump's policies but without saying whose they were. Harris's tended to be more popular across both democrat and republican voters.

He's popular because he's a populist who's riding the wave of a massive, ongoing effort to push the Overton window to the right. His publicists have done a remarkable job of portraying someone who was born with a silver ladle in his mouth and a string of failed businesses as some kind of business genius who's also for the working man.

His rise, and the factors that led to it, is also having the happy coincidence of destabilising the West. It is without question that Russia is behind a lot of this, from funding US right-wing podcasters to having farms of human workers and bots spreading misinformation across the Internet. Same as they're behind a lot of the more rabid anti-immigration rhetoric which fuelled Brexit over here.

I’ve made about 3 posts on this thread, hardly banging on 😂 I have never called you an idiot, please don’t project your insecurities on a random poster on the internet. That way madness lies. This thread is full of interesting speculation and opinions, there is no need to take people disagreeing with you or taking up a point you have made as a personal affront.

We all want the leader of the free world not be a dangerous person, but I don’t think it helps engaging in magical thinking where the opposition are therefore good and decent people. Anyway not too long before we all find out the fate of the world.

You have repeatedly quoted me, patronised me, called me "really childish and naive" in my views, posted from a position of superiority that I lack your "level" of "political acumen", and seem to think you are educating me about the nature of good and evil, or the lack thereof.

Please go and argue with someone else.

The ONLY reason Biden won the election was because it was a vote between two "evils" in the last election. Trump's knows business, is not afraid of anyone (which Democrats, all politicians (the Swamp) hate; he isn't going to go about giving away taxpayers money with no strings attached as Biden/Harris have done, causing inflation in everything here. Trump has a good feel for people, sizes them up well; he loves his country above his own ambitions and it shows; he also isn't going to run again if he winds this one therefore so he will get things done and not be worrying about pleasing political parties an won't be running for re-election in '28. He also has FOUR years experience as a president and Harris does not. Harris failed miserably as a Vice President. What people do not like about Trump was he pontificates ad nauseam, drives everyone up a wall; but at least Trump will take a stand, is able to change course if needed in a heartbeat and apologize and say "I was wrong". He also doesn't flip all over the place trying to please everyone like Harris does. Harris could not lead herself out of a paper bag and she won't stand firm on anything but abortion, and she is wrong when she even speaks about abortion. Nearly every state in the union allows abortion and a woman can get abortion in the states now just as easily as she could before Roe vs Wade was overturned; the difference now is that EACH state sets their own boundaries on how many weeks one can go in a pregnancy - which is totally ok and justified. The longer one waits in an abortion, the more dangerous it is to the mother. Harris keeps beating a dead horse on abortion and thank GOD most women are not stupid. The vote will be close, we are all praying for the best, whatever comes of it.

I won't even bother replying to most of the absolute nonsensical garbage in this post, but can you please give me one example of this?

but at least Trump will take a stand, is able to change course if needed in a heartbeat and apologize and say "I was wrong".

Thank you!

The irony is you are quite Trump-esq in your thin-skinned and dogmatic responses. But I will leave things there as you request and not engage any further as don’t want to derail the thread :)

Still being professionally rude, high-handed, and superior. And taking potshots as you go... Who knew the sophisticated political analysts of MN were so defensive about Trump (as a rapist, felon, and insurrectionist, objectively a bad person) being called a bad person, even as they claim not to support Trump.

Talkinpeace · 27/10/2024 16:23

Why do people think Trump is good at business ?
He's been bankrupted so many times that in the UK he'd not be eligible to stand as an MP.

MightSoundCrassButItsFactual · 27/10/2024 16:25

I made you already a prediction: Trump will win and Kamala just a little bit behind

User37482 · 27/10/2024 16:25

Trump

AndBreatheeeee · 27/10/2024 16:27

Jesus Christ let's hope it's Kamala 💙💙💙💙 C'mon America, we are all depending on you!

Onyxvontrollenberg · 24/10/2024 13:15

We and the planet are absolutely fucked if Trump wins. Let’s be honest.
Absolutely mind boggling that a liberal western democracy can go down this path. Ukraine will be screwed, Putin likely more confident. Other countries involved.

Trump.

He appeals greatly to the baser instincts of people.

Bit like Brexit.

Dark days. Even steadfast Republicans are flagging his blatantly fascist leanings.

He's a terrible businessman
He's a rapist
He's sexist
He's fucking mad
As it, it would appear are many Americans

the80sweregreat · 27/10/2024 16:57

I'm don't live in the US , but I remember saying to people a few years ago that Donald Trump will return and become President again.
Not sure if he will or not now, but I think it'll be close and he may well win.
Be interesting to see if I was right, but whatever happens will be history in the making

He tends not to get involved in wars which is a good thing.
jaw jaw not war war is the preferred option.
I wonder if putin would have invaded Ukraine if lame duck Joe had not been in charge.

Isn't that a bit contradictory? Trump is an isolationist and Putin is a man he admires. And probably wants to emulate.

I'd be surprised if it does much at this stage. Initially when Harris had a high with the polls but now it seems to have swung back a bit

'Queen Bea'

🤮🤮🤮

Abhannmor · 27/10/2024 18:19

I hope you'll forgive me if I inject a note of levity into this otherwise heady discussion. People sometimes refer to Trump as ' the Orange shitgibbon ' or just as ' orange man'.

But in his most recent appearances he looks a different shade to me. I can't quite pin it down but I think it most resembles ' Burnt Siena' from my childhood water colour paint box. What do people think?

HowardTJMoon · 27/10/2024 19:42

Some of his more recent pics look like he's been fired face-first into the back end of a diarrhetic cow. Bizarre colour.
