Feels properly autumnal here so have fired up the slow cooker and a nice bit of beef is having a leisurely red wine bath. Yorkshire puddings and roasties with a load of veg for dinner early evening is the plan and I'm going to treat myself to a nice bottle of red to sip a glass of whilst prepping and doing the Sunday papers crossword.
Anyone else feeling the need for comfort food or are some of you clinging onto summer by your fingertips 😂

After our swim we will have subway sandwiches!
Tonight we are having corned beef hash (by special request) with fresh baked bread from Lidl.
Cherry crumble and custard for dessert.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 13/10/2024 10:29

I haven't had corned beef hash in years
Elite level comfort food 😂

Slow cooker beef stew here with red wine sauce, yorkies and all the trimmings

MiniCooperLover · 13/10/2024 10:32

Bacon and eggs for breakfast. That'll keep me happy until dinner tonight which will be either Roast Pork or Roast Chicken with roasties and veg.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 13/10/2024 10:32

Cherry crumble sounds delicious!

We're having beef casserole made with some local ale, dumplings, mash and tenderstem broccoli, DS has requested home made rice pudding which isn't one of my favourites but he really loves it

Hobnobswantshernameback · 13/10/2024 10:37

I'm now craving a beef stew.
That needs to go on my weekly meal plan in the next couple of weeks.

Having several girls over for the afternoon so dinner will be pizzas, garlic bread, potato salad, coleslaw, salad and dips. Ice cream to follow.

We've just had our usual breakfast (porridge) and lunch will be something on toast. Maybe scrambled eggs.

CharlotteCollinsneeLucas · 13/10/2024 10:38

Another beef stew and dumplings here!

dontforgetme · 13/10/2024 10:40

Roast chicken dinner but with homemade chunky chips instead of roasties. I'm currently eating left over dominos though Blush

Tulipvase · 13/10/2024 10:43

Roast pork

SlothOnARope · 13/10/2024 11:09

Nothing, I am on kitchen strike 🙂

LadyGrey33 · 13/10/2024 11:10

Beef stew here too 🤤

GettingStuffed · 13/10/2024 11:19

Not sure about lunch but dinner is going to be beef stew.

AsTim3GoesBy · 13/10/2024 11:23

We're probably going to have butter beans and aubergine in a tomatoey sauce, with some pak choi on the side.

Or maybe harissa aubergine and chickpeas. I haven't decided yet.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 13/10/2024 11:25

Kofte with a spicy tomato sauce, tabbouleh and pittas, then Rhubarb and apple crumble with custard.

I had the most amazing beef spezzatino (an Italian stew that before yesterday I had never heard of) at a restaurant yesterday with a mountain of mash and it was the most perfect autumn food.

Enough4me · 13/10/2024 11:25

I'm running my freezer down for a sort out and food delivery is late today. So I have nothing exciting in. I'll cook pasta add frozen veg, pasata, dried herbs, and finish in the oven with more cheese for a baked pasta finish. Pudding will be yoghurt.

It will be nice, but I'm envious of these slow cooked beef stews in red wine!

That sounds lovely!

Venison shank in the slow cooker with red wine. Can’t decide between mash and polenta to go with it.

cheapskatemum · 13/10/2024 11:34

We're travelling home from Cornwall & DS is at home cooking roast lamb for dinner this evening. I haven't asked what vegetables he's doing with it, or how he's preparing the potatoes, because I like the element of surprise. Breakfast/brunch was the leftover contents of the fridge in a sandwich: steak, cream cheese & tomato.

Sheknowsaboutme · 13/10/2024 11:57

Roast dinner. Every Sunday.

in front of a fire with a glass of wine

Wiglio · 13/10/2024 12:16

@Hobnobswantshernameback your day sounds lovely. Had poached eggs on toast for breakfast and am making a quiche.

Cattery · 13/10/2024 12:29

Just dusted off the slow cooker and making a sausage casserole with mushroom, butter beans, onions, carrots. Bit of Worcester sauce, tomato purée, oxo cubes, garlic. Made it up really

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 13/10/2024 12:35

We're going to the pub for lunch and I'm having a roast with extra cauliflower cheese. I'm very excited about this.

DH is also having the roast, and DC, who doesn't subscribe to winter, wants pizza and ice cream.

As we're having a big lunch, tonight we'll probably have warm chicken salad.
