Who will win US Election - Gut feelings

EveryBiteinBangkok · 24/10/2024 13:00

I have been half following online and media coverage of the US Election. It is getting close now. What is your gut feeling on who is going to win?

About a month ago, I felt fairly confident that Kamala Harris would win (who I want to win). Now though I am not sure and the amount of rumour and almost conspiracy around it online seems to be reaching fever pitch.

If you had to place a bet (grand national style) who would you go for?

My son lives out there, and reckons Trump will win - simply because Harris is so hopeless. 🤷‍♀️

So Trump is actually better in his opinion ? Does he go along with what Trump wants to do ?

I have a sinking feeling it will be Trump - but my hope is that many young people are signing up to vote, and this may sway things to the side of good and decency.

Neither candidate is particularly on the side of good and decency though. It's a really childish and naive way to look at the world as good vs evil. Maybe Harris is the lesser of two evils, but that does not make her the good guy by any means.

Trump, I’m afraid.
XH and his DP have already voted, so that’s two for Harris in Pennsylvania at least.

Trump, unfortunately. And Putin will be in Kiev within a month.

Unfortunately I think you’d be right. Trump couldn’t care less about Ukraine.

VeryQuaintIrene · 26/10/2024 17:34

It's quite extraordinary how many people are bitching about Harris' imperfections (there is no perfect candidate, never has been and never will be) while giving Trump an apparent pass, even though his record speaks for itself and many of the people who have actually worked with him and know him think he is unfit for another term. There is no way that the two deserve equal consideration. I guess this is how the US has got into this state but damn, it's depressing.

LilasPrettyCafe · 26/10/2024 17:37

Harris will win. I think the less extreme republicans will secretly vote for her, because politics is a team sport but most people can see how unstable Trump is.

Talkinpeace · 26/10/2024 18:02

Harris will win the popular vote.
But the Electoral College is a totally different matter.

Harris will adhere to the constitution.
Trump will not.

Harris will have a strong team of experts around her.
Trump wants to put RFK Jr in charge of the FDA

Oh, I don't know. Harris isn't responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths c/- idiots/innocents following Trumps lead and downplaying Covid.

Harris isn't a convicted felon, or a rapist.

Harris didn't incite insurrection.

I could go on.

Rather childish and naive to pretend these facts don't exist.

shittestusernameever · 26/10/2024 22:55

Trump

Rosybud88 · 26/10/2024 22:57

Trump but I don’t think either of them are good options sadly.

"Less than a fortnight before polling day, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are locked in a nail-bitingly close US presidential election race, triggering pessimism among Democrats and confidence among Republicans – even though polls suggest both candidates have a near equal chance of entering the White House."

Democrats panicking for no reason, pollsters say – US race nail-bitingly close | US elections 2024 | The Guardian

That's interesting.

And who owns The Washington Post?

Jeff Bezos.

Do not believe the oligarch-owned newspapers and the polls.
They are lying to try and frighten voters into giving up and voting for Trump.

Too close to call. If Harris was male she'd easily win.

She isn't going to lose because she is female. She will lose because she is progressive; from California; has no clue about foreign affairs or economy; is a dingbat; and a puppet like Biden. She didn't even win the presidential primary and dropped out in the last election. The legacy of the Biden administration giving away money will also keep her from winning.

If only Michelle Obama had stood….

Michelle Obama thinks constituents are only black and forgets about the other 7/8 of America. As racist as they come, just like her husband.

A glimmer of hope. The (traditionally Republican, I think?) Washington post not endorsing Trump.

Newspapers hate Trump, including WP. And no, WP is not traditionally Republican.

US newspapers are typically either described as liberal or conservative, which describes a political/policy trend to their stories.

Republican is a political party as is Democrat Party. Calling oneself a Republican does not automatically assign you as a "conservative" nor does calling oneself Democratic assign them as liberals. Both parties have left leaning, right leaning, and middle of the road. Wish the Democrats were more middle of the road, and the Progressive Democrats are the worst of all Democrats. There are no Progressive Republicans.

You’ve misunderstood, I am not by any means a Trump
fan. The Biden administration whom Harris is a part of are still arming foreign countries, the US itself is a mess with violent crime and drug abuse soaring, the border is out of control. Women’s rights have been trampled over with the proposed amendment of Title IX. Harris is a full proponent of the gender cult which seeks to harm vulnerable children and young people.

Just because Trump is worse it doesn’t mean that Harris represents good and decency, I do not believe any politician anywhere is the world currently represents that. The human race has lost its way.

The ONLY reason Biden won the election was because it was a vote between two "evils" in the last election. Trump's knows business, is not afraid of anyone (which Democrats, all politicians (the Swamp) hate; he isn't going to go about giving away taxpayers money with no strings attached as Biden/Harris have done, causing inflation in everything here. Trump has a good feel for people, sizes them up well; he loves his country above his own ambitions and it shows; he also isn't going to run again if he winds this one therefore so he will get things done and not be worrying about pleasing political parties an won't be running for re-election in '28. He also has FOUR years experience as a president and Harris does not. Harris failed miserably as a Vice President. What people do not like about Trump was he pontificates ad nauseam, drives everyone up a wall; but at least Trump will take a stand, is able to change course if needed in a heartbeat and apologize and say "I was wrong". He also doesn't flip all over the place trying to please everyone like Harris does. Harris could not lead herself out of a paper bag and she won't stand firm on anything but abortion, and she is wrong when she even speaks about abortion. Nearly every state in the union allows abortion and a woman can get abortion in the states now just as easily as she could before Roe vs Wade was overturned; the difference now is that EACH state sets their own boundaries on how many weeks one can go in a pregnancy - which is totally ok and justified. The longer one waits in an abortion, the more dangerous it is to the mother. Harris keeps beating a dead horse on abortion and thank GOD most women are not stupid. The vote will be close, we are all praying for the best, whatever comes of it.

I am happy to believe that Harris and Walz do stand for basic human values of decency. Don't care if it makes me naive and childish, in your eyes.

Trump was good as the petulant boss on The Apprentice and Celebrity Apprentice. He seems to have devolved dramatically since then and is unfit for office, and not in my view a decent human being or someone who gives a shit about anyone else.

I really don't care about the minutae of their policies - I just want the POTUS to be someone not completely insane, narcissistic, petulant, and dangerous.

Ah ok that tells me all I need to know about the level of your political acumen. I don't think either of the choices on offer will be great for the world, but it must be nice and comforting to be able to see the world in good vs evil dichotomies.

Michelle Obama thinks constituents are only black and forgets about the other 7/8 of America. As racist as they come, just like her husband.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Obama's wins broke the brains of a big chunk of the US electorate. There was a level of hate, disgust and outrage that came out against him that was unique. It emboldened and empowered the more radical end of the GOP which led to the Tea Party which in turn led to Trump.

I've no idea what it was about Obama that resulted in a bunch of right-wing, Confederate flag-waving Americans to hold such special animosity. No idea at all what made him stand out so much and become such a target. Must have been the tan suit.

There really is no need to be so snotty about it.

Trump is clearly a clinical narcissist - whether or not he is a malignant narcissist or a sociopath is up for debate. Narcissists are not good people.

You want to keep banging on about this, that, and the other, and finding new ways to tell me I'm an idiot. I just want the leader of the free world to not be a dangerous person. HTH

I’ve made about 3 posts on this thread, hardly banging on 😂 I have never called you an idiot, please don’t project your insecurities on a random poster on the internet. That way madness lies. This thread is full of interesting speculation and opinions, there is no need to take people disagreeing with you or taking up a point you have made as a personal affront.

We all want the leader of the free world not be a dangerous person, but I don’t think it helps engaging in magical thinking where the opposition are therefore good and decent people. Anyway not too long before we all find out the fate of the world.
